This paper provides quantitative information on the transfer of TBT (tributyltin) and TPhT (triphenyltin) from sludged soil to cultivated lettuce. The effect of their initial concentrations in the soil (varying from 20 to 50 microg(Sn)kg(-1) for each triorganotin), sludge amount (between 1% and 9%), and cultivation duration (32-54 days) was evaluated by means of experimental designs. The impact of the cultivation temperature at 13 degrees C and 19 degrees C on organotin fate in the soil/plant system was also considered. The final concentration of a given organotin in the plant roots was found to depend directly on its initial concentration in the soil. A total of (85+/-15)% of initial TBT in the soil was still present at the end of the experiments, regardless of the cultivation duration. Consequently, TBT appeared to be taken up by lettuce continually. A total of (75+/-5)% of TPhT was found to be degraded in the soil at 54 days. So, this compound could have been taken up by the plant at the beginning of the cultivation. Sludge amount seemed to have a negative effect on TPhT concentration in a plant at 32 days. This could be due to the quantitative TPhT sorption onto the sludge, observed just after spiking. Organotin plant uptake appeared to be more important at 19 degrees C than at 13 degrees C. TBT and TPhT were mainly accumulated in the roots, and up to 2% and 10% of TPhT and TBT, respectively, were translocated to the shoots. Despite TPhT degradation, products in large amounts were present in the soil and were not significantly taken up by the plant. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the fludioxonil (fdx) fungicide on the diurnal fluctuation in grapevine photosynthesis. Therefore, fdx treatment was performed at the end of flowering, at 8 am, 12 am or 7 pm. The study was performed in experimental field and several photosynthesis parameters were followed one day after treatment. Morning fdx treatment induced (i) a significant and simultaneous drop of both photosynthesis (Pn) and stomatal conductance between 8 am and 4 pm and (ii) an increase of intercellular CO2 concentration when compared to control plants. On the contrary, evening fdx treatment did not affect Pn whereas midday treatment caused Pn increase after 4 pm. These data suggest that (i) morning fdx treatment results in a non-stomatal limitation of Pn, (ii) midday treatment is more suitable to treat grapevine with fdx and (iii) a phenomenon of gating was noticed. 相似文献

ContextProfessional sea fishing is among the world’s most variable (non-standardized) and dangerous sectors of activity. Because of this, it provides a remarkable model to study the complex links existing between resilience and safety. Paradoxically, even if the huge risks being run cause many shipwrecks (low safety level), studies show that these sailors avoid an even greater number of accidents thanks to their exceptional skill and know-how (remarkable resilience level). This article examines several ways of improving safety in an activity of this type.MethodTwo intervention strategies are tested: (i) a micro-ergonomics strategy offering conduct assistance guidelines based on accident analyses of the most serious and frequent causes (collisions while fishing); (ii) a macro-ergonomics strategy comparing the safety level of large firms having committed to a Total Quality approach, to that of smaller companies, often privately owned.ResultNeither of the two strategies works out as expected. The micro-ergonomics anti-collision assistance strategy is misused towards an increase of the fishing objective; the macro-ergonomics strategy is even more surprising: the largest firms suffer from a smaller number of shipwrecks, but a much greater number of work-related injuries; the strategy simply results in a minor shift of the sacrificial decision between performance and safety (loss of men vs. loss of vessels), while maintaining the same priority for financial performance.DiscussionThe article submits a simple modeling of the relationship between resilience and safety, and discusses the choice of strategies for safety-improving interventions, taking into account the system’s financial performance and the legal pressure to which it is subjected. 相似文献

The proper use of bioaccumulation in the assessment of environmental quality involves accounting for chemical fluxes in organisms. Cadmium (Cd) accumulation kinetics in a soil-plant-snail food chain were therefore investigated in the field under different soil contamination (from 0 to 40 mg kg(-1)), soil pH (6 and 7) and season. Allowing for an accurate and sensitive assessment of Cd transfer to snails, toxicokinetics appears an interesting tool in the improvement of risk assessment procedures and a way to quantify metal bioavailability for a defined target. On the basis of uptake fluxes, snails proved to be sensitive enough to distinguish moderate soil contaminations. The soil pH did not appear, in the range studied, as a modulating parameter of the Cd transfer from soil to snail whereas the season, by influencing the snail mass, may modify the internal concentrations. The present data specifying a time integrated assessment of environmental factors on metal bioavailability and transfer to terrestrial snails should ensure their rational use in environmental biomonitoring. 相似文献

The waste input and the process technology of waste incineration plants appear to have a great influence on bottom ash quality. To better understand how these parameters can affect the characteristics of residues, bottom ash from six plants were tested and compared in this study. Bottom ash physico-chemical characteristics were investigated by chemical analyses, and leaching tests. In order to understand their long-term behavior, accelerated ageing experiments and biodegradation tests were also performed. The whole analyses gave complementary information. It was shown that the six samples do have different properties. Waste inputs have a great influence on Cl and S content in bottom ash, as well as on the Ca/Si ratio. The importance of this ratio on the carbonation process has been demonstrated. Combustion parameters have an influence on the quantity and mobility of the residual organic matter. 相似文献

Phthalates are common atmospheric contaminants used in the plastic industry. Ants have been shown to constitute good bioindicators of phthalate pollution. Hence, phthalates remain trapped on ant cuticles which are mostly coated with long-chain hydrocarbons. In this study, we artificially contaminated Lasius niger ants with four phthalates: dibutyl phthalate (DBP), diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP). The first three have previously been found on ants in nature in Touraine (France), while the fourth has not. The four phthalates disappeared rapidly (less than 5 days) from the cuticles of live ants. In contrast, on the cuticles of dead ants, DEHP quantities remained unchanged over time. These results indicate that phthalates are actively absorbed by the cuticles of live ants. Cuticular absorption of phthalates is nonspecific because eicosane, a nonnatural hydrocarbon on L. niger cuticle, was similarly absorbed. Ants are important ecological engineers and may serve as bioindicators of ecosystem health. We also suggest that ants and more generally terrestrial arthropods may contribute to the removal of phthalates from the local environment. 相似文献

We review the current state of knowledge about urban ecosystem services in New York City (NYC) and how these services are regulated, planned for, and managed. Focusing on ecosystem services that have presented challenges in NYC—including stormwater quality enhancement and flood control, drinking water quality, food provisioning and recreation—we find that mismatches between the scale of production and scale of management occur where service provision is insufficient. Adequate production of locally produced services and services which are more accessible when produced locally is challenging in the context of dense urban development that is characteristic of NYC. Management approaches are needed to address scale mismatches in the production and consumption of ecosystem services. By coordinating along multiple scales of management and promoting best management practices, urban leaders have an opportunity to ensure that nature and ecosystem processes are protected in cities to support the delivery of fundamental urban ecosystem services. 相似文献

Purpose
The quality of fish produced in ponds needs to be ensured. Indeed, pond is often strongly connected to an agricultural watershed, and pesticides are a main health and environmental issue of concern. In this context, the purpose of this study is to highlight the management practices which could impact the pesticide contamination profiles in edible fish and to give recommendations for better practices.Methods
A principal component analysis, coupled to a hierarchical cluster analysis, was performed to evaluate temporal evolution of contamination profiles and to assess variability among fish species and among sites according to watershed characteristics. The explicative variables correspond to muscular concentrations of pesticides (azoxystrobin, clomazone, diflufenican, carbendazim, isoproturon, metazachlor, napropamid) in three species of fish (Perca fluviatilis, Cyprinus carpio and Rutilus rutilus), caught in five ponds during two sampling campaigns. Management data are added variables in order to discuss about parameters suspected to be implicated in the contamination profiles recorded.Results
This work shows that high amounts of pesticides applied, short crop rotation durations and bare soil practices led to contamination of sediments and fish and were associated to a “bad” management of watershed. Breeding fish that had low masses and establishing the fishing period at the end of winter seemed to be “bad” management of pond. Aggravating topological parameters were big watershed coupled to small pond and high proportions of sand soils in the watershed.Conclusions
Reducing amounts of pesticide used (e.g. policy agency plans, farmer acceptance), favouring long-term rotations and inter-cultures, adapting pond creation and fish farming practices to watershed management and topography all could reduce pesticide levels in edible fish and contribute to a better sustainability of the extensive fish farming in pond. 相似文献249.
