Software is a key factor in the functioning of today’s world. Software is supposed to have some characteristics such as: reliability, security, etc., but it is not at all easy to find energy efficiency considered as being one of software’s most important features. Aspects related to Green Software have begun to be considered vital and basic, due to pressure from a society which is becoming more and more aware of environmental problems. In this paper we want to explore whether software companies, responsible for developing software, are aligning their strategies with environmental concerns. To do so, we have checked the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies of the ten most important software companies and looked at these documents with reference to the UN’s sustainable development goals. A well-defined method for carrying out the analysis of the CSR policies led the authors to identify which of the sustainability actions proposed can be classified within any of the software sustainability dimensions. The analysis of these actions shows that sustainability is considered in most of the companies; nonetheless, most attention is currently devoted to hardware-based initiatives intended to reduce the carbon footprint of the hardware resources of the companies. In addition, green software initiatives are still not the priority, despite the influence of software on energy consumption, and in spite of its impact on the environment. Using the set of actions selected, a set of specific actions for software sustainability, to be included in the CSR of software companies, has been defined.  相似文献

Phenol degradation by Photo-Fenton reaction has been studied in highly concentrated wastewaters and most intermediate species have been identified by Fourier Transform IR-Spectroscopy with ATR device. During the photodegradation of highly concentrated phenol solutions, the formation of dissolved and precipitate tannin has been observed. The possibility of a Fe3+-Pyrogallol complex formation, previous to the tannin formation, has been proposed too. The complex formation involving Fe3+ ions could be related to the observed Photo-Fenton activity decrease. Tannin formation inhibits the complete mineralization of phenol because *OH radicals attack will produce further condensation steps and the polymer size increase. This fact limits the applicability of the process for highly concentrated phenolic wastes mineralization. However, the tannin precipitation allows its separation from the solution by conventional filtration, and reduction of the corresponding dissolved organic carbon. These observations have been proved from the identification of primary degradation products, catechol and hydroquinone. Catechol is considered to be the first step for the formation of tannins. Degradation process for phenol, catechol and hydroquinone have been monitored by total organic carbon (TOC) measurements along the reaction time span. From these results, a global mechanism for the Photo-Fenton degradation of phenol is proposed.  相似文献

A study of the desorption of atrazine (1-chloro-3-ethylamino-5-isopropylamino-2,4,6-triazine) and linuron [1-methoxy-1-methyl-3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)urea] adsorbed on soils with different organic matter (OM) and clay contents was conducted in water and in the presence of the non-ionic surfactant Triton X-100 at different concentrations. The aim was to gain insight into soil characteristics in surfactant-enhanced desorption of herbicides from soils. Adsorption and desorption isotherms in water, in all Triton X-100 solutions for atrazine, and in solutions of 0.75 times the critical micelle concentration (cmc) and 1.50cmc for linuron fit the Freundlich equation. All desorption isotherms showed hysteresis. Hysteresis coefficients decreased for linuron and increased or decreased for atrazine in Triton X-100 solutions. These variations were dependent on surfactant concentration and soil OM and clay contents. In the soil-water-surfactant system desorption of linuron from all soils was always greater than in the soil-water system but for atrazine this only occurred at concentrations higher than 50cmc. For the highest Triton X-100 concentration (100cmc), the desorption of the most hydrophobic herbicide (linuron) was increased more than 18-fold with respect to water in soil with an OM content of 10.3% while the atrazine desorption was increased 3-fold. The effect of Triton X-100 on the desorption of both herbicides was very low in soil with a high clay content. The results indicate the potential use of Triton X-100 to facilitate the desorption of these herbicides from soil to the water-surfactant system. They also contribute to better understanding of the interactions of different molecules and surfaces in the complex soil-herbicide-water surfactant system.  相似文献

The relationships between macrobenthic subtidal community structure and the status of sediment pollution were analysed at 24 sampling stations in the Montevideo coastal zone. In order to judge the status of community perturbation a phylum-level meta-analysis was applied to the production data from the Montevideo coastal zone samples alone and combined with the original training data set from 50 samples collected on the NE European shelf. The community was dominated by the gastropod Heleobia cf. australis. The MDS (multi-dimensional scaling) ordination with abundance data (species-level) and the MDS ordination with production data (phylum level), using only our samples, showed the formation of three groups of stations. Results of the BIO-ENV procedure showed that lead, salinity and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were the variables that best explained the biological pattern observed. However, a clear salinity gradient was observed from the inner stations of Montevideo Bay to the outer coastal stations; the high levels of Pb, PAH and Cr concentrations recorded at stations B, C and D in Montevideo Bay were important in discriminating these locations from the others. The MDS ordination combining the production data from the 24 samples from the Montevideo coastal zone with the original data set showed correct assessment of the pollution status for the 24 samples from Montevideo on a common scale of perturbation. The separation of the Montevideo coastal zone samples seems to be mainly due to the high proportion of molluscs. Our results suggest general applicability of the phylum-level meta-analysis approach, even in such cases as this, with high dominance of only one phylum; however, more studies are still necessary.Communicated by O. The process of analyzing vegetation in terms of its suitability for various non-consumptive uses is primitive in comparison with systems for evaluating other resources such as soil and topography. This paper proposes a framework for developing a standardized, quantitative vegetation analysis system based on plant ecology methods. Concentration levels, seasonal variation and winter/summer ratios of 11 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the TSP of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city were determined. The study area is under the influence of heavy traffic (80000 vehicles/day). Pyr/BaA, Pyr/Flt, B(ghi)P/I(cd)P and B(b+k)F/B(ghi)P ratios were calculated; the values of these two last suggest a strong influence of diesel fuel burning. Levels of TSP and TSP-bound PAHs were also established. The hazard potential of PAHs in terms of carcinogenicity of BaP is acceptable. Potential risk on the basis of TEFs is also studied.  相似文献

Distribution of mercury in the aquatic environment at Almadén,Spain   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The world's largest mercury mine is placed at Almadén, Spain. However, there is a lack of information about the environmental impact of these mining activities in the ecosystem that surrounds this area. The aim of this article is to document the concentration of mercury in waters, sediments and bivalves of the aquatic system impacted by historic mine wastes. Simultaneously, a comprehensive study has been undertaken to characterise this hydrosystem and to determine the influence of some major physico-chemical parameters on the fate of mercury. Samplings were carried out for the last few years. Concentration of mercury in waters ranged from not detectable to 20 microg/l. For the sediments study, samples have been taken both from contaminated and non-contaminated sites within the basin. The regional background mercury concentration is higher than values typically cited for natural backgrounds. At exposed sites the mercury concentrations between 5 and 1000 microg/g were measured. These values are one to four order of magnitude greater than regional background levels. In the comparison between the results obtained at the present moment and those available for the 1974-1977 period, a general diminution of mercury levels is observed. Mercury concentrations in fresh water bivalves ranged between 1 and 4 microg/g (d.w.), with around 30% as monomethylmercury. In the discussion of the implications for risk assessment data available for other areas affected both for mine activities and mercuriferous belt are included.  相似文献

It is commonly believed that we humans are justified in exploiting animals because we are higher beings:persons who have highly complex, autonomous lives as moral agents. However, there are many marginal humans who are not and never will be persons. Those who think it is permissible to exploit animal nonpersons but wrong to do the same to human nonpersons must show that there is a morally relevant difference between the two groups. Speciesists, who believe that membership in a species whose normal adults are persons is sufficient for a right to life, attempt to do just this. As the failure of the best arguments which can be marshalled on their behalf indicates, they are unable to justify their view. I conclude that, although there is a morally relevant difference between human nonpersons and most animal nonpersons, this difference is not an indication of superior moral status. We would do better to abandon speciesism and the assumption thatpersonhood is morally paramount for a view which implies that both human and nonhuman nonpersons are morally considerable and have a right to life.  相似文献

A cellulose bleaching effluent (E1) was degraded in batch conditions by photocatalysis using TiO2 and ZnO supported on glass Raschig rings. The effluent was completely decolourised and the total phenol content was reduced by 85% after 120 min treatment with both catalysts. Partial mineralization of the organic matter was confirmed by total organic carbon (TOC) reduction, approximately 50%. The residual organic matter shows a low acute toxicity as compared to the initial values and AOX values are strongly reduced after the photocatalytic oxidation. Molecular mass distribution showed that high molecular mass compounds were almost completely degraded.  相似文献
