Based on literature, we identify collaboration drivers and partner features for enhancing vertical and/or horizontal collaboration in the chemicals using industries. We further develop constructs for both types of collaboration. A survey-based analysis within the largest chemical cluster worldwide was carried out to verify and to test our literature-based constructs. Using our empirically based results, we develop and propose a framework for Advancing and Stimulating Collaboration (ASC) in the chemical industry. This framework can be used to increase collaborative arrangements within the chemical industry and thereby lead to more sustainable chemical product and process flows and management practices resulting in more sustainable chemical industrial parks. 相似文献

Observations of copepod feeding and vertical distribution under natural turbulent conditions in the North Sea 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We present results of simultaneous measurements of turbulent-dissipation rate, zooplankton vertical distribution and copepod
gut pigments in the northern North Sea. Analysis shows that some, but not all, copepods (by species, sex and stage) exhibit
significant dependence on turbulence in respect to vertical distribution and feeding rate. Oithona similis (female and copepodite stages) exhibits an avoidance of the surface layer when turbulence is strong there. For the range
of turbulence (10−7 to 10−3 m2 s−3) and ambient chlorophyll concentration (0.5–0.8 μg l−1) encountered, Calanus spp. and Metridia lucens exhibited a significant negative response in feeding-rate index with increasing turbulence. Centropages typicus and Pseudocalanus spp. also exhibited a negative response but of less significance.

Interest in renewable biofuel sources has intensified in recent years, leading to greatly increased production of ethanol
and its primary coproduct, Distillers Dried Grain with Solubles (DDGS). Consequently, the development of new outlets for DDGS
has become crucial to maintaining the economic viability of the industry. In light of these developments, this preliminary
study aimed to determine the suitability of DDGS for use as a biofiller in low-cost composites that could be produced by rapid
prototyping applications. The effects of DDGS content, particle size, curing temperature, and compression on resulting properties,
such as flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, water activity, and color were evaluated for two adhesive bases. The composites
formed with phenolic resin glue were found to be greatly superior to glue in terms of mechanical strength and durability:
resin-based composites had maximum fiber stresses of 150–380 kPa, while glue composites had values between 6 kPa and 35 kPa;
additionally, glue composites experienced relatively rapid microbial growth. In the resin composites, both decreased particle
size and increased compression resulted in increased mechanical strength, while a moderate DDGS content was found to increase
flexural strength but decrease Young’s modulus. These results indicate that DDGS has the potential to be used in resin glue-based
composites to both improve flexural strength and improve potential biodegradability. 相似文献

During austral summer 2006, experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of ultraviolet radiation (UVR, 280–400 nm)
on carbon fixation of natural phytoplankton assemblages from Patagonia (Argentina). Surface water samples were collected (ca.
100 m offshore) at mid morning using an acid-cleaned (1 N HCl) dark container. The short-term impact of UVR (measured as radiocarbon
incorporation) was immediately assessed by exposing samples to three artificial illumination treatments: PAR (400–700 nm),
PAR + UV-A (320–700 nm), and PAR + UV-A + UV-B (280–700 nm). Pico-nanoplankton characterized the assemblages, and taxon-specific
pigment fingerprinting combined with CHEMTAX and supplemented with microscopic observations showed varied proportions of diatoms,
chlorophytes, and cyanobacteria throughout January–February 2006. Photosynthetic efficiency, as assessed through assimilation
numbers, was high [between 4.4 and 10.4 μg C (μg chl-a)−1 h−1], and it was probably favored by the supply of inorganic nutrients from the Chubut River. UVR-induced photoinhibition appeared
to be related to the taxonomic composition: in general, higher photoinhibition was observed when diatoms dominated, whereas
this was lower when samples were dominated by chlorophytes. Our data suggest that xanthophyll pigments might have provided

This paper examines the impact of agriculture-related shocks on consumption patterns of rural farming households using 3 years of data from South Africa. We make two key observations. First, agriculture-related shocks reduce households’ consumption. Second, natural resources and informal social capital somewhat counteract this reduction and sustain dietary requirements. In general, our findings suggest the promotion of informal social capital and natural resources as they are cheaper and more accessible coping strategies, in comparison to, for example, insurance, which remains unaffordable in most rural parts of sub-Saharan Africa. However, a lingering concern centres on the sustainability of these less conventional adaptation strategies. 相似文献

This theoretical study was performed to investigate the influence of soil temperature, soil water content and soil organic carbon fraction on the mobility of monoterpenes (C10HnOn') applied as pesticides to a top soil layer. This mobility was expressed as the amount volatilized and leached from the contaminated soil layer after a certain amount of time. For this, (slightly modified) published analytical solutions to a one dimensional, homogeneous medium, diffusion/advection/biodegradation mass balance equation were used. The required input-parameters were determined in a preceding study. Because the monoterpenes studied differ widely in the values for their physico-chemical properties, the relative importance of the various determinants also differed widely. Increasing soil water saturation reduced monoterpene vaporization and leaching losses although a modest increase was usually observed at high soil water contents. Organic matter served as the major retention domain, reducing volatilization and leaching losses. Increasing temperature resulted in higher volatilization and leaching losses. Monoterpene mobility was influenced by vertical water flow. Volatilization losses could be reduced by adding a clean soil layer on top of the contaminated soil. Detailed insight into the specific behaviour of different monoterpenes was obtained by discussing intermediate calculation results; the transport retardation factors and effective soil diffusion coefficients. One insight was that the air-water interface compartment is probably not an important partitioning domain for monoterpenes in most circumstances.
