A pot experiment and a leaching experiment were conducted to investigate the effects of earthworms and pig manure on heavy metals (Cd, Pb, and Zn) immobility, in vitro bioaccessibility and leachability under simulated acid rain (SAR). Results showed manure significantly increased soil organic carbon (SOC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), available phosphorus (AP), total N, total P and pH, and decreased CaCl2-extractable metals and total heavy metals in water and SAR leachate. The addition of earthworms significantly increased AP (from 0.38 to 1.7 mg kg?1), and a downward trend in CaCl2-extractable and total leaching loss of heavy metals were observed. The combined earthworm and manure treatment decreased CaCl2-extractable Zn, Cd, and Pb. For Na4P2O7-extractable metals, Cd and Pb were decreased with increasing manure application rate. Application of earthworm alone did not contribute to the remediation of heavy metal polluted soils. Considering the effects on heavy metal immobilization and cost, the application of 6% manure was an alternative approach for treating contaminated soils. These findings provide valuable information for risk management during immobilization of heavy metals in contaminated soils.
Thirty-two topsoil samples were collected to analyze the residue levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in topsoil of arid and semiarid areas of northwest China in 2011. Results showed that DDTs were the dominant contaminants with a mean concentration of 12.52 ng/g. The spatial distribution characteristics indicated that α-hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) were mainly used in rural sites, whereas hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and endosulfan were detected mostly in urban areas. DDTs, heptachlor, and chlordane were found almost equally in both urban and rural areas. Source identification revealed that the current levels of HCHs in soils were attributable to the residues from their historical use and fresh usage of lindane (γ-HCH). DDTs were mainly from historical use and fresh usage of dicofol, and HCB was emitted from the chemical industry. It was also found that the current soil levels of heptachlor were mainly from its historical usage, endosulfan from fresh input, and chlordane from long-range atmospheric transport, respectively. The noncarcinogenic health risk assessment with a model was also conducted using USEPA standards for adults and children. Results indicated that health risk under nondietary exposure to OCPs decreased in the sequence of ΣDDT?>?ΣHCH?>?HCB?>?Σheptachlor?>?Σendosulfan?>?Σchlordane. According to the reference dose from the USEPA, the health risk under nondietary exposure to OCPs in the soil samples was at a relatively safe level. 相似文献
Land use is shaped by human activities. Traditional methods of measuring land uses (e.g. surveys and remote sensing techniques) often have difficulties in capturing human activities. The near-ubiquitous coverage of mobile phones opens up a new way to investigate land use through human activities. We propose to analyze land use by characterizing human activity patterns based on the aggregated call volume, and apply non-negative matrix factorization to identify fundamental behavioral classes. Using tower-based call data from Dakar, Senegal, we discover two fundamental land use patterns: commercial/business/industrial (C/B/I) and residential. Then, the land use of the reception area of each cell tower can be inferred based on the weights obtained for each basis vector. To evaluate the proposed approach, the results are compared with two points-of-interest (POI) data sets obtained from OpenStreetMap and Facebook’s Graph API. We have found that a majority of POIs like embassies, offices, and hotels are located in the predicted C/B/I areas; specifically, there is a strong positive correlation between estimated land use weights and the number of related POIs. Furthermore, we have shown analyzing 24-h call pattern matrix can track daily land use changes. 相似文献
