Some kinds of amine groups can be introduced to the glassy carbon surface by the electrode oxidation of the carbon electrode surface in ammonium carbamate solution, and this amine groups modified electrode is named as an aminated glassy carbon electrode. The existences of not only primary amine but also secondary and tertially amines were confirmed by X ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The applications of the aminated carbon material for the electrocatalytic reductions of oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, and organic compounds such as quinones were carried out, and the effects of amination on the formation of electrocatalytic sites for many species were revealed. The electrocatalyzed cyclic voltammograms of metal ions and metal chelate compounds obtained by aminated glassy carbon electrodes are also discussed. Moreover, we intend to describe that the aminated carbon electrode can exhibit the large reduction waves of inorganic oxoacids such as N02? or bromide ion. The introduced functional groups containing nitrogen atom can change the distribution of the electron densities of the graphite carbon surface, and this specific electron distribution environment may generate the various electrocatalytic activities.  相似文献

This study focuses on the use of science sources as experts in news stories about climate change coverage in the Great Lakes region of the US and Canada. We examine, using the hierarchy of influences model, whether the use of scientific sources in climate change coverage may be related to factors such as geographic location, reporting frequency, and authorship, in the prestige press as well as regional and local media. The study found that as many or more non-scientists than scientists are selected as sources regardless of geographic location, reporting frequency, or authorship. However, the study also found that the more stories reporters produce on this topic, the more likely their stories are to use and give prominence to science sources. In addition, the articles included few denier sources, but denier views are more likely to appear in a more prominent location in the articles than supporters when stories are framed as conflict over global warming. These results highlight the need for additional research examining the expertise of climate scientists in news stories to better understand news decision-making in the context of complex scientific reporting.  相似文献

Measurements of the local distribution of atmospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO(2)) by long-path pulsed differential optical absorption spectroscopy (LP-PDOAS) in Tokyo during August 2008 are presented. Two LP-PDOAS systems simultaneously measured average NO(2) temporal mixing ratios along two different paths from a single observation point. Two flashing aviation obstruction lights, located 7.0 km north and 6.3 km east from the observation point, were used as light sources, allowing spatiotemporal variations of NO(2) in Tokyo to be inferred. The LP-PDOAS data were compared with ground-based data measured using chemiluminescence. Surface wind data indicated that large inhomogeneities were present in the spatial NO(2) distributions under southerly wind conditions, while northerly wind conditions displayed greater homogeneity between the two systems. The higher correlation in the NO(2) mixing ratio between the two LP-PDOAS systems was observed under northerly wind conditions with a correlation factor R(2) = 0.88. We demonstrated that the combined deployment of two LP-PDOAS systems oriented in different directions provides detailed information on the spatial distribution of NO(2).  相似文献

Airborne particulate matter (APM) is a major air pollutant, and the effect on human health of fine APM (PM2.5) deposited deep inside the lungs has recently become a serious concern. Moreover, soluble constituents may leach from APM, and intensify some health disorders. To identify the soluble chemical constituents of APM, size-classified APM was sampled in central Tokyo, and the elemental compositions of the water-soluble, acid-soluble and insoluble fractions were investigated. The extraction procedure was validated by calculating the mass balance of soluble and insoluble fractions of a standard APM reference material (NIST SRM 1648). Among the major elements, Fe and Ti in APM of all size classes and K in coarse APM were distributed primarily in the insoluble fraction and were inferred to be present as oxides or silicates, whereas Na and Mg in all size classes and K in fine APM were primarily in the water-soluble fraction and were inferred to be have originated mainly from sea salt. Among the trace elements, Zn and Cd in the fine APM (d < 2 microm) had large enrichment factors, indicating an anthropogenic origin, and were distributed primarily in the water-soluble fraction. When fine anthropogenic APM enters into the lungs, leached toxic elements, such as Cd, may adversely affect health. The higher the bonding energy of the monoxide molecule of the element was, the higher its distribution ratio was in the water-soluble fraction. Therefore, many metallic elements in APM were inferred to be present as oxygen-bonded compounds.  相似文献

Of the two resting life-forms of the planktonic diatom Chaetoceros pseudocurvisetus Mangin formed during periods of nitrate depletion, resting spores survived at least 1 month after spore formation at 24 °C, while resting cells survived only for about 10 d at the same temperature. Under nitrogen limitation, resting cells exhibited higher specific death rates than resting spores at temperatures ranging from 5 to 30 °C. After nitrogen replenishment, resting spores required a certain lag period of about 1 d to initiate vegetative growth at levels of nitrate supply from 0.5 to 20 M, while resting cells initiated vegetative growth almost immediately. Resting spores exhibited an intracellular accumulation of the supplied nitrate during germination and initial vegetative growth. The resting cells, however, exhibited more active vegetative growth, closely coupled with the uptake of the supplied nitrate. The resting spores and resting cells appear to play different roles in the maintenance of populations under nutrient fluctuations depending on the interval length between nutrient fluxes in natural waters. A dynamic compartment model was investigated to describe 14C accumulation in rice plants exposed to atmospheric 14C with temporally changing concentrations. In the model, rice plants were regarded to consist of three compartments: the ear and the mobile and immobile carbon pools of the shoot. Photosynthetically fixed carbon moves into the ear and the mobile carbon pool, and these two compartments release a part of this carbon into the atmosphere by respiration. Carbon accumulated in the mobile carbon pool is redistributed to the ear, while carbon transferred into the immobile carbon pool from the mobile one is accumulated there until harvest. The model was examined by cultivation experiments using the stable isotope, 13C, in which the ratios of carbon photosynthetically fixed at nine times during plant growth to the total carbon at the time of harvest were determined. The model estimates of the ratios were in relatively good agreement with the experimental observations, which implies that the newly developed compartment model is applicable to estimate properly the radiation dose to the neighboring population due to an accidental release of 14C from nuclear facilities.  相似文献

This paper describes the possible inundation scenarios under sea level rise conditions due to global climate change with particular reference to Nagoya, Japan. The study was carried out by using a two-dimensional sea model integrated with one-dimensional river flow model and two-dimensional overland flow model. For the connections of models, the upstream discharge or downstream water level in each grid is considered as the boundary conditions. The governing equations used for the analysis have been solved by finite volume method. The analysis results implicate that some parts of densely populated coastal area of Nagoya city will be vulnerable to inundation if the sea level rise due to global warming by 1 m. Moreover, the performances of existing sewer system and inundation scenario under various conditions have been analyzed.  相似文献

The present study was carried out to understand the current contamination status of organochlorine compounds (OCs) in human breast milk from three metropolitan cities in India (New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata). Among the OCs analyzed, DDTs were predominant followed by HCHs and PCBs. CHLs and HCB levels were much lower. Contamination patterns were different in human milk found in our previous study in Chennai, a metropolitan city in southern India, indicating region specific exposure routes and variable sources. In comparison with previous data, levels of DDTs and HCHs generally declined with time, implying the effect of various bans and restrictions on their usage. No association between concentrations of OCs and demographic characteristics such as parity and age of mothers was observed which might be due to narrow range of mother's age. Estimated daily intake shows that some infants are exposed to OCs to a greater extent, particularly HCHs than the guideline standard.  相似文献

In order to increase knowledge of aerosol dry deposition for the regional assessment of acid deposition and transboundary air pollution in East Asia, an experimental study on PM2.5 sulfate deposition was implemented in the early summer of 2009. The experimental field was located in a deciduous forest at the foot of Mt. Asama, central Japan. Aerosol fluxes were obtained using the aerodynamic gradient method. Three aerosol samplers were placed on an experimental tower at 21, 24 and 27 m above the ground surface, and collected PM2.5 on filters for chemical analysis. Vertical concentration differences between 21 m and 27 m of PM2.5 sulfate were detected significantly when the concentration exceeded 1 μg m?3. Mean deposition velocity was estimated to be 0.9 ± 1.0 cm s?1 in the daytime and 0.3 ± 0.3 cm s?1 in the nighttime. In the case that a height-dependent correction in the roughness sub-layer was taken into account, the deposition velocities increased more, especially in daytime. Higher deposition velocities in the daytime were associated with larger friction velocities and unstable conditions. The deposition velocities observed in this study were in agreement with other experimental results found in the literature. On the other hand, they were higher than those calculated by theoretical models. Two empirical parameterizations (Wesely, M.L., Cook, D.R., Hart, R.L., 1985. The general trend of higher daytime and lower nighttime deposition velocities was similar among the observation and the two parameterizations. The large variability found in the measurement was not reproduced by the parameterizations, because it is attributable to random error from the differences between the samplers. The observations were in accordance with the parameterization of Ruijgrok et al. (1997) for a forest, although much larger than that of Wesely et al. (1985) for grasslands. This indicates the large difference in aerosol deposition velocities between forests and grasslands.  相似文献
