The ocypodid crab Ilyoplax pingi, observed in Kanghwa I., Korea in 1992, builds a mound at the burrow entrance, by piling mud dug out from the burrow. The mounds were made by both waving and non-waving males, and by both ovigerous and non-ovigerous females. The burrow diameter at the widest part tended to be larger in crabs with mounds than in crabs without mounds, whereas the burrow depth was not different between them. The mound density increased in the late exposure period, when the crabs' surface activities declined. Mound removal and rebuilding experiments revealed that the presence of the mounds has the effect of keeping neighboring crabs away.  相似文献

Carcasses of Calanus cristatus were discovered in plankton samples collected from the Japan Sea throughout the year from 1970 to 1985. Many carcasses of copepodite Stages IV and V occurred in the layer between 15 and 300 m below a distinct thermocline. The number of copepodite Stage V carcasses also peaked in the layer between 1 500 and 2 000 m. The highest density of copepodite Stages IV and V carcasses was 169 individuals per 1 000 m3 and 1 573 individuals per 1 000 m3, respectively. Carcasses of adults occurred at depths below 500 m and numbers of males and females per 1 000 m3 were 1 to 16 and 1 to 42, respectively. Living males were larger in catch number than living females, but the relationship for carcasses was the opposite. Weight of carcasses was 15 to 25% of living C. cristatus. Carcasses contained about 51% carbon and 8% nitrogen by weight. Carcasses may have been drifting for more than one year in the epipelagic layer under the thermocline because of their slow decomposition rate.  相似文献

Five field surveys were conducted in an estuarine intertidal sandflat of the Seto Inland Sea (Japan) between April 1994 and April 1995. Chlorophyll a, pheopigments, total organic carbon and acid-volatile sulphides (AVS) of surface and subsurface sediments, and macrofaunal assemblages were investigated in parallel at 15 stations. Monthly hydrological data of low-tide creek water adjacent to the flat were used as a complementary environmental characterisation of the study area. Strong temporal changes were found among sampling dates, most remarkably in autumn with a major increase of algal detritus and AVS, a sharp reduction in macrofaunal abundances and species richness, and a massive mortality of the clam Ruditapes philippinarum. This dystrophic event was preceded by a photoautotrophic and hypertrophic spring–summer characterized by abundant fresh (i.e., living) algal material, including microphytobenthos and macroalgae (Ulva sp.). In summer, abundant macrofaunal assemblages reached the highest biomass values (455 g wet weight m−2 or 60.6 g ash free dry weight m−2), with a major contribution of filter-feeding bivalves Musculista senhousia and R. philippinarum. These are among the highest values reported in the literature for sedimentary shores. From autumn, there was a progressive recolonisation of macrofauna, initiated by few opportunistic polychaetes (e.g., Cirriformia tentaculata and Polydora sp.), apparently promoting a fast sediment recovery in winter, and followed by new bivalve recruits in the next spring. This study provides the first evidence of significant and interlinked within-year changes in chemical characteristics of sediments and macrofaunal assemblages in an estuarine intertidal flat at a small spatial scale (i.e., tens of meters). This demonstrates the high temporal variability of species–environment relations in these systems and a close relationship in seasonally driven trophodynamic processes among primary producers and benthic consumers. We conclude that a thorough parallel evaluation of the temporal changes in chemical characteristics of sediments should be taken into account in assessing the year-round distribution and changes of intertidal macrofauna, particularly in eutrophic, estuarine intertidal flats.An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

Air pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), their nitrated derivatives (NPAHs), and some metals on airborne particles in Nagasaki city, Japan were determined over a period of 12 months by high-performance liquid chromatography with chemiluminescence, fluorescence and flameless atomic absorption spectrometry. The average concentrations (range) were 18.24 (4.07-41.54) ng/m3 for total PAHs, 0.91 (0.23-4.10) pg/m3 for NPAHs, 7.95 (1.71-16.31) ng/m3 for Pb, 11.56 (3.35-24.96) ng/m3 for Mn and 3.79 (0.97-14.71) ng/m3 for Ni (n = 136). The toxic equivalency factors adjusted concentration of total PAHs determined in Nagasaki city area was 2.33 ng/m3. Concentrations of total PAHs and NPAHs in winter were higher than those in summer. In a weekly variations study, total PAHs and NPAHs concentrations, as well as traffic volume showed a similar tendency with all values higher during weekdays and lower at the weekend. The correlation coefficients between total PAHs or NPAHs and traffic volume were 0.781 and 0.818, respectively. These results suggested that one of the main sources for NPAHs and PAHs in a city area might be motor vehicles.  相似文献

The photodechlorination pathways of 3,3′,4,5,5′-pentachlorobiphenyl (3,3′,4,5,5′-PentaCB) and the related lower polychlorinated biphenyl congeners irradiated at 254 nm in alkaline 2-propanol were elucidated. Steric effect is the most important factor for controlling the dechlorination pattern of these substrates. Electronic effect also influences the photoreactivity of chlorine substituents.  相似文献

This study investigated the level of norovirus contamination in oysters collected at a lagoon receiving urban drainage from Hue City for 17 months (August 2015–December 2016). We also investigated the genetic diversity of norovirus GI and GII in oyster and wastewater samples by using pyrosequencing to evaluate the effect of urban drainage on norovirus contamination of oysters. A total of 34 oyster samples were collected at two sampling sites (stations A and B) in a lagoon. Norovirus GI was more frequently detected than GII (positive rate 79 vs. 41%). Maximum concentrations of GI and GII were 2.4 × 105 and 2.3 × 104 copies/g, respectively. Co-contamination with GI and GII was observed in 35% of samples. Norovirus GII concentration was higher at station A in the flood season than in the dry season (P = 0.04, Wilcoxon signed-rank test). Six genotypes (GI.2, GI.3, GI.5, GII.2, GII.3, and GII.4) were identified in both wastewater and oyster samples, and genetically similar or identical sequences were obtained from the two types of samples. These observations suggest that urban drainage and seasonal flooding contribute to norovirus contamination of oysters in the study area.  相似文献

Body size during larval development is one of the most important attributes of aquatic animals. The optimal size for changing form or habitat may vary according to ecological traits of species, while phylogenetic constraints also play a significant role. The major goal of this study is to reveal the patterns in the settlement size of planktotrophic larvae in an archaic gastropod superorder Neritimorpha. We take advantage of the fact that size at various ontogenetic stages of neritimorphs can be rigorously estimated by measuring features of the adult opercula. This unique feature of neritimorphs has allowed us to generate the largest data set so far on larval settlement sizes within a group of marine invertebrates that recruit into very different post-metamorphic habitats. Eighty-eight species that represent most extant genera from rocky shores, seagrass beds, mangroves, estuaries, streams, submarine caves, deep-sea vents or seeps showed negligible intraspecific variation and considerable interspecific differences in settlement size, particularly between genera or families. Settlement size is determined primarily by phylogenetic constraints, while parallel evolution toward smaller sizes was shown to occur exclusively in four independent clades (two living and two extinct) of amphidromous snails with a marine larval period followed by a limnic adult phase. The smaller settlement size may possibly reduce the risk of being wafted away from the estuaries of their natal streams through less time achieving metamorphic competence, while ability to make occasional long-distance trips is retained by the presence of a sufficiently long delay period. This delay period also seems to obscure the possible correlation between settlement size and geographic distribution range of neritimorph species, both fully marine and amphidromous.  相似文献

The total organic halogen (TOX) pollution in the highly polluted Ayase River system was investigated. Using the concentration of coexisting linear undecylbenzenesulfonate and the difference in the flowing water volume between summer and winter, the fractions of domestic and agricultural wastewaters in the whole water column were calculated and the variety of the TOX sources in the river was estimated. The river carried about 100 kgCl of TOX materials in one day; about 50 kgCl of the materials was from residential area in the basin. The contribution of agricultural drainage from paddy field was not negligible in summer. Highly contribution of industrial wastewater was observed in a tributary Furuayase River basin while the amount of TOX loaded in the area was widely varied; 0–105 kgCl of the materials was discharged as industrial wastewater.  相似文献

In order to obtain a better understanding of the non-ideal detonation behaviour of ammonium nitrate based explosives, detonation velocities of ANFO (ammonium nitrate and fuel oil) prepared with different kinds of ammonium nitrate (AN) were measured in steel tubes. In this series of test six kinds of AN were used and the influence of the pore diameter, the pore volume and the particle diameter of the AN particle on the detonation velocity of ANFO was investigated.

It was found that the pore diameter and the pore volume had a strong influence on the detonation velocities of ANFO. In the case of ANFO samples which were prepared with AN that had the same pore diameter and the pore volume, when tested the highest detonation velocity (3.85 km/s) was observed when the smallest particle diameter (<0.85 mm) was used. This value corresponded to 75% of the ideal detonation velocity, which was theoretically predicted by the CHEETAH code with the JCZ3-EOS.

The 12 months aging showed the change of the detonation velocities of ANFO and the reaction of ANFO was influenced both by the physical and the chemical properties of AN particles and oil during the storage period.  相似文献

The Japanese government is planning to introduce DME as a substituted energy for oil and LNG. Introduction of DME could contribute greatly to both the prevention of global warming and the formation of resource-recycling societies. In these circumstances, a safety assessment of DME is very important when DME is used on a large scale. There is a possibility that prolonged exposure in air induces autoxidation to produce explosive organic peroxides during transportation and storage of DME. Therefore, the reactivity of DME with oxygen and the mechanism of the autoxidation were investigated. Accelerating Rate Calorimetry (ARC) was used to evaluate the thermal stability of DME and DIPE, a known peroxide producers, under adiabatic and various atmospheric conditions. In ARC studies of DME under oxygen, exothermic decompositions were detected although its self-heating rate was low in comparison with DIPE. Oven storage tests were carried out and iodimetry was used to measure the concentration of peroxides produced from DME in comparison with DIPE and DEE. However, no products could be found for DME either by GC/MS or by iodimetry, while some evidence of autoxidation of both DEE and DIPE were obtained from these experiments.  相似文献
