Although the accuracy of job analysis information is critically important, standards for accuracy are not clear. Researchers have recently begun to address various aspects of job analysis accuracy by investigating such things as potential sources of inaccuracy in job analysis as well as attempting to reconceptualize our notions of job analysis accuracy. This article adds to the debate by first discussing how job analysis accuracy has been conceptualized. This points to difficulties in the prevalent ‘true score’ model upon which many of these discussions have been based. We suggest that discussions of job analysis accuracy would benefit from a consideration of the validity of job analysis inferences, as a complement to the more traditional focus on the validity of job analysis data. Toward this end, we develop a model of the inferences made in the job analysis process, outline some of the ways these inference could be tested, and discuss implications of this perspective. Current and Potential Ranges of Three Exotic Goldenrods (Solidago) in Europe   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13  
Abstract: The homoclime approach has been used to estimate the potential distributions of the exotic goldenrods Solidago altissima , S. gigantea , and S. graminifolia in Europe. These three rhizomatous perennial plants were introduced as ornamentals about 250 years ago. Whereas S. altissima and S. gigantea have become widespread and serious invaders of abandoned fields, forest edges, and river banks, S. graminifolia is still confined to a few sites in Europe. Climatic profiles of their native ranges have been established for each species based on nine parameters from stations throughout their American ranges. I determined potential distributions for each species by mapping European stations that match the climatic profiles. The potential distributions of all three species are substantially larger than their current distributions in Europe. Areas not yet colonized but predicted to be climatically suitable included parts of southern and southeastern Europe, Scandinavia, and the Middle East. Among the three species, the potential range of S. altissima was largest in its latitudinal extent. The discrepancy between current and potential range was highest in S. graminifolia because of its restricted distribution. My results strongly suggest that the spread of S. altissima and S. gigantea has not yet reached its limits and that their range expansion will continue. Large parts of Europe were estimated to be climatically suitable to S. graminifolia , but invasion has not yet occurred. This species is either in lag phase or its spread is limited by factors other than climate.  相似文献

In 1997, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised its particulate matter standards to include an annual standard for fine particulate matter (PM2.5; 15 microg/m3) and a 24-hr standard (65 microg/m3). The 24-hr standard was lowered to 35 microg/m3 in 2006 in an effort to further reduce overall ambient PM2.5 concentrations. Identifying and quantifying sources of particulate matter affecting a particular location through source apportionment methods is now an important component of the information available to decision makers when evaluating the new standards. This literature compilation summarizes a subset of the source apportionment research and general findings on fine particulate matter in the eastern half of the United States using Positive Matrix Factorization. The results between studies are generally comparable when comparable datasets are used; however, methodologies vary considerably. Commonly identified source categories include: secondary sulfate/coal burning (sometimes over 50% of total mass), secondary organic carbon/mobile sources, crustal sources, biomass burning, nitrate, various industrial processes, and sea salt. The source apportionment tools and methodologies have passed the proof-of-concept stage and are now being used to understand the ambient composition of particulate matter for sites across the United States and the spatial relationship of sources to the receptor. Recommendations are made for further and standardized method development for source apportionment studies, and specific research areas of interest for the eastern United States are proposed.  相似文献

With urban populations worldwide expected to witness substantial growth over the next decades, pressure on urban land and resources is projected to increase in response. For policy-makers to adequately meet the challenges brought about by changes in the dynamics of urban areas, it is important to clearly identify and communicate their causes. Floods in Douala (the most densely populated city in the central African sub-region), are being associated chiefly with changing rainfall patterns, resulting from climate change in major policy circles. We investigate this contention using statistical analysis of daily rainfall time-series data covering the period 1951–2008, and tools of geographic information systems. Using attributes such as rainfall anomalies, trends in the rainfall time series, daily rainfall maxima and rainfall intensity–duration–frequency, we find no explanation for the attribution of an increase in the occurrences and severity of floods to changing rainfall patterns. The culprit seems to be the massive increase in the population of Douala, in association with poor planning and investment in the city's infrastructure. These demographic changes and poor planning have occurred within a physical geography setting that is conducive for the inducement of floods. Failed urban planning in Cameroon since independence set the city up for a flood-prone land colonization. This today translates to a situation in which large portions of the city's surface area and the populations they harbor are vulnerable to the city's habitual annual floods. While climate change stands to render the city even more vulnerable to floods, there is no evidence that current floods can be attributed to the changes in patterns of rainfall being reported in policy and news domains.  相似文献

Objective

We aimed to investigate how the presence of fetal anomalies and different X chromosome variants influences Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening results for monosomy X.

Methods

From a multicenter retrospective survey on 673 pregnancies with prenatally suspected or confirmed Turner syndrome, we analyzed the subgroup for which prenatal cfDNA screening and karyotype results were available. A cfDNA screening result was defined as true positive (TP) when confirmatory testing showed 45,X or an X-chromosome variant.

Results

We had cfDNA results, karyotype, and phenotype data for 55 pregnancies. cfDNA results were high risk for monosomy X in 48/55, of which 23 were TP and 25 were false positive (FP). 32/48 high-risk cfDNA cases did not show fetal anomalies. Of these, 7 were TP. All were X-chromosome variants. All 16 fetuses with high-risk cfDNA result and ultrasound anomalies were TP. Of fetuses with abnormalities, those with 45,X more often had fetal hydrops/cystic hygroma, whereas those with “variant” karyotypes had different anomalies.

Conclusion

Both, 45,X or X-chromosome variants can be detected after a high-risk cfDNA result for monosomy X. When there are fetal anomalies, the result is more likely a TP. In the absence of fetal anomalies, it is most often an FP or X-chromosome variant.  相似文献

This paper explores the complex heterogeneous experiences of flood impacts based on a bio-psychosocial model of socio-economic, demographic, behavioural and environmental factors. Using ordinary least squares regression on a cross-sectional survey of 1003 individuals, flood impacts in three contiguous coastal neighbourhoods in Lagos, Nigeria, were modelled. The results show that approximately 52% of the variability in flood impact was accounted for by education, age, family structure, ethnicity, personal health concern and income. While involvement in coping was not a significant predictor of flood impacts, relocation emerged as a strong predictor. The inclusion of behavioural factors did not change the magnitude and significance of the relationship between demographic factors and flood impacts. However, the effects of age, education and personal health concern disappeared when environmental factors were controlled. The overall importance of the predictors for determining flood impact in decreasing order is as follows: income > coping strategies > ethnicity = participation in community development > family structure > personal health concerns > housing quality > reasons for living in residential locality > neighbourhood vulnerability to flood > housing vulnerability to flood.  相似文献

The distribution of urban ecosystem services (UES) is often uneven across socioeconomic groups, leading to environmental justice issues. Understanding the distribution of UES across a landscape can help managers ensure an equitable distribution of services. While many past studies have focused on the distribution of green spaces in relation to socioeconomic variables, this research analyzes the distribution of UES provided by these green spaces. This research quantified air pollution removal, atmospheric carbon reduction, and surface runoff mitigation provided by urban trees in Strasbourg city (France). The provision of these three UES was studied at the census block scale by creating an index of UES delivery, which was contrasted with a constructed social deprivation index. Our results show that there is no significant association between the delivery of UES and social deprivation. Some deprived populations benefit from high UES delivery. Results also suggest that mapping associations between UES delivery and social deprivation should be integrated with future development plans to enhance the equitable distribution of UES. This study provides insights into the French context where studies about the distribution of UES at a small-area level remain lacking.  相似文献

The use of waters of impaired quality has been suggested as a means to expand available water resources supply for water‐limited communities. An ongoing concern is the safety of supplies that use wastewater because of the potential for introduction of emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals into drinking water supplies. Prior research into contaminants of emerging concerns (CECs) have included a variety of methods, but the only consistent removal is with reverse osmosis (RO) membranes, ultraviolet light (UV), and advanced oxidation processes (AOP). However, few of these prior studies have measurable quantities of these contaminants in the influent wastewater, so determining actual removal percentages is difficult. This project was designed to evaluate the removal of CECs to verify that a 3‐log removal of common constituents was realized. Spike testing was used to compare to prior research and to evaluate whether the project costs were competitive with other forms of reuse or other water supplies. The combination of RO/UV/AOP was effective at obtaining a 3‐log removal of CECs, but the RO and UV/AOP processes alone were not capable of removing all substances. However, despite the extensive treatment, the proposed process was both competitive cost‐wise and met the water quality goals.  相似文献
