Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a widely used white pigment. TiO2 production in 2006 was about 1,400,000 metric tons in the USA. The two major processes to manufacture TiO2 are the chloride process and the sulfate process. Currently, the TiO2 industry finds the waste generated in the chloride process less than the waste generated in the sulfate process in its present design, despite generating large quantities of process-related carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. As a consequence, the sulfate process appears less economical, notably due to the production of green vitriol, FeSO4·7H2O, as a major waste. Here, we describe a more sustainable sulfate process based on an earlier study on thermal decomposition of iron(II) sulfates. In the sustainable sulfate process, FeSO4·7H2O waste is used for greener production of sulfuric acid, H2SO4, used in turn for the digestion of ilmenite. Theoretical and actual yields of waste byproducts per metric ton of TiO2 produced are used to show the environmental and economic advantages of the sustainable sulfate process. 相似文献
This study was carried out to explore the possibility of making cement-bonded composite building products using eucalypt (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) and poplar (Populus deltoides). The experimental design consisted of three treatments—mixture of fibrous materials, cement and calcium chloride (CaCl2) contents. Some physical properties, vis. water absorption (WA) and thickness swelling (TS), were investigated. The ratio
of woodwool : cement was 40:60 and 60:40 by weight. Results showed that, water uptake increased with increasing woodwool content.
In addition, boards fully made with poplar woodwools had superior properties compared to the eucalypt and mixed woodwools.
The presence of eucalypt woodwools in mixture of fibrous materials typically resulted in increase in TS and WA. It is interesting
to note that a dose of 5% of CaCl2 by weight of cement can enhance the effect of cement. Application of Duncan’s Multiple Range Test for the mean values of
the results showed that the effects of all variables and their interactions on the mechanical properties in terms of TS and
WA were highly significant. 相似文献
Recently, an outbreak of a novel human coronavirus which is referred to as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (COVID-19) by the World Health Organization (WHO) was identified in Wuhan, China. To help combat the pandemic, a systematic review (SR) was performed to collect all available studies concerning inactivation methods, environmental survival, and control and prevention strategies. A comprehensive literature survey yielded 42 eligible studies which included in the SR. The results confirmed that the WHO recommended two alcohol-based hand rub formulations (ethanol 70–95% and 2-propanol 70–100%) had an efficient virucidal activity in less than 60 s by more and equal 4 log10 (≥ 99.99) approximately and could be used for disinfection in public health and health-care facilities. The findings indicated that SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 can survive under different environmental conditions between 4 and 72 h approximately. The results also demonstrate that temperature and relative humidity are important factors in the survival of SARS-CoV-2. The main strategies recommended by the WHO to avoid contracting SARS-CoV-2 are hand washing several times in the day and maintaining social distancing with others. It is important to note that the more studies require addressing, the more possible airborne transmission due to the survival of SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols for 3 h approximately. We hope that the results of the present SR can help researchers, health decision-makers, policy-makers, and people for understanding and taking the proper behavior to control and prevent further spread of SARS-CoV-2.
The feasibility of sweet cherry gum as a bio-based film-forming material and effect of hydrogen peroxide as a chemical modifier investigated. The influence of film compositions (gum, glycerol) and hydrogen peroxide on the physical properties of films, including solubility in water, permeability to water vapor (WVP), mechanical properties, and transparency, thermal and microstructural properties evaluated. The results showed that WVP and thickness increased by gum and glycerol concentration, but significantly decreased by hydrogen peroxide. As expected, elongation-at-break and solubility, increased at higher concentration of glycerol but the tensile strength decreased at the same condition. The film transparency was influenced by the dry weight content and was improved by higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. The partial degradation of polymer chain by hydrogen peroxide was observed by FTIR analysis. 相似文献
The influence of the various preparation methods of Cu-SAPO-34 nanocatalysts on the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 under excess oxygen was studied. Cu-SAPO-34 nanocatalysts were prepared by using four techniques: conventional impregnation (IM), ultrasound-enhanced impregnation (UIM), conventional deposition precipitation (DP) using NaOH and homogeneous deposition precipitation (HDP) using urea. These catalysts were characterized in detail by various techniques such as N2-sorption, XRD, TEM, H2-TPR, NH3-TPD and XPS to understand the catalyst structure, the nature and the dispersed state of the copper species, and the acid sites for NH3 adsorption. All of the nanocatalysts showed high activities for NO removal. However, the activities were different and followed the sequence of Cu-SAPO-34 (UIM) > Cu-SAPO-34 (HDP) > Cu-SAPO-34 (IM) > Cu-SAPO-34 (DP). Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that the NO conversion on Cu-SAPO-34 nanocatalysts was mainly related to the high reducibility of the isolated Cu2 + ions and CuO species, the number of the acid sites and the dispersion of CuO species on SAPO-34. 相似文献
