This paper deals with a new application of poly 3-methyl thiophene synthesized chemically onto sawdust (termed as P3MTh/SD) as an effective adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions using column system. Chemical synthesis of poly 3-methyl thiophene was performed by addition of ferric chloride (in chloroform) as oxidant to sawdust which had previously been soaked in monomer solution. All the sorption experiments were conducted using dynamic or column system at room temperature. The effect of important parameters such as pH and initial concentration on uptake of Cr(VI) was investigated. In order to find out the possibility of the regeneration and reuse of the exhausted adsorbent, desorption studies were also performed. The currently introduced adsorbent was found to be an efficient adsorbent for removal of highly toxic and hazardous Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions. As our breakthrough analysis has indicated, each gram of P3MTh/SD is able to remove more than 95% of Cr(VI)ions from 300 mL of Cr(VI) polluted solution with the initial concentration of 25 mg L−1 in column system. Sorption/desorption of Cr(VI) ions was found to be a highly pH dependent processes.  相似文献

This paper describes the development and application of the Stochastic Integrated Waste Management Simulator (SIWMS) model. SIWMS provides a detailed view of the environmental impacts and associated costs of municipal solid waste (MSW) management alternatives under conditions of uncertainty. The model follows a life-cycle inventory approach extended with compensatory systems to provide more equitable bases for comparing different alternatives. Economic performance is measured by the net present value. The model is verified against four publicly available models under deterministic conditions and then used to study the impact of uncertainty on Sydney’s MSW management ‘best practices’. Uncertainty has a significant effect on all impact categories. The greatest effect is observed in the global warming category where a reversal of impact direction is predicted. The reliability of the system is most sensitive to uncertainties in the waste processing and disposal. The results highlight the importance of incorporating uncertainty at all stages to better understand the behaviour of the MSW system.  相似文献

Green supply chain management has emerged as an important organizational philosophy to reduce environmental risks. We develop a model of the drivers affecting the implementation of green supply chain management using an Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) framework. The various drivers of green supply chain management (GSCM) are identified based on the GSM literature and on consultations with experts in the industry. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the environmental and metrological variables and cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) transmission and its prediction in a region susceptible to this disease prevalence using a time series model. The accurate locations of 4437 CL diagnosed from 2011 to 2015 were obtained to be used in the time series model. Temperature, number of days with temperature over 30 °C, and number of earthquake were related to CL incidence using the Seasonal Auto-correlated Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) model according to the Box-Jenkins method. In addition, the relationship between land use and surface soil type in 500- and 1000-m radius around the CL patients were investigated. The SARIMA models showed significant associations between environmental and meteorological variables and CL incidence adjusted for seasonality and auto-correlation. The result indicated that there are need more robust preventive programs in earthquake-prone areas with high temperature and inceptisol soil type than other areas. In addition, the region with these characteristics should be considered as high-risk areas for CL prevalence.  相似文献

Chlorine has been utilized in the early stages of water treatment processes as disinfectant. Disinfection for drinking water reduces the risk of pathogenic infection but may pose a chemical threat to human health due to disinfection residues and their by-products (DBP) when the organic and inorganic precursors are present in water. In the last two decades, many modeling attempts have been made to predict the occurrence of DBP in drinking water. Models have been developed based on data generated in laboratory-scale and field-scale investigations. The objective of this paper is to develop a predictive model for DBP formation in the Alexandria governorate located at the northern west of Egypt based on field-scale investigations as well as laboratory-controlled experimentations. The present study showed that the correlation coefficient between trihalomethanes (THM) predicted and THM measured was R 2?=?0.88 and the minimum deviation percentage between THM predicted and THM measured was 0.8 %, the maximum deviation percentage was 89.3 %, and the average deviation was 17.8 %, while the correlation coefficient between dichloroacetic acid (DCAA) predicted and DCAA measured was R 2?=?0.98 and the minimum deviation percentage between DCAA predicted and DCAA measured was 1.3 %, the maximum deviation percentage was 47.2 %, and the average deviation was 16.6 %. In addition, the correlation coefficient between trichloroacetic acid (TCAA) predicted and TCAA measured was R 2?=?0.98 and the minimum deviation percentage between TCAA predicted and TCAA measured was 4.9 %, the maximum deviation percentage was 43.0 %, and the average deviation was 16.0 %.  相似文献

Taurine is one of the most abundant sulpho-amino acids in the body. Hypertaurinemia has already been reported following different stress states. A previous study demonstrated a significant increase of serum taurine concentration in heroin addicts. Therefore, we hypothesized that taurine could be a possible biomarker of recovery during detoxification from opiates. For this purpose, 30 heroin addicts who went under the 5-day heroin detoxification process were recruited for the study. Three blood samples (5 mL each) were taken from each patient in the first, third, and fifth days. They were collected in heparinized glass tubes and after centrifuging, the plasma was separated and kept in the ?20°C freezer until analysis using a previously developed HPLC method with fluorescence detection. The data were statistically analyzed using the Student t-test and ANOVA. Plasma taurine concentration in addicts was significantly more than that of the healthy controls (p < 0.0001). However, there were no changes in the plasma taurine concentration in the addicts during the 5-day study period (p > 0.05). Therefore, we can conclude that the plasma taurine concentration could not be considered as a biomarker of recovery in a 5-day detoxification period of heroin addiction.  相似文献

Gungor and Gupta [1999, Issues in environmentally conscious manufacturing and product recovery: a survey. Computers and Industrial Engineering, 36(4), 811–853] presented an important review of the development of research in Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing and Product Recovery (ECMPRO) and provided a state of the art survey of published work. However, that survey covered most papers published through 1998. Since then, a lot of activity has taken place in EMCPRO and several areas have become richer. Many new areas also have emerged. In this paper we primarily discuss the evolution of ECMPRO that has taken place in the last decade and discuss the new areas that have come into focus during this time. After presenting some background information, the paper systematically investigates the literature by classifying over 540 published references into four major categories, viz., environmentally conscious product design, reverse and closed-loop supply chains, remanufacturing, and disassembly. Finally, we conclude by summarizing the evolution of ECMPRO over the past decade together with the avenues for future research.  相似文献

Natural dye is environment-friendly which is usually extracted from vegetative material. In this work, the wastewater of madder dyebath is reused for wool dyeing. Initially, the madder absorption behavior on wool fiber is determined by new methods based on spectroscopic information of dye solution. The absorbance spectra change is explained in terms of absorbability of chemical components of madder on wool by using several techniques such as principal component analysis, colorimetry, statistical and derivative spectroscopy techniques. The obtained results indicate that the chemical components of the initial dye solution are different from those remaining in the exhausted dye solution. In reusing wastewater of wool dyeing with madder, the exhausted dyebath is reconstructed by adding madder and water. The analyzing color parameter and fastness properties of samples indicate that the quality of samples dyed in reconstructed dyebath is the same as initial wool dyeing. The economic analysis shows that the reusing wastewater caused 19.91% cost saving in wool dyeing with madder.  相似文献

The textile industry, as recognized conformist and stake industry in the world’s economy, is facing serious environmental challenges. In numerous industries, in practice, various chemical-based processes from initial sizing to final washing are fascinating harsh environment concerns. Some of these chemicals are corrosive to equipment and cause serious damage itself. Therefore, in the twenty-first century, chemical and allied industries quest a paradigm transition from traditional chemical-based concepts to a greener, sustainable, and environmentally friendlier catalytic alternative, both at the laboratory and industrial scales. Bio-based catalysis offers numerous benefits in the context of biotechnological industry and environmental applications. In recent years, bio-based processing has received particular interest among the scientist for inter- and multi-disciplinary investigations in the areas of natural and engineering sciences for the application in biotechnology sector at large and textile industries in particular. Different enzymatic processes such as chemical substitution have been developed or in the process of development for various textile wet processes. In this context, the present review article summarizes current developments and highlights those areas where environment-friendly enzymatic textile processing might play an increasingly important role in the textile industry. In the first part of the review, a special focus has been given to a comparative discussion of the chemical-based “classical/conventional” treatments and the modern enzyme-based treatment processes. Some relevant information is also reported to identify the major research gaps to be worked out in future.  相似文献

Fly ash has potential application in the construction of base liners for waste containment facilities. While most of the fly ashes improve in the strength with curing, the ranges of permeabilities they attain may often not meet the basic requirement of a liner material. An attempt has been made in the present context to reduce the hydraulic conductivity by adding lime content up to 10% to two selected samples of class F fly ashes. The use of gypsum, which is known to accelerate the unconfined compressive strength by increasing the lime reactivity, has been investigated in further improving the hydraulic conductivity. Hydraulic conductivities of the compacted specimens have been determined in the laboratory using the falling head method. It has been observed that the addition of gypsum reduces the hydraulic conductivity of the lime treated fly ashes. The reduction in the hydraulic conductivity of the samples containing gypsum is significantly more for samples with high amounts of lime contents (as high as 1000 times) than those fly ashes with lower amounts of lime. However there is a relatively more increase in the strengths of the samples with the inclusion of gypsum to the fly ashes at lower lime contents. This is due to the fact that excess lime added to fly ash is not effectively converted into pozzolanic compounds. Even the presence of gypsum is observed not to activate these reactions with excess lime. On the other hand the higher amount of lime in the presence of sulphate is observed to produce more cementitious compounds which block the pores in the fly ash. The consequent reduction in the hydraulic conductivity of fly ash would be beneficial in reducing the leachability of trace elements present in the fly ash when used as a base liner.  相似文献
