Traffic related platinum deposits on, or near to, the roads. Platinum accumulation was studied using the method of standardised culture of grass (Lolium multiflorum) at locations with different traffic exposure in the region of Munich. Grass cultures from 6 locations with high traffic exposure, and 3 reference locations far away from traffic emissions, were analysed in 1992 and 1993. The results show a good indication of the platinum emissions byLolium multiflorum. The platinum concentrations rose with the increasing traffic. They diminished with growing distance from the verge of the road. The highest average platinum concentrations were measured at locations close to highly frequented urban roads, in the range 0.8 to 2.9 μg/kg dm. The average platinum concentration at locations far from emissions was found in the range of 0.17 to 0.51 μg/kg dm in 1992 and 1993. The good correlation between the platinum concentrations in grass cultures and the concentrations of other traffic-related elements, like antimony, chromium and lead, verifies the dependence of platinum accumulation from traffic. 相似文献

An approach to biomonitoring of immission-induced mercury contents (= immission effects) in standardized grass cultures was made at locations with different settlement structures and in the vicinity of two waste incineration plants in the context of a research project dealing with “Active biomonitoring of immission effects in the testing area of Munich”. In 1992, mercury could be found in most grass samples using the method of cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CVAAS) with an analytical detection limit of 20 µg/kg dry mass. With a new detection limit of 5 µg/kg dry mass attained by a better analytical procedure, mercury could be detected in all grass samples of 1993. An influence of the two examined waste incineration plants on the mercury content in grass could not be detected, although a relationship between mercury contents in the standardized grass culture and settlement structures is indicated. 相似文献

The objective of mutagenicity assays in regulatory toxicology is the decision on non-mutagenicity or mutagenicity. An inherent problem of statistical tests is the possibility of false decisions, i.e., a mutagenic substance will be falsely labeled as non-mutagenic or a non-mutagenic substance will be falsely labeled as mutagenic. These probabilities of false negative (consumer's risk=type II error) and/or false positive decision (producer's risk=type I error) can be limited by using suitable testing procedures as well as a design including an appropriate positive control. Using the proof of hazard concept the well-known many-to-one procedures with total order restriction for increasing effect differences are used, while using the proof of safety concept procedures on equivalence with total order restriction are discussed. The Wanjiazhai Water Transfer Project, now under development by the Shanxi Province of China with World Bank assistance, is a pioneering undertaking providing massive integrated water transfer, to enable the 'parched' regions of northern China to be able to survive. The Wanjiazhai project will deliver some 1.76 million m3/day of fresh water from the Wanjiazhai Reservoir on the Yellow River, by means of a series of pumping stations tunnels, and other components, over a distance of some 285 km to the City of Taiyuan, which is the hub of one of China's major industrial zones. Due to the continuing growth of population and of associated industry and agriculture, the local water resources have become totally overutilised, although extensive recycling for industry and irrigation occurs. The current sustainability of the groundwater resources is seriously threatened, for the present water shortage is 0.43 million m3/day. In addition, because of the large production of pollutant discharges with insufficient attention to waste management, the local river has become grossly polluted. The only answer is a massive importation of water, which is the first step in the project now underway.The focus of the present paper is to examine how the overall project will incorporate essential components to ensure that the expensive imported water will be wisely utilized. To manage this problem the overall project includes a number of special components including: (i) a critical assessment of the new total water resources availability and its allocation between various users, including a pricing structure which assigns equal value to both local and imported water supplies, (ii) an optimization of use of clean technologies and of recycling by industries, as well as improved waste treatment, including the establishment of a financial revolving fund to assist in achieving these goals, (iii) a substantial strengthening of the community/regional water pollution control management operations, with adequate funding, so as to upgrade the municipal wastewater treatment system to restore the river to acceptable water quality levels and, (iv) the recharging of the groundwater basins with treated sewage effluents, plus recharging using floodwater runoff during the rainy seasons. 相似文献
