The jute yarn was grafted with acrylamide monomer (AA) under ultraviolet (UV) radiation to modify its mechanical and degradable properties. A number of AA solutions of different concentrations in methanol (MeOH) along with photoinitiator Irgacure 907 [2-methyl-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)-2-morpholinopropanone-1] were prepared. The monomer concentration and irradiation time were optimized. Jute yarn grafted with 30% AA under UV radiation for 60 min showed of the highest polymer loading (PL) value of 22% with a enhanced tensile strength (TS) value of 195% and elongation at break (Eb) value of 256% compared to untreated jute yarn. To further improve the properties of jute yarn, a number of additives (1%) such as urea, polyvinylpyrrolidone, urethane acrylate, and urethane diacrylate were used in the AA (30%) solution. Among all the additives used, urea significantly influenced the PL (27%), TS (230%), and Eb (264%) values of the treated jute yarns. Water uptake and the degradation properties of treated and untreated jute yarn caused by simulated weathering and in soil (25% water) were also studied. The rate of degradation of grafted sample is lower then that of untreated sample. DSC studies showed the thermal stability of the AA plus urea grafted sample. 相似文献

ABSTRACT The main challenge of utilizing ethanol in diesel engines in blending mode is the phase separation issue. Therefore, an attempt has been performed to enhance the stability feature of ethanol/Jatropha biodiesel (JME) blends by using n-butanol as co-solvent. The 10% by volume of n-butanol is added to the mixtures of 10% and 20% ethanol and 70% and 80% JME, which is denoted as JME10Bu10E and JME10Bu20E, respectively. The phase stability of the evaluated fuels is examined employing visual approach and Thermogravimetric analysis. These methods confirm that there is no phase separation for more than 2 months under ambient conditions. Then, the combustion and emission features are investigated utilizing a diesel engine run with different loads and constant speed. The findings demonstrate that the pmax. and HRR are increased by adding ethanol. The ignition delay is extended with the addition of ethanol while the combustion period is almost the same. The bsfc is decreased by adding ethanol compared to JME fuel. The CO, UHC, and NOx formations are reduced markedly by 40%, 40%, and 40%, respectively, with adding ethanol. Finally, using n-butanol and JME as co-solvents with ethanol supports the growth of renewable energy in the CI engine. 相似文献

To answer the difficult question of how to integrate operation of ground and surface water supplies into their management plans, the decision-makers must be able to predict the effects of various alternative modes of operation and meteorological conditions on the groundwater basin. Many types of models have been used for simulating the behavior of groundwater basins under these changes. Analog simulators, analog computers, and digital computers have been employed for model development. To achieve plausible models, detailed hydraulic and hydrologic characteristics are required, such as data on transmissivity, storage, and net deep percolation. These data are used in the equations that form the model. Water quality, which cannot be separated from quantity, deserves equal consideration. Experiments were carried out to investigate the reduction of tri- and tetra-chloroethene with iron in aqueous solutions. Results indicate (i) dependence of the dehalogenation capacity of the iron on its sulfur content and (ii) that ethyne was the primary dehalogenated hydrocarbon for both compounds. Qatar has serious water resource problems, following rapid socioeconomic development and massive population increase. Municipal water provision depends on costly and unsustainable desalination. There is little regulation. Native Qataris do not pay a water tariff and migrants pay a subsidized price--approximately one third of the cost of production--so there is little awareness of the true cost of water and use is profligate. This paper discusses trends in water use and identifies issues underlying sustainable water use in Qatar. A questionnaire of respondents chosen to represent Qatari social groups measured awareness and attitudes to water. The results show that previous efforts to control water demand in Qatar, using awareness campaigns, legal restrictions and tariffs, have been ineffectual. The questionnaire evaluated reactions to possible measures to limit uses by raising awareness, using legal restrictions and raising tariffs. From this, a number of policy changes can be suggested, to bring Qatar's water industry towards sustainability. 相似文献

The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of chronic treatment with two sublethal doses of Dimethoate (organo-phosphorus) or Deltamethrin (pyrethroid) on body weight and semen characteristics in adult male rabbits. Pesticide treatment resulted in a decline in body weight, libido, ejaculate volume, sperm concentration and semen initial fructose; and an increase in abnormal and dead sperm and methylene blue reduction time. In this regard Dimethoate showed greater effects than Deltamethrin. The hazardous effect of these pesticides on semen quality continued during the post-treatment period, and was dose-dependent. This deleterious effect on sperm formation together with the decline in libido suggest a decrease in testosterone secretion by pesticide treatment. 相似文献

A time series approach using autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) modeling has been used in this study to obtain maximum daily surface ozone (O3) concentration forecasts. The order of the fitted ARIMA model is found to be (1,0,1) for the surface O3 data collected at the airport in Brunei Darussalam during the period July 1998-March 1999. The model forecasts of one-day-ahead maximum O3 concentrations have been found to be reasonably close to the observed concentrations. The model performance has been evaluated on the basis of certain commonly used statistical measures. The overall model performance is found to be quite satisfactory as indicated by the values of Fractional Bias, Normalized Mean Square Error, and Mean Absolute Percentage Error as 0.025, 0.02, and 13.14% respectively. 相似文献

The homogeneous degradation of the polychlorinated n-alkane, 1,2,9,10-tetrachlorodecane (T4C10), was studied in aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide, including Fenton and photo-Fenton reaction conditions. All solutions were adjusted to a pH of 2.8 and an ionic strength of 0.1 M NaClO4 prior to photolysis. T4C10 (2 x 10(-6) M) was substantially degraded by the H2O2/UV system (1.0 x 10(-2) M H2O2), with 60% disappearance in 20 min of irradiation in a photoreactor equipped with 300 nm lamps of light intensity 3.6 x 10(-5) Ein L(-1) min(-1) (established by ferrioxalate actinometry). The reaction produced stoichiometric amounts of chloride ion indicating complete dechlorination of the chlorinated n-alkane. T4C10 degraded very slowly under Fenton (Fe2+/H2O2/dark) and Fenton-like (Fe3+/H2O2/dark) conditions. However, when the same solutions were irradiated, T4C10 degraded more rapidly than in the H2O2/UV system, with 61% disappearance in 10 min of exposure. The rapid degradation is related to the enhanced degradation of hydrogen peroxide to oxidizing *OH radicals under photo-Fenton conditions. Degradation was inhibited in both the H2O2/UV and photo-Fenton systems by the addition of KI and tert-butyl alcohol due to *OH scavenging. 相似文献
