A note on natural production functions

Two techniques are presented for estimation of natural animal populations, both of which may incorporate the effect of pollutants on populations. Both techniques assume specific underlying population dynamics which may not be applicable to certain species or ecosystems. However, both techniques allow for testing the hypothesis that the population dynamics specified is applicable. The techniques are used to criticize two recent empirical investigations of fisheries.     

Intertemporal and intergenerational pareto efficiency: A comment

In a recent issue of this Journal, Sandler and Smith developed an analysis from which they concluded that discounting is Pareto inefficient in an intertemporal context. This comment questions the validity of that conclusion and demonstrates the essential role played by the discount rate in achieving intertemporal Pareto efficiency within a market economy.

安全系统工程Web课件的设计与开发

随着网络教育在我国的蓬勃发展，《安全系统工程》课程面临着教学手段和方式的重要变革，开发适用于网络教育的高质量的课件成了一个非常重要而迫切的课题。对该课程Web课件的设计与开发进行了探讨，综合运用了当今网络课件开发的新技术，规划了课件的总体结构、各模块功能和开发方案，为安全工程学科Web课件的开发提供参考。     

钙类化合物固硫作用动力学分析

通过钙类化合物对动力用煤固硫作用的模拟试验 ,对不同钙化合物固硫率 (J)与Ca/S及助剂关系的研究 ,得到了钙类化合物固硫率的次序 ,即 :JNaOH +CaO>JCaCO3>JCaO>JCa(OH) 2 ,结果说明固硫率与钙类化合物的存在形式有关 ,并解释了其固硫作用机理     

Strategies for sustainable development of the small-scale gold and diamond mining industry of Ghana

The small-scale gold and diamonds mining industry is of great importance to Ghana. Since its regularization in 1989 the sector has produced and sold over 1.5 million troy ounces of gold and 8.0 million carats of diamonds. During the same period the sector also provided direct employment to over 100,000 people and improved the socioeconomic life of many individuals and communities. However, these were largely achieved at a cost to the environment in areas where mining is carried out and there is the need to develop the industry in a sustainable manner. This paper looks at the developments in the small-scale gold and diamonds mining industry in Ghana and proposes some strategies on how the concepts of sustainable development could be applied to the industry.
