An important factor in aquatic modelling is water temperature. This is especially true for dimictic lakes where stratification and mixing influence many processes and variables, such as oxygen conditions, lake water retention time, etc. This paper evaluates and improves an existing method to predict water temperatures developed by Håkanson ,1996 (Ecol. Model., 88:157–181). The method is incorporated in a model simulating water temperatures in epilimnion and hypolimnion. The model is calibrated and validated against an extensive set of empirical data. It is driven by readily available parameters, e.g. latitude, continentality and altitude. The predictive power, especially for the epilimnetic temperature, is such that the model could be used as a sub-model in many models concerning lake ecosystems. However, the model has only been tested for Swedish lakes covering a relatively narrow range in terms of latitude, longitude and altitude and it would be interesting to investigate if this approach also holds for other parts of the world. The paper describes an experimental set-up designed to measure the volatilization of different pesticides after application under full-scale field conditions. The pesticides were sprayed around the circumference of a circle and measurements of meteorology and air concentrations of pesticides were taken in the centre of the circle. The paper describes how the dimensions like the radius of the circle and height of the mast in the experimental set-up are found from theoretical considerations. A method to increase the confidence of the flux calculations is described. It utilizes that several substances were applied simultaneously and that a certain parameter in the fitted concentration profiles depends on turbulence only and thus have the same value for all substances. A model to minimize joint total costs for industrial waste producers and waste management companies.
The model LINKopt is a mixed-integer, linear programming model for mid- and long-term planning of waste management options on an inter-company level. There has been a large increase in the transportation of waste material in Germany, which has been attributed to the implementation of the European Directive 75/442/EEC on waste. Similar situations are expected to emerge in other European countries. The model LINKopt has been developed to determine a waste management system with minimal decision-relevant costs considering transportation, handling, storage and treatment of waste materials. The model can serve as a tool to evaluate various waste management strategies and to obtain the optimal combination of investment options. In addition to costs, ecological aspects are considered by determining the total mileage associated with the waste management system. The model has been applied to a German case study evaluating different investment options for a co-operation between Daimler-Chrysler AG at Rastatt, its suppliers, and the waste management company SITA P+R GmbH. The results show that the installation of waste management facilities at the premises of the waste producer would lead to significant reductions in costs and transportation. 相似文献
