The relationship between people and places is characterized by affective and cognitive dimensions, defined, respectively, as place attachment and identification. This paper aims at clarifying differences between place attachment and identification by (1) identifying their predictors in a structural equation model and (2) exploring their association with the environmental perception. To this purpose, we conducted a research on a sample of 328 residents of a city in the north of Italy. Results show that the affective and the cognitive dimensions (1) are directly predicted by different demographical and psychosocial variables and (2) are strictly associated to the perception of the place and its inhabitants. Place attachment and identification are two distinct but correlated components. Semantic contents related to the environmental perception are described in respect to different levels of attachment and identification. 相似文献

Periodic assessment of progress toward established policy goals is crucial to understanding whether the applied efforts are
effective. In Europe, the Water Framework Directive (WFD) adopted in year 2000 set ambitious environmental objectives to be
achieved by the end of 2015 through the implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles. While at
this stage it is premature to measure the impact of this Directive in terms of environmental outcomes, it is nonetheless important
to develop indicators in order to monitor whether water management practices throughout Europe are aligning towards IWRM.
This article presents the methodological development of the Water and Wetland Index, a comparative water policy assessment
by environmental NGOs that was carried out in 2002–2003, and highlights the interest of repeating it in 2015, when the first

Animal wastes from intensive pig farming as fertilizers may expose crops to antimicrobials. Zea mays cultivations were carried out on a virgin field, subjected to dressing with pig slurries contaminated at 15 mg L−1 of Oxy- and 5 mg L−1 of Chlor-tetracycline, and at 8 mg L−1 of Oxy and 3 mg L−1 of Chlor, respectively. Pot cultivation was performed outdoor (Oxy in the range 62.5-1000 ng g−1 dry soil) and plants harvested after 45 days. Tetracyclines analyses on soils and on field plants (roots, stalks, and leaves) did not determine the appreciable presence of tetracyclines. Residues were found in the 45-day pot corn only, in the range of 1-50 ng g−1 for Oxy in roots, accounting for a 5% carry-over rate, on average. Although no detectable residues in plants from on land cultivations, both experimental batches showed the same biphasic growth form corresponding to a dose/response hormetic curve. 相似文献

Metal (i.e. Ag, As, Ca, Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Pb and Zn) and metallothionein (MT) concentrations in the soft tissue of Littorina littorea were measured along the heavily polluted Western Scheldt (WS) and relatively clean Eastern Scheldt (ES) estuary. Along the WS metal and MT levels in periwinkles reflected the known downstream decreasing pollution gradient. Surprisingly in ES animals As, Mn and Zn concentrations decreased from east to west reflecting past pollution. Compared to the WS metal concentrations of ES periwinkles were significantly lower and both estuaries were maximally discriminated from each other based on their Cd soft tissue concentration using a canonical discriminant analysis. Furthermore, no overall difference was found in MT levels among animals from both estuaries. Using previously obtained condition data (i.e. dry/wet weight ratio and lipid content) the relation between soft tissue metal concentration (i.e. Cd, Cu and Zn) and fitness indicators (i.e. MT and condition data) was examined using a canonical correlation analysis. In this study we tested and compared a multiplicative stomatal model and a coupled semi-empirical stomatal-photosynthesis model in their ability to predict stomatal conductance to ozone (gst) using leaf-level data from oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) and broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica Plenck). For oilseed rape, the multiplicative model and the coupled model were able to explain 72% and 73% of the observed gst variance, respectively. For broccoli, the models were able to explain 53% and 51% of the observed gst variance, respectively. These results support the coupled semi-empirical stomatal-photosynthesis model as a valid alternative to the multiplicative stomatal model for O3 flux modelling, in terms of predictive performance. 相似文献

The status of wild capture fisheries has induced many fisheries and conservation scientists to express concerns about the
concept of using forage fish after reduction to fishmeal and fish oil, as feed for farmed animals, particularly in aquaculture.
However, a very large quantity of forage fish is being also used untransformed (fresh or frozen) globally for other purposes,
such as the pet food industry. So far, no attempts have been made to estimate this quantum, and have been omitted in previous
fishmeal and fish oil exploitation surveys. On the basis of recently released data on the Australian importation of fresh
or frozen fish for the canned cat food industry, here we show that the estimated amount of raw fishery products directly utilized
by the cat food industry equates to 2.48 million metric tonnes per year. This estimate, plus the previously reported global
fishmeal consumption for the production of dry pet food suggest that 13.5% of the total 39.0 million tonnes of wild caught
forage fish is used for purposes other than human food production. This study attempts to bring forth information on the direct
use of fresh or frozen forage fish in the pet food sector that appears to have received little attention to this date and
that needs to be considered in the global debate on the ethical nature of current practices on the use of forage fish, a limited

Spatial concentration distribution of a chemical in an indoor environment is an important factor in the evaluation of chemical nuisances. However, straightforward techniques for the determination of this distribution are not very common and usually limited in their application. Sorptive sampling using polydimethylsiloxane-coated stir bars and the combination of active and diffusive sampling were shown to allow uncomplicated spatial concentration profiling of multiple compounds in an indoor environment. The validity of the approach was demonstrated in the analysis of the spatial concentration distribution of a pyrethroid insecticide in a common bedroom. The relative concentrations of allethrin and piperonyl butoxide were profiled throughout the room upon the application of an insecticide vaporizer. 相似文献

Dioxin analysis in food and feed can be characterized as an analytical application where very high accuracy is required at very low levels of contamination. Gas chromatography (GC) in combination with 13C-label isotope dilution (ID) high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) is the reference congener-specific technique characterized by pronounced selectivity, precision and trueness at parts-per-trillion (ppt) and sub-parts-per-trillion (sub-ppt) levels. The quality of the analytical data produced routinely by a laboratory should be adequate for its intended purpose, i.e., one will seek a compromise between the cost and time needed and the consequences of incorrect decisions due to erroneous results. The requirements for reproducibility are usually dependent on the analyte concentrations and have been expressed in various empirical functions. While Horwitz or modified functions are widely useful for many purposes, it would be difficult to expect these functions to cover every analytical problem. This study reports on precision characteristics achieved by the GC-ID-HRMS reference method for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL-PCBs) in food and feed in two interlaboratory method-performance studies among expert laboratories with long-standing experience in this field. Striking linear functions in log scale between reproducibility standard deviation and congener's level over a concentration range of 10(-8)-10(-14)g per g fresh weight are observed. The data fit very well to a Horwitz-type function of the form sR=0.153c0.904, where sR and c are dimensionless mass ratios expressed in pg g(-1) on fresh weight, regardless of the nature of the toxic congeners, food and feed matrices, or sample preparation methods. We demonstrate that the proposed function is suitable for use as a fitness-for-purpose criterion for proficiency assessment in interlaboratory comparisons on dioxins and related compounds in food. 相似文献

Seafood represents a natural source of valuable nutrients (e.g., long chain omega-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFAs), vitamin D, and iodine), but the favourable health perception is troubled by the presence of contaminants (e.g., PCBs, dioxin-like compounds, and (methyl) mercury (MeHg)). This dualism forms the basis for an important public health conflict. The objective of this study was to calculate and evaluate the simultaneous intake of multiple beneficial and harmful compounds (LC n-3 PUFAs, vitamin D, iodine, (Me)Hg, PCBs, and dioxin-like compounds) via seafood consumption in Belgium. A methodology and a software module were developed for executing probabilistic assessments of the simultaneous intake of multiple compounds leading to better insight in the problematic nature of food items involving both health benefits and risks. The simulations concerning seafood consumption in Belgium predicted that, as far as only seafood consumption is concerned, the considered populations do not reach a sufficiently high intake for the three nutrients considered (LC n-3 PUFAs, vitamin D, and iodine). Regarding the contaminants, (Me)Hg contamination of seafood on the Belgian market does not seem to be an issue of major toxicological concern. In contrast, for dioxin-like compounds the tolerable daily intake is reached by people with high seafood consumption. 相似文献
