Nanoscale zerovalent copper supported on a cation resin was successfully synthesized to enhance the removal of carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) from contaminated water. The use of the cation resin as a support prevents the reduction of surface area due to agglomeration of nanoscale zerovalent copper particles. Moreover, the cation resin recycles the copper ions resulting from the reaction between CCl(4) and Cu(0) by simultaneous ion exchange. The decline in the amount of CCl(4) in aqueous solution results from the combined effects of degradation by nanoscale zerovalent copper and sorption by the cation resin; thus the amount of CCl(4) both in aqueous solution and sorbed onto the resin were measured. The pseudo-first-order rate constant normalized by the surface-area and the mass concentration of nanoscale zerovalent copper (k(SA)) was 2.1+/-0.1 x 10(-2)lh(-1)m(-2), approximately twenty times that of commercial powdered zerovalent copper (0.04 mm). Due to the exchange between Cu(2+) and the strongly acidic ions (H(+) or Na(+)), the pH was between 3 and 4 in unbuffered solution and Cu(2+) at the concentration of less than 0.1 mg l(-1) was measured after the dechlorination reaction. In the above-ground application, resin as a support would facilitate the development of a process that could be designed for convenient emplacement and regeneration of porous reductive medium.  相似文献

This study investigated the benefits of an on-site sustainable solid waste treatment and utilization system for the greenhouse industry. The composts made from greenhouse wastes were tested and found to contain high nutrient values and good physical properties, and could be used as high quality growing media. The finished composts were tested in a greenhouse against the conventional growth media (sawdust) and resulted in a 10% yield increase by using the compost. An economic analysis was conducted to show the economic benefits of on-site composting for a greenhouse operation. Based on a four-hectare tomato or pepper greenhouse, and amortizing the capital equipment over five years, the net annual cost of composting represents a savings of dollars 8,000 annually.  相似文献

The bronchial dosimeter for Rn progeny proposed by Yu and Guan in 1998 was employed to survey the bronchial dose from Rn progeny in 30 residences in Hong Kong. An average bronchial deposition fraction of Rn progeny was obtained as 0.0334, which gave an average dose conversion factor (DCF) of 8.5 mSv WLM-1. The mean values of potential alpha energy concentration (PAEC) deposited in the tracheobronchial region (PAECT-B), total PAEC in air (PAECT), annual effective dose (E), concentration of Rn gas (RC) and annual dose conversion factor (ADCF) for all the residential sites combined were 0.11 +/- 0.05, 3.1 +/- 1.4 mWL, 1.2 +/- 0.5 mSv yr-1, 23 +/- 10 Bq m-3 and 0.055 +/- 0.020 (mSv yr-1 per Bqm-3), respectively, with air-conditioned sites (AC sites) and non-AC sites having significantly different mean ADCF values. The indoor relative humidity affected PAECT and RC with high confidence levels (> 95%).  相似文献

A geometric method based on Langmuir kinetics has been derived to determine adsorption and desorption kinetic constants. In the conventional procedure, either the adsorption kinetic constant (k(a)c) or desorption kinetic constant (k(d)c) is found from kinetic experiments and the other is calculated by their correlation with the equilibrium constant, i.e, k(d)c = Kcon/k(a)c, where Kcon has been known from equilibrium studies. The determined constants (Kcon, k(a)c, k(d)c), if based only on the conventional procedure, may not be accurate due to their mathematical dependence. Therefore, the objectives of this study are applying a geometric approach to directly determine Langmuir kinetic constants and describe adsorption behavior. In this approach, both adsorption kinetic constant (k(a)g) and desorption kinetic constant (k(d)g) are obtained only from data of kinetic experiments, and a geometric equilibrium constant (Kgeo) is calculated by Kgeo = k(a)g/k(d)g. The deviation between Kgeo and Kcon can prove the accuracy of k(a)g and k(d)g which were determined by this method. This approach was applicable to selenate, selenite and Mg2+ adsorption onto SiO2 regardless of whether the adsorbate formed inner- or outer-sphere complexes. However, this method showed some deviation between Kcon and Kgeo for Mn2+ adsorption because of the formation of surface Mn(II)-hydroxide clusters, which was inconsistent with the basic assumption of this method of monolayer adsorption.  相似文献

Hybrid system combines the nature of suspended growth and attached growth has been widely applied to wastewater treatment. In this research, the contributions to N transformation and N2O emission by biofilm and suspended sludge in the hybrid sequencingbatch reactor for a simultaneous nitrification, denitrification and phosphorus removal process were investigated. For the hybrid system, nitrification occurred mostly in the suspended sludge, while the biofilm played the major role in denitrification. The interaction of the biofilm and the suspended sludge in the same reactor resulted in a better overall nitrogen removal performance with simultaneous nitrification and denitrification. However, N2O emission was the main end product of nitrogen removal for the hybrid system; while it was N2 for the biofilm. The relative low N2O emissions from the pure biofilm and the pure suspended sludge corresponded to the relatively high nitrate at the end of the aeration period compared with the hybrid system.  相似文献

Chemical footprints left behind by true bugs are perceived as contact kairomones by scelionid egg parasitoids. Female wasps encountering a contaminated artificial substrate display a characteristic arrestment posture, holding the body motionless and antennating the surface. In the system Nezara viridula (L.) and its egg parasitoid Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston), previous studies have shown that the kairomone mediating such behavior is part of N. viridula’s cuticular hydrocarbons (CHC) and furthermore that the wasp’s ability to discriminate host male and female footprints is mainly based on the presence/absence of nonadecane (nC19). In this study, the effect of epicuticular waxes of leaves of broad bean, Vicia faba, on wasp responses to footprints of N. viridula females were investigated. Approximately 20% of T. basalis females displayed an arrestment posture when released on the adaxial leaf surfaces of broad bean plants with intact wax layer and without host chemical contamination; whereas ∼70% of wasps displayed the arrestment posture when intact leaves were contaminated by host female footprints. Adaxial leaf surfaces of broad bean plants dewaxed with an aqueous solution of gum arabic and afterwards contaminated by N. viridula females induced arrestment responses in about 10% of female wasps; the same percentage of arrestment (10%) was observed when the wasps were released on leaves contaminated by host females and subsequently dewaxed. The side of the polymer film that was appressed to the leaf surface, peeled from the contaminated leaves, induced an arrestment posture in about 95% of observed wasps. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the epicuticular waxes occurred as a film densely crystallized as irregularly shaped platelets with spherical granules randomly distributed. These findings demonstrated that epicuticular waxes of broad bean leaves can mediate the foraging behavior of T. basalis females by absorbing contact kairomones of the host.  相似文献

Microwave-hydrothermal treatment of persistent and bioaccumulative perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in water with persulfate (S2O82−) has been found effective. However, applications of this process to effectively remediate PFOA pollution require a better understanding on free-radical scavenging reactions that also take place. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of pH (pH = 2.5, 6.6, 8.8, and 10.5), chloride concentrations (0.01–0.15 mol·L−1), and temperature (60°C, 90°C, and 130°C) on persulfate oxidation of PFOA under microwave irradiation. Maximum PFOA degradation occurred at pH 2.5, while little or no degradation at pH 10.5. Lowering system pH resulted in an increase in PFOA degradation rate. Both high pH and chloride concentrations would result in more scavenging of sulfate free radicals and slow down PFOA degradation. When chloride concentrations were less than 0.04 mol·L−1 at 90°C and 0.06 mol·L−1 at 60°C, presence of chloride ions had insignificant impacts on PFOA degradation. However, beyond these concentration levels, PFOA degradation rates reduced significantly with an increase in chloride concentrations, especially under the higher temperature.  相似文献

Although trophically transmitted parasites are recognized to strongly influence food-web dynamics through their ability to manipulate host phenotype, our knowledge of their host spectrum is often imperfect. This is particularly true for the facultative paratenic hosts, which receive little interest. We investigated the occurrence and significance both in terms of ecology and evolution of paratenic hosts in the life cycle of the fish acanthocephalan Pomphorhynchus laevis. This freshwater parasite uses amphipods as intermediate hosts and cyprinids and salmonids as definitive hosts. Within a cohort of parasite larvae, usually reported in amphipod intermediate hosts, more than 90% were actually hosted by small-sized fish. We demonstrated experimentally, using one of these fish, that they get infected through the consumption of parasitized amphipods and contribute to the parasite's transmission to a definitive host, hence confirming their paratenic host status. A better knowledge of paratenic host spectrums could help us to understand the fine tuning of transmission strategies, to better estimate parasite biomass, and could improve our perception of parasite subwebs in terms of host-parasite and predator-parasite links.  相似文献

为了阐明湿地植物入侵的机制,选择闽江河口湿地为研究区域,通过野外采样和室内分析,对入侵种互花米草和土著种短叶茳芏根冠生物量、养分在植物体内的分配以及植物养分的生态化学计量学特征进行了测定与分析。结果表明:①互花米草根冠比季节变化范围是0.49~1.64,平均值为1.11,低于短叶茳芏(变化范围是3.11~7.95,平均值为5.29);②互花米草季节平均的氮磷养分分配顺序为叶>根>茎,而土著种短叶茳芏按照叶>茎>根的顺序分配;③互花米草叶、茎季节平均C/N和C/P均表现出高于短叶茳芏,而根则低于短叶茳芏,N/P则均表现为互花米草叶、茎、根高于短叶茳芏;④较高的地上生物量分配、同化器官(叶)和繁殖器官(根)养分分配以及C/N、C/P和N/P是互花米草得以成功入侵的主要原因之一。  相似文献
