Wood resources are often used to support the needs of the local population. In order to protect biodiversity and resources,
conservation strategies need to consider what types of wood use have the strongest impacts on forested areas. This study aimed
to identify the use categories that put higher pressure on an Atlantic forest region located in the municipality of Igarassu
in Pernambuco, northeastern Brazil. To conduct the study, we measured the volume of all wood products in 62 surveyed residences
and registered the average replacement time for such products. The fuelwood category was most important locally and accounted
for 92% of annual wood consumption. However, the construction category harvests more destructively and concentrates on the
consumption of a few wood species. Therefore we recommend the fuelwood category to be the main focus of conservation effforts.
In addition, the most important species for construction purposes (e.g., Eschweilera ovata (Cambess.) Miers, Apuleia leiocarpa (Vogel) J.F. Macbr. and Pogonophora schomburgkiana Miers ex Benth) should also be considered as a priority for conservation. 相似文献
The wastes from the macro-fungus Agaricus bisporus were used as an eco-friendly and low-cost adsorbent for the treatment of colored effluents containing the recalcitrant dyes, acid red 97 (AR97) and crystal violet (CV). The macro-fungal waste presented an amorphous structure, composed of particles with different sizes and shapes. Also, it presents typical functional chemical groups of proteins and carbohydrates with a point of zero charge of 4.6. The optimum conditions for the dosage were found to be as follows: 0.5 g L−1 with an initial pH at 2.0 for the AR97 and 8.0 for the CV. From the kinetic test, it was found that it took 210 min and an adsorption capacity of 165 mg g−1 for the AR97. Concerning the CV kinetics, it took 120 min to reach the equilibrium and it achieved an adsorption capacity of 165.9 mg g−1. The Elovich model was the most proper model for describing the experimental data, achieving an R2 ≥ 0.997 and MSE ≤ 36.98 (mg g−1)2. The isotherm curves were best represented by the Langmuir model, predicting maximum adsorption capacity of 372.69 and 228.74 mg g−1 for the AR97 and CV, respectively. The process was spontaneous and favorable for both dyes. The ∆H0 values were 9.53 and 10.69 kJ mol−1 for AR97 and CV, respectively, indicating physical and endothermic adsorption. Overall, the wastes from Agaricus bisporus have the potential to adsorb cationic and anionic dyes, thus solving environmental problems related to water quality and residue disposal.

Pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) is one of the most representative fish species of Brazilian fish culture, produced in most Brazilian States due to its importance for food diet and sport fishery. This research work investigated the bioconcentration of trichlorfon [phosphonic acid, (2,2,2-trichloro-1-hydroxyethyl)-dimethyl ester] insecticide in pacu under fish ponds culture conditions and a first-order kinetic insecticide dissipation in the water. Trichlorfon was applied at a rate of 4.62 x 10(4) mg to each of three nurseries containing 4.2 x 10(5)l of water. The fish ponds were built on the soil and supported 60 young pacus fishes. The concentrations of trichlorfon fitted to an equivalent non-linear kinetic type model, allows estimate the values of trichlorfon concentration in the water and fishes. These estimations together with the bioconcentration factor determined in the fishes, allowed establishing theoretical reference limit values for human consumption of fishes produced under cultivation systems with trichlorfon. This information will contribute to enlarge the database on pesticide use in Brazilian commercial fish farming, especially about the use of trichlorfon as chemotherapy for the control of fish ectoparasites. 相似文献
In this study, the effects of exogenous mercury (HgCl(2)) on time-dependent changes in the activities of antioxidant enzymes (catalase and ascorbate peroxidase), lipid peroxidation, chlorophyll content and protein oxidation in cucumber seedlings (Cucumis sativus L.) were investigated. Cucumber seedlings were exposed to from 0 to 500microM of HgCl(2) during 10 and 15 days. Hg was readily absorbed by growing seedlings, and its content was greater in the roots than the in shoot. Time and concentration-dependent reduction in root and shoot length was observed at all concentrations tested, equally in the roots and shoot, at both 10 and 15 days. At 50microM HgCl(2), root fresh weight of 15-day-old seedlings increased, and at other concentrations, it reduced. For 10-day-old seedlings, reduction in root and shoot fresh biomass was observed. At 15 days, only at 50microM HgCl(2) was there no observed reduction in shoot fresh biomass. Dry weight of roots increased at 500microM both at 10 and 15 days, though at 250microM HgCl(2) there was only an increase at 15 days. There was a significant effect on shoot dry weight at all concentrations tested. Hg-treated seedlings showed elevated levels of lipid peroxides with a concomitant increase in protein oxidation levels, and decreased chlorophyll content when exposed to between 250 and 500microM of HgCl(2). At 10 days, catalase activity increased in seedlings at a moderately toxic level of Hg, whereas at the higher concentration (500microM), there was a marked inhibition. Taken together, our results suggest that Hg induces oxidative stress in cucumber, resulting in plant injury. 相似文献
