The increasing demand for environmental performance evaluation of industry requires development of sector-specific environmental performance indicators (EPIs). For the consumer product manufacturing industry, in this case the textile industry, the need to evaluate environmental performance both from process and product life cycle perspectives leads to development of EPIs of process and product dimensions. Chiral signatures of PCB#s 95 and 149 are reported for indoor air, grass, omnivorous and vegan duplicate human diet homogenates, and human faeces. Comparison of chiral signatures of both congeners in grass with those reported previously for outdoor air (measured at a height of 1.5 m) and soil at the same location suggest that volatilisation of PCBs present in soil may exert a significant influence on concentrations in grass. Duplicate diet homogenates display racemic signatures for both congeners. Alongside the racemic signatures in both outdoor and indoor air, this implies that human intake via diet and inhalation is racemic, and that the previously observed variation between individuals in the extent of enantioselective degradation in human liver samples indicates possible inter-individual variation in ability to metabolise PCBs. Chiral signatures of PCB# 95 in the 10 human faecal samples analysed indicate 8 to be racemic, but 2 to display an excess of the 2nd eluting enantiomer. This is consistent with the excess of the 1st eluting enantiomer reported elsewhere for human liver samples, as it implies enantioselective excretion of the 2nd eluting enantiomer. However, the racemic residues for PCB# 95 in the majority of faecal samples are a possible indication that enantioselective interaction of chiral PCBs with cytochrome P450 occurs slowly. The racemic or near-racemic signatures observed for PCB# 95 and 149 in indoor air match closely those in outdoor air, but differ from those in soil, adding to the weight of evidence that ventilation of indoor air is a far more significant contributor to outdoor air concentrations than volatilisation of PCBs from soil. 相似文献

We investigated the spatial distribution of Pb in soil and dust samples collected from 54 sites in Shenyang city, Liaoning province, Northeast China. Soil background Pb concentration was 22 mg kg−1 and control values from non-industrial areas were 33 mg kg−1 for soil and 38 mg kg−1 for dust. Soil Pb concentrations varied widely, ranging from 26 to 2911 mg kg−1, with a mean concentration of 200 mg kg−1, 9 times the background value and 6 times the control value. There was great variation in soil Pb, with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 1.06 and a standard deviation (SD) of 212 mg kg−1. Dust Pb concentrations fluctuated from 20 to 2810 mg kg−1, with a mean value of 220 mg kg−1, almost 6 times the control value. No significant differences in distribution were observed between soil Pb and dust Pb. The highest Pb concentration was observed in Tiexi district in an industrial area. Soil Pb concentration decreased with depth and with distance from the pollution source. Lead concentrations initially changed little but then decreased with distance from the roadside, and were generally higher on the east side of roads than on the west. Lead contents in different categories of urban area differed substantially with dust and soil Pb concentrations decreasing in the sequence: industrial >business >mixed (residential, culture and education)> reference areas. 相似文献

The weak solubility of carbofuran allows adsorption at the air/water interface. Carbofuran-rich layers can then induce the coadsorption of metallic salts such as lead nitrate; on the other hand, when carbofuran is missing, no adsorption of this salt takes place. This phenomenon was quantitatively studied through surface tension measurements under concentration conditions close to the environmental ones. Heavy metal salt adsorbed about ten times more than carbofuran. Evidence was then provided that the simultaneous presence of both pollutants in water favours their adsorption and passing from water to the atmosphere through mechanisms such as bubbling. 相似文献
