Landfill site selection is a complicated multi criteria land use planning that should convince all related stakeholders with different insights. This paper addresses an integrating approach for landfill siting based on conflicting opinions among environmental, economical and socio-cultural expertise. In order to gain optimized siting decision, the issue was investigated in different viewpoints. At first step based on opinion sampling and questionnaire results of 35 experts familiar with local situations, the national environmental legislations and international practices, 13 constraints and 15 factors were built in hierarchical structure. Factors divided into three environmental, economical and socio-cultural groups. In the next step, the GIS-database was developed based on the designated criteria. In the third stage, the criteria standardization and criteria weighting were accomplished. The relative importance weights of criteria and subcriteria were estimated, respectively, using analytical hierarchy process and rank ordering methods based on different experts opinions. Thereafter, by using simple additive weighting method, the suitability maps for landfill siting in Marvdasht, Iran, was evaluated in environmental, economical and socio-cultural visions. The importance of each group of criteria in its own vision was assigned to be higher than two other groups. In the fourth stage, the final suitability map was obtained after crossing three resulted maps in different visions and reported in five suitability classes for landfill construction. This map indicated that almost 1224 ha of the study area can be considered as best suitable class for landfill siting considering all visions. In the last stage, a comprehensive field visit was performed to verify the selected site obtained from the proposed model. This field inspection has confirmed the proposed integrating approach for the landfill siting.  相似文献

This study reports the probability of increased mortality of people within the political border of Bangladesh due to the emission of fine particulate matter with diameters of 2.5 microns or less (PM2.5) from the Matarbari coal power plant (MCPP). A Gaussian plume dispersion model has been used for this estimation. The PM2.5 emission rate data are unavailable as the construction of MCPP is still in its initial stage; therefore, the anticipated PM2.5 emission rate has been estimated based on data from a number of coal‐fired power plants in India and China. To make this study more meaningful, two different emission rates have been considered representing the best‐case and worst‐case scenarios. In both cases, the intake fraction has been found to be 0.12×10?2, and the value of relative risk varies between 1.134 and 1.374, respectively. Finally, it is estimated that approximately 11.5 million people inside Bangladesh will be exposed to the PM2.5 emission from MCPP, and between 7,667 and 17,675 people will experience premature death every year.  相似文献

The analyses presented in this paper include the concentration levels of NO2 and O3 measured during 2 successive years in twin cities (Rawalpindi and Islamabad) of Pakistan from November 2009 to March 2011. NO2 was determined using the passive sampling method, while ozone was determined by Model 400E ozone analyzer. The average NO2 and O3 concentration in twin cities of Pakistan was found to be 44?±?6 and 18.2?±?1.24 ppb, respectively. Results indicate that the concentration of NO2 and O3 show seasonal variations. Results also depict that NO2 and O3 concentration levels are high in areas of intense traffic flow and congestion. Rawalpindi has more elevated levels of NO2 and O3 as compared to the Islamabad due to the narrow roads, enclosing architecture of road network and congestion. Climatic variables also influenced the NO2 and O3 concentration, i.e., temperature is positively related with O3, while negatively related with NO2, relative humidity is directly related with NO2 and inversely related with O3, whereas rainfall show negative association with both NO2 and O3 concentration. Comparing the results with WHO standards reveals that NO2 concentration levels at all the sampling points are above the permissible limit, while ozone concentration is still lower than the WHO standards. Thus, there is a need to take appropriate steps to control these continuously increasing levels of NO2 and O3 before they become a serious hazard for the environment and people living in those areas.  相似文献

Converting a congested high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane into a high-occupancy toll (HOT) lane is a viable option for improving travel time reliability for carpools and buses that use the managed lane. However, the emission impacts of HOV-to-HOT conversions are not well understood. The lack of emission impact quantification for HOT conversions creates a policy challenge for agencies making transportation funding choices. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the case study of before-and-after changes in vehicle emissions for the Atlanta, Georgia, I-85 HOV/HOT lane conversion project, implemented in October 2011. The analyses employed the Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) for project-level analysis with monitored changes in vehicle activity data collected by Georgia Tech researchers for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). During the quarterly field data collection from 2010 to 2012, more than 1.5 million license plates were observed and matched to vehicle class and age information using the vehicle registration database. The study also utilized the 20-sec, lane-specific traffic operations data from the Georgia NaviGAtor intelligent transportation system, as well as a direct feed of HOT lane usage data from the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) managed lane system. As such, the analyses in this paper simultaneously assessed the impacts associated with changes in traffic volumes, on-road operating conditions, and fleet composition before and after the conversion. Both greenhouse gases and criteria pollutants were examined.

Implications: A straight before-after analysis showed about 5% decrease in air pollutants and carbon dioxide (CO2). However, when the before-after calendar year of analysis was held constant (to account for the effect of 1 yr of fleet turnover), mass emissions at the analysis site during peak hours increased by as much as 17%, with little change in CO2. Further investigation revealed that a large percentage decrease in criteria pollutants in the straight before-after analysis was associated with a single calendar year change in MOVES. Hence, the Atlanta, Georgia, results suggest that an HOV-to-HOT conversion project may have increased mass emissions on the corridor. The results also showcase the importance of obtaining on-road data for emission impact assessment of HOV-to-HOT conversion projects.  相似文献

To develop an environmentally degradable polymer material, a masterbatch pro-oxidant system was blended into low-density polyethylene. The polymer film samples were prepared by compression molding. The prepared films were placed under the natural environment of Tehran for weathering studies and accelerated conditions were also performed for UV aging in UV chamber. At different time intervals, the changes in chemical structure of photosensitized polyethylene samples were studied by FTIR and compared to that of the control polyethylene films. Also the mechanical properties of photosensitized polyethylene films were determined in comparison with the control films by measuring the tensile strength and elongation at break after exposure to the natural environment and UV radiation. Results showed that the overall rate of degradation process is clearly dependent on the polyethylene composition, test conditions (natural or accelerated), season of the year, and the duration of the weathering of the samples.  相似文献

This paper describes an ecofriendly development of a nanodrug delivery vehicle from seed oil. The entire synthesis, starting from the ZnO nanoparticle to the polymeric vehicle is purely microwave assisted with minimal usage of organic solvents. Multifunctional features like enhanced UV absorbance, antimicrobial properties and appreciable in vitro release can be attributed to the nanoparticle loaded polymeric vehicle. Characterization of the synthesized species was done through FT-IR, 1HNMR, SEM and XRD. The physical characterizations were carried out using conventional laboratory techniques.  相似文献

Previous studies on the intertidal copepod Tigriopus japonicus have demonstrated that it is a suitable model species for the assessment of acute toxicities of marine pollutants. In order to standardize T. japonicus for use in environmental risk assessment involving whole life cycle exposure, we tested nine pollutants for their effects on growth and reproduction during a two-generation life cycle exposure test. Nauplii (F 0) were exposed to a range of concentrations of each chemical in a static renewal culture system. Broods of the second generation (F1) were subsequently exposed to the same concentrations for one full life cycle. Of the seven traits (nauplius phase, development time, survival, sex ratio, number of clutch, nauplii per clutch and fecundity), only the length of the nauplius phase and development time showed a greater sensitivity to chemical exposure. Between the two sensitive traits, the period of the nauplius phase was more sensitive than cohort generation time. Biocides significantly increased the maturation period of nauplii as well as copepodids in F 0 generation. In this study, it was demonstrated that T. japonicus could also be used in reproduction and life cycle tests and it provides an opportunity for testing the chronic and subchronic toxic effects of marine pollutants. Further validation and harmonization in a multi-centric study involving other laboratories of the region will strengthen its use as a supplement to existing model species.  相似文献
