To explore the concentrations and dynamics of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in Finnish semi-domesticated reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus L.) the reindeer milk and tissue samples were collected from the sub-arctic northern Finland. Reindeer milk's PCB sum (1.20 ng g(-1) wet weight) and PCDD/F sum (0.70 pg g(-1) ww) in autumn were higher than in summer (PCBs 0.50 ng g(-1) ww and PCDD/Fs 0.20 pg g(-1) ww). The mean fat content in autumn milk (26%) was significantly higher than in summer (10%). Concentrations in reindeer milk were generally far below 50% of that in adult reindeer body burden. However, the bioaccumulation factors were multiple in milk/reindeer calf ratio and that aroused the question of other important exposure routes than lactation. The muscle and liver of reindeer calves had higher PCDD/F and PCB concentrations than adult animals that possibly indicate the significance of transfer of these compounds from dam to calf through lactation and placenta. However, PBDE concentrations were higher in adult reindeer, especially in liver. In addition, reindeer liver seems to have a special feature to collect highly toxic PCDD/Fs, although the PCB sum concentrations (range from 0.33 to 1.69 ng g(-1) wet weight) were clearly higher than the sums of PCDD/Fs (range from 3.78 to 39.2 pg g(-1) ww). Stillborn reindeer calves represented individuals who had got their PCDD/F, PCB and PBDE load only via the placenta. Concentrations in muscle and brown adipose tissue samples did not indicate dependency on fat content. Obviously effective placental transfer of PCBs and PBDEs from reindeer dam to foetus was seen in this study.  相似文献

Automotive catalyst deactivation can be promoted by thermal and poisoning mechanisms. Catalyst efficiency is reduced by thermal degradation resulting in the agglomeration of precious metals and the reduction of the washcoat surface area. In this paper, the temperature influence on the commercial Pd/Rh-based automotive catalyst performance was studied. Textural and physicochemical characterisation techniques were employed, such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), N2 physisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM–EDX). The catalysts were evaluated for CO and propane oxidation with a stoichiometric gas mixture similar to engine exhaust gas. The results indicated the transformation of alumina into high temperature phases and the formation of new mixed oxide phases. Evidence of sintered particles and several spots of palladium agglomerates was seen by SEM–EDX analysis. The activity results showed the effects of thermal deactivation on the conversion of the pollutants. In spite of exposure to extreme temperature conditions (72 h at 1200 °C), significant activity was still observed for carbon monoxide and propane oxidation reactions.  相似文献

In aquatic ecosystems organisms are exposed to mixtures of pollutants. Still, risk assessment focuses almost exclusively on effect characterization of individual substances. The main objective of the current study was therefore to study mixture toxicity of a common group of industrial substances, i.e., brominated flame-retardants (BFRs), in the harpacticoid copepod Nitocra spinipes. Initially, 10 BFRs with high hydrophobicity but otherwise varying chemical characteristics were selected based on multivariate chemical characterization and tested individually for effects on mortality and development using a partial life cycle test (six days) where silica gel is used as a carrier of the hydrophobic substances. Based on these findings, six of the 10 BFRs were mixed in a series of NOEC proportions (which were set to 0.008, 0.04, 0.2, 1, and five times the NOEC concentrations for each individual BFR), loaded on silica gel and tested in a full life cycle test (26 days). Significantly increased mortality was observed in N. spinipes after six and 26 days exposure at a NOEC proportion that equals the NOEC LDR value (x1) for each BFR in the mixture (p=0.0015 and p=0.0105, respectively). At the NOECx5 proportion all animals were dead. None of the other NOEC proportions caused significant negative responses related to development and reproduction. This shows that low concentrations of individual substances can cause toxicity if exposed in mixtures, which highlights the need to consider mixture toxicity to a greater extent in regulatory work.  相似文献

In southern Sweden, where exposure to long range distributedheavy metals is about the highest in Scandinavia, depositionsof cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) decreased about 20 and 70%,respectively, between mid-1980s and mid-1990s, as estimated bytheir concentrations in moss. Concentrations of Cd and Pb in tissues of the pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca) and bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) were also lower in 1996and 1997 compared to 1981 and 1982. It is concluded that the decreased deposition rate of these elements in southern Sweden had caused decreased exposure, and thus also to decreased potential risk of detrimental effects on insectivorous birds andherbivorous mammals. There was no indication that breeding results of pied flycatcher was influenced by the decreased deposition of toxic metals.  相似文献

Manometric respirometry (UK-MITI test) was found convenient for biodegradability testing of poorly soluble chemicals. Various dispersion techniques were evaluated with anthraquinone (solid) and di-isooctylphtalate (liquid). Application on silica gel via a solvent (dichloromethane) was found generally suitable. Ultrasonic dispersion was found suitable only if a stable emulsion forms.  相似文献
