The novel SARS-CoV-2 outbreak was declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020. Understanding the airborne route of SARS-CoV-2 transmission is essential for infection prevention and control. In this study, a total of 107 indoor air samples (45 SARS-CoV-2, 62 bacteria, and fungi) were collected from different wards of the Hajar Hospital in Shahrekord, Iran. Simultaneously, bacterial and fungal samples were also collected from the ambient air of hospital yard. Overall, 6 positive air samples were detected in the infectious 1 and infectious 2 wards, intensive care unit (ICU), computed tomography (CT) scan, respiratory patients’ clinic, and personal protective equipment (PPE) room. Also, airborne bacteria and fungi were simultaneously detected in the various wards of the hospital with concentrations ranging from 14 to 106 CFU m?3 and 18 to 141 CFU m?3, respectively. The highest mean concentrations of bacteria and fungi were observed in respiratory patients’ clinics and ICU wards, respectively. Significant correlation (p < 0.05) was found between airborne bacterial concentration and the presence of SARS-CoV-2, while no significant correlation was found between fungi concentration and the virus presence. This study provided an additional evidence about the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the indoor air of a hospital that admitted COVID-19 patients. Moreover, it was revealed that the monitoring of microbial quality of indoor air in such hospitals is very important, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, for controlling the nosocomial infections.

Two types of media, a natural medium (wood chips) and a commercially engineered medium, were evaluated for sulfur inhibition and capacity for removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Sulfate was added artificially (40, 65, and 100 mg of S/g of medium) to test its effect on removal efficiency and the media. A humidified gas stream of 50 ppm by volume H2S was passed through the media-packed columns, and effluent readings for H2S at the outlet were measured continuously. The overall H2S baseline removal efficiencies of the column packed with natural medium remained >95% over a 2-day period even with the accumulated sulfur species. Added sulfate at a concentration high enough to saturate the biofilter moisture phase did not appear to affect the H2S removal process efficiency. The results of additional experiments with a commercial granular medium also demonstrated that the accumulation of amounts of sulfate sufficient enough to saturate the moisture phase of the medium did not have a significant effect on H2S removal. When the pH of the biofilter medium was lowered to 4, H2S removal efficiency did drop to 36%. This work suggests that sulfate mass transfer through the moisture phase to the biofilm phase does not appear to inhibit H2S removal rates in biofilters. Thus, performance degradation for odor-removing biofilters or H2S breakthrough in field applications is probably caused by other consequences of high H2S loading, such as sulfur precipitation. 相似文献

Chemically prepared activated carbon derived from banana stalk (BSAC) was used as an adsorbent to remove malachite green (MG) dye from aqueous solution. BSAC was characterised using thermogravimetric analyser, Brunauer Emmett Teller, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, pHpzc, elemental analysis and Boehm titration. The effectiveness of BSAC in adsorbing MG dye was studied as a function of pH, contact time, temperature, initial dye concentration and repeated desorption–adsorption processes. pHpzc of BSAC was 4.5 and maximum dye adsorption occurred at pH 8.0. The rate of dye adsorption by BSAC was very fast initially, attaining equilibrium within 120 min following a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Experimental data were analysed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Raduschevich isotherms. Equilibrium data fitted best into the Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 141.76 mg·g?1. Δ G0 values were negative, indicating that the process of MG dye adsorption onto BSAC was spontaneous. The positive values of Δ H0 and Δ S0 suggests that the process of dye adsorption was endothermic. The regeneration efficiency of spent BSAC was studied using 0.5 M HCl, and was found to be in the range of 90.22–95.16% after four cycles. This adsorbent was found to be both effective and viable for the removal of MG dye from aqueous solution. 相似文献
Pollution of aquatic environments by trace metals is a worldwide environmental problem. Metal pollutants are increasingly being released into the environment as a result of industrialization. In this study, the bioaccumulation of cadmium and lead in young juvenile milkfish liver (Chanos chanos) was investigated after exposure to three sublethal concentration of each pollutants (1/20, 1/10, and 1/5 LC50 of 96-h LC50) for acute time 12, 24, and 96 h and subchronically for 7, 14, and 21 days. Cadmium and lead accumulation in liver increased with the exposure period and concentrations of pollutant. Compared to controls, the uptake of cadmium is much higher than that of lead. Accumulation factors showed an increase with exposure time and for lead an inverse relationship between accumulation factor and exposure concentration. The elimination of the two pollutants during the 30 days depuration was investigated after 30 days depuration time. During this phase, cadmium and lead concentrations decreased. 相似文献
