The risks related to global climate change are seen as threats to companies, taking into consideration their impact on the return on investment. In order to mitigate climate risk and introduce new opportunities to financiers, companies need to identify, manage, and report climate risks. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the climate risks disclosed by the 100 largest companies in the world, according to the Bloomberg and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC 2015) classification, and identify some characteristics of these companies that explain the disclosure level of such information. Preliminary results revealed that of the companies investigated, 14% did not disclose any climate risk information in the Carbon Disclosure Program (CDP) report. Also, from the companies that disclosed information according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), 9.9% did not provide information regarding policies, actions, and strategies for mitigating the risks related to climate change. The results shown by the content analysis suggested that, in general, there is still a low level of disclosure about climate risks by these companies. The final results through econometric instruments and statistical tests indicate that the size of the company or the fact that corporations are from developed countries do not necessarily explain the level of information disclosed. However, the activity sector, the continent, and the efficiency of the Board of Directors are factors that strongly explain the level of climate risk disclosure. We conclude that more effort is needed to encourage an engaging attitude from corporations to develop actions, policies, and strategies to mitigate climate change risks and threats. Multiple linear regression models of urban runoff pollutant load and event mean concentration considering rainfall variables 总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8
Rainfall is an important factor in estimating the event mean concentration (EMC) which is used to quantify the washed-off pollutant concentrations from non-point sources (NPSs). Pollutant loads could also be calculated using rainfall, catchment area and runoff coefficient. In this study, runoff quantity and quality data gathered from a 28-month monitoring conducted on the road and parking lot sites in Korea were evaluated using multiple linear regression (MLR) to develop equations for estimating pollutant loads and EMCs as a function of rainfall variables. The results revealed that total event rainfall and average rainfall intensity are possible predictors of pollutant loads. Overall, the models are indicators of the high uncertainties of NPSs; perhaps estimation of EMCs and loads could be accurately obtained by means of water quality sampling or a long term monitoring is needed to gather more data that can be used for the development of estimation models. 相似文献

Complex ethological adaptations and intraspecific interactions leave few fossil traces. We document three Dominican (20 million
years old [myo]) and Baltic (45 myo) amber fossils that exhibit firm evidence of highly integrated interactions between mothers
and offspring in the diverse camptosomate lineage of beetles (Chrysomelidae, leaf beetles). As in contemporary species, these
hard cases were initially constructed by mothers, then inherited and retained by offspring, which then elaborate this protective
domicile with an unusual but economical building material, their feces. The three fossils are classified in the Subfamily
Cryptocephalinae; two are classified in the tribe Chlamisini based on morphological evidence—the flattened head lacking a
sharp keel and long legs with simple recurved untoothed claws. These diagnostic features are not clearly visible in the third
specimen to permit more refined identification. These fossils provide more precise paleontological dating of tribal nodes
within the cryptocephaline radiation of leaf beetles. These fossils are the first and earliest evidence of mother–offspring
interaction, building behavior, and fecal recycling in Camptosomata beetles and of inheritance of architectural structures

There are several factors that influence whether people will want to participate in index insurance programs. A number of
these influence their attractiveness on economic grounds, including both the size and timing of the premium and potential
payouts, and the degree of risk aversion of the potential customers. Other factors make programs attractive for reasons that
are not economic, but no less valid. These have to do with the trust that people have in the insurance product and the organizations
involved in selling and managing it. Indeed, data from India, Africa, and South America show that these factors may be more
important than the economic ones in influencing demand. Index insurance pilot projects, in order to estimate demand for alternative
products, have typically involved a great deal of interaction with potential customers. It is important to recognize that
such interaction is crucial not just as a research tool, but also as a means to build understanding and trust in the products.
When scaling up from isolated pilots to operational programs, it is vital to recognize this trust building function by replicating
participation efforts in every community. In this paper, we examine the role of field games in establishing and building trust
in three important aspects of these projects for participants: trust in the insurance product, trust in the participating
organizations, and trust in their own ability to make good decisions. While games have previously been used as a way to gauge
interest in the product and to identify design features, we argue that these games are also valuable tools for constructing
