This paper presents a digitized version of a thermodynamic sorption database, implemented as a relational database with MS Access. It is mineral-specific and can therefore be used for additive models of complex solid phases such as rocks or soils. An integrated user interface helps users to access selected mineral and sorption data, to extract internally consistent data sets for sorption modeling, and to export them in formats suitable for other modeling software. Data records comprise mineral properties, specific surface area values, surface binding sites' characteristics, sorption ligand information, and surface complexation reactions. An extensive bibliography is included, providing links not only to the above listed data, but also to background information concerning surface complexation model theories, evidence for surface species, and sorption experimental techniques.  相似文献

The article focuses on fossil energy resources in the Andean Group and Mexico, and argues for a dynamic approach to calculating reserves to production ratios. Individual countries are surveyed in terms of estimated reserves of fossil energy resources, current production rates and future prospects; energy policy options for individual countries are analysed. As a primary objective of energy policy is to ensure security of supply, it is important that calculations of reserves to production ratios accurately estimate the desired level of investment in exploration. The calculations need to take into account a variety of parameters, including different energy sources, availability and risk; geographic considerations including proximity, transport, storage capacity and commercial aspects; the competitive and environmental implications of developing indigenous resources; and the use of instruments to establish contingency plans for emergencies.

Nitric oxide (NO) is an intermediate of denitrification process and can be produced by denitrifiers, nitrifiers and other bacteria. In our experiments we measured the dynamic flow of NO depending on oxidation reduction potential (ORP). Different ORP-ranges were related to various carbon loading stages in the wastewater treatment pilot plant. Nitrification and denitrification were achieved by a sequence of aeration and non-aeration periods. Our measurements show that different carbon loading conditions (low feed, balanced and overloaded conditions) did not change the range of the mixing ratio of NO emissions when the aeration conditions like air-flow and temperature were kept constant. Minimum and maximum NO mixing ratios were 34.7 and 91.8 ppbv; 52.3 and 91.3 ppbv; 57.6 and 109 ppbv for low feed, balanced and overloaded conditions, respectively. The curve of the NO graph relied on nitrification/denitrification dynamics. The dependence of NO release on different ORP and CO2-release during the various conditions are shown. Longer aeration times resulted in an increased release of gaseous NO. The net-release of NO g(-1) nitrogen removed was between 0.014% and 0.028%. The NO fluxes to the air were observed between 8.3 and 14.9 mg m(-2) d(-1) NO. The major release occurred during high aeration periods whereas the concentration of dissolved [NOaq] in the wastewater was less than 0.05% of the gaseous release due to very low solubility of the NO.  相似文献

Mechanical oscillations as well as electrical oscillations (e.g. in an electrical oscillatory circuit) can lead to resonance conditions by external agitation with the natural frequency of the system. During the microbial protein synthesis, the induction and repression mechanisms also cause oscillations in the form of varying protein concentrations. The aim of this work concentrates on an induced resonance case of the biological system, comparable with physical resonance phenomena, by external periodic stimulations. For this, system theoretical computer simulations with a structured genetic model were carried out, which built the theoretical fundament for describing the effect of 'Biological Resonance'. Based on that, lab-scale experiments using a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) and skimmed milk as an inducing substrate revealed an enhanced microbial productivity of around 60%-75% compared to values of the productivity under steady-state conditions in a narrow range of process parameters. The optimum (resonance case) was confirmed by a repetition of the variation experiments and is characterised by a substrate supply period of approx. 18 min and a following starvation period of about 9 min. Long-term investigations under optimised process conditions indicate adaptation mechanisms of the microorganisms to evade the imposed stress conditions. The productivity will not remain constant without additional stimulation and declines to its original level. However, temporal modulation of the starvation period permanently increases the productivity (elevated catabolism) to about 60%, which was observed over a period of several weeks.  相似文献
