Catalytic reduction of sulfur dioxide with carbon monoxide over tin dioxide for direct sulfur recovery process 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
SO(2) reduction by CO over SnO(2) catalyst was studied in this work. The parameters were the reaction temperature, space velocity (GHSV) and [CO]/[SO(2)] molar ratio. The optimal temperature, GHSV and [CO]/[SO(2)] molar ratio were 550 degrees C, 8000 h(-1) and 2.0, respectively. Under these conditions, the SO(2) conversion and sulfur selectivity were about 78% and 68%, respectively. The following reaction pathway involving two mechanisms was proposed in SO(2) reduction by CO over SnO(2) catalyst: in the first step involving Redox mechanism, the elemental sulfur was produced by the mobility of the lattice oxygen between SO(2) and SnO(2) surface. In the second step, COS was formed by the side reaction between elemental sulfur and CO or metal sulfide and CO. In the third step involving COS intermediate mechanism, the abundant elemental sulfur was produced by the SO(2) reduction by COS which was produced in the second step and was more effective reducing agent than CO. 相似文献

None of bioassays is complete for assessing biological impact in humans upon the xenobiotic exposure due to species and organ-specific responsiveness. Thus, it is speculated that the human cell-based bioassay may be more appropriate system because of its direct relevance to humans. Here, we have developed a human epidermal cell-based bioassay for the dioxins and related compounds. The AD12-SV40-immortalized human keratinocyte cell line was stably transfected with a recombinant expression vector which contains the luciferase gene under dioxin-inducible control of four DREs. The tansfectants showed a consistent dose-response of luciferase activity upon dioxin exposure even after 120 passages. The maximal half effective dose (EC50) was 200 pM with a maximum of 32-fold induction of luciferase activity at 5 nM. The minimum detection limit was 10 pM. Optimal exposure time for the assay was 24h. When cells were treated with aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonists of different toxic equivalent factor (TEF) values, the shape of the dose-response curve for each compound was parallel to that of TCDD and the maximum response was similar, indicating that this bioassay system can be applied to generate the total toxic equivalency (TEQ) estimate from the samples. When relative induction potency of luciferase activities for each compound was calculated, it was similar to WHO-TEF values within an order of magnitude. This human cell system can be used as an efficient screening tool to quantify the TEQ values of dioxin-like chemicals in the samples and may help understand the interspecies difference between humans and animals. 相似文献

Consequences of orthophosphate addition for corrosion control in water distribution pipes with respect to microbial growth were investigated using batch and dynamic tests. Batch tests showed that the release of copper in either low or high organic carbon content water was decreased by 69% and 56% with addition 206 microg PO(4)-P, respectively. Dosing of orthophosphate against corrosion did not increase microbial growth potential in the water and in the biofilm in both corroded and uncorroded systems receiving tap water with a low content of organic carbon and of biodegradable organic fraction. However, in tap water having a high concentration of organic carbon from acetate addition, orthophosphate addition promoted the growth of bacteria, allowed more bacteria to assemble on corroded and uncorroded surfaces, and increased the consumption of organic carbon. Orthophosphate consumption did not exceed 1% of the amount of easily biodegradable organic carbon required for microbial growth, and the orthophosphate demand for corrosion control greatly exceeded the nutritional requirement of microbial growth. The results of the dynamic tests demonstrated that there was a significant effect of interaction between biodegradable organic carbon and orthophosphate on biofilm growth, whereby the effect of orthophosphate flux on microbial growth was dependent on the levels of biodegradable organic carbon. Controlling an easily biodegradable organic carbon would be therefore necessary to minimize the microbial growth potential induced by orthophosphate-based anticorrosion treatment. 相似文献

The possibility of using incinerator bottom ash as a substitute for natural aggregates was investigated. Rough, porous surface of bottom ash, which diminishes the strength of solidified products, was improved by colloidal silica solution. As a result, a significant increase of mechanical strength was accomplished by a slight amount of silica (<1 wt% to total). Moreover, pozzolanic reaction was induced in initial cement hydration due to the nano-particle size of about 20 nm in colloidal silica solution. Cylindrical specimens and bricks were prepared from bottom ash added to a colloidal silica (SiO2) solution and cement, and then their compressive strengths were evaluated. Cylindrical specimens showed an increase of approximately 60% in compressive strength when colloidal solution containing 4 wt% silica particles was sprayed onto the bottom ash. The strength of bricks containing colloidal silica was in excess of 20 MPa, which meets the requirement of construction materials. Results of leaching tests based on Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) proved that the solidified bottom ash possessed good chemical stability. 相似文献

The performance of a lab scale biofilter packed with biomedia, encapsulated by sodium alginate and polyvinyl alcohol was used for treating ammonia (NH(3)) gas at different loading rates. The metabolic end products during NH(3) oxidation were NH(4)(+), NO(3)(-) and NO(2)(-). It is noteworthy to mention that the immobilized cell biofilter required no separate acclimatization period and showed high removal efficiencies during the start of continuous experiments. The removal efficiency was nearly 100% when ammonia loading was 4.5gm(-3)h(-1) and the maximum elimination capacity achieved in this study was 5.5gNH(3)m(-3)h(-1) at a loading rate of 7.5gm(-3)h(-1). Shock loading studies were carried out to ascertain the response of the immobilized cells to fluctuations in inlet concentration and flow rate. The inlet loading rates were varied between 0.05 and 6gNH(3)m(-3)h(-1) during this phase of operation. The biofilter responded effectively to these shock loading conditions and recovered rapidly within 4-8h. Pressure drop values were consistently less and insignificant. The results from this study indicated that this immobilized cell biofilter could be considered as a potential option to treat NH(3) under steady and transient state operation. 相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were commercially produced between 1959 and 1984 in eastern Slovakia. Improper handling led to a highly contaminated local environment and high levels of PCBs in humans and wildlife in the Michalovce area. The aim of this study was to analyse serum for methylsulfonyl metabolites of PCB (MeSO(2)-PCBs) and DDE (3-MeSO(2)-DDE) in serum samples from pregnant women and in a selected number of paired cord blood samples to assess maternal sulfone levels and patterns, and transplacental transfer of these metabolites. The donating women were from two districts in eastern Slovakia. A liquid-liquid extraction method together with separation of substance groups and further clean-up on silica gel columns were applied prior to analysis by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. 3-MeSO(2)-DDE was the major methyl sulfone in most of the samples followed by a yet not identified MeSO(2)-hexaCB, 4'-MeSO(2)-CB101, 4'-MeSO(2)-CB87 and 4-MeSO(2)-CB149. The women from the contaminated area had three times higher concentrations of the MeSO(2)-PCBs than women from the reference area. This is the first report on methyl sulfone metabolites of PCB and DDE in human cord serum. It is shown that these metabolites are transported through the placenta. The levels of MeSO(2)-PCBs in the maternal serum were about 1.5 times higher than in the corresponding cord serum on a lipid weight basis. For 3-MeSO(2)-DDE, the levels were about the same in maternal and cord serum. The difference in the maternal:cord ratio, comparing MeSO(2)-PCBs with 3-MeSO(2)-DDE might be due to differences in transport through the placenta caused by their different affinities for lipoproteins and plasma proteins. 相似文献

In this study, several existing municipal solid waste (MSW) settlement estimation methods are reviewed and applied to analyze the settlement data of nine MSW landfills. Because a biodegradation-related settlement contributes differently to a long-term total settlement depending on the age of landfills, the actual MSW landfill sites are classified into three groups to specifically address the validity of each method in its prediction of a long-term settlement for each age category. Results demonstrate that there are considerable decreases in predicted settlement potentials as fill age increases. Comparisons indicate that the individual estimation methods display a considerable variation in predicting settlements in the fresh MSW landfills. On the other hand, for the old refuse landfills, all of the estimation methods, except the extended soil model, predict low settlement potentials. 相似文献

Spatial and temporal distribution patterns of total suspended solids (TSS) in the shallow and macrotidal regions of the Korean
peninsula indicated there were significant changes in TSS concentrations. These were seasonally influenced by the wind, river
input and tidal cycle. There were high TSS values at estuarine and river mouth stations and during low tide due to the re-suspension
of bottom sediment by strong wind action during winter months, in addition the land input through rivers and strong tidal
current during ebbing. Monthly mean values of TSS significantly correlated with wind speed and nitrate concentration (p < 0.01). This indicated that the resuspension of surface sediment was a more important source of TSS than the river input,
and that nitrate was introduced into the water column during the resuspension process. TSS were seven times higher at low
tide than in high tide. Light penetration was significantly inhibited by TSS; as >98% of incident light was absorbed within
2 m and zero photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) under 2 m in the estuarine stations during winter. Removal of heavy
metals and nutrients by TSS in the water column was evident. Over 80% of the initial concentration of nutrients was removed
within 10 min under various concentrations of TSS and also TSS contained significantly higher concentration of heavy metals
than surface sediment. The concentration levels of nutrients and chemical oxygen demand in the west coast were comparable
with the East and South Sea, even the major rivers in the Korean peninsula flow into the West Sea with major pollutant loadings
into the coastal areas. High concentration of TSS is likely to contribute to the removal process of these pollutants, resulting
in relatively lower levels of nutrients and organic materials in these coastal waters. 相似文献

An aggregated farm-level index, the Agri-environmental Footprint Index (AFI), based on multiple criteria methods and representing a harmonised approach to evaluation of EU agri-environmental schemes is described. The Index uses a common framework for the design and evaluation of policy that can be customised to locally relevant agri-environmental issues and circumstances. Evaluation can be strictly policy-focused, or broader and more holistic in that context-relevant assessment criteria that are not necessarily considered in the evaluated policy can nevertheless be incorporated. The Index structure is flexible, and can respond to diverse local needs. The process of Index construction is interactive, engaging farmers and other relevant stakeholders in a transparent decision-making process that can ensure acceptance of the outcome, help to forge an improved understanding of local agri-environmental priorities and potentially increase awareness of the critical role of farmers in environmental management. The structure of the AFI facilitates post-evaluation analysis of relative performance in different dimensions of the agri-environment, permitting identification of current strengths and weaknesses, and enabling future improvement in policy design. Quantification of the environmental impact of agriculture beyond the stated aims of policy using an ‘unweighted’ form of the AFI has potential as the basis of an ongoing system of environmental audit within a specified agricultural context. 相似文献
