Determining the equilibrium partitioning coefficients of volatile organic compounds at an air-water interface 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The single equilibration technique (SET) was adopted to determine the partitioning coefficients (pc) at an air-water interface for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including ethanol, iso-propanol (IPA), iso-butanol (IBA), methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and toluene, all extensively used in industrial processes. Standard SET procedures were established. The liquid concentrations (CL) of tested VOCs ranged from 10 to 125 mg l(-1) for alcohols and MEK, and from 0.5 to 20 mg l(-1) for toluene. The temperatures (Tw) of aqueous VOC solutions were maintained at 27, 32, 38 and 42 degrees C to determine the gaseous concentrations at equilibrium (Cg*) and pc of VOCs, using the formula pc=(Cg*/CL). Results reveal that the pc values of all tested components increase slowly with Tw given a constant CL, and that the pc of alcohols and MEK fall as CL increases at a constant Tw. In contrast, the pc of toluene is not significantly impacted by a variation in CL at a constant Tw. However, the effect of CL concentration has seldom been discussed. The heats of liquid and gaseous phase transfer (DeltaHtr) of VOC, and the highly linear regression (with squared correlation coefficients, R2, from 0.901 to 0.999) between lnCg* and Tw(-1) are also evaluated. The experimental results and the VOC mass transfer characteristics are helpful for evaluating the emission of VOC from the water surface of wastewater treatment facilities. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Field data collected from the Feitsui Reservoir in Taiwan indicate that the water is at a stage between mesotrophic and eutrophic. Recent measurements such as total phosphorus, chlorophyll a and Secchi depth levels suggest that the water quality has been declining. A two‐dimensional, laterally averaged, finite difference hydrodynamic and water quality model was used to simulate the water quality in the Feitsui Reservoir in an effort to determine sound water quality management strategies. The model was calibrated and verified using data collected in 1996 and 1997. The calibrated model was used to simulate algal biomass (in terms of chlorophyll a) levels under various wasteload reduction scenarios. Model results show that 50 percent reduction of the total phosphorus load will improve the existing water quality, shifting the trophic status from eutrophic/mesotrophic to oligotrophic. The modeling effort has yielded valuable information that can be used by decision makers for the evaluation of different management strategies of reducing watershed nutrient loads. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: The spatial distribution of hydrogeologic parameter is an important issue in ground water simulation. One of the methods is to divide an area into several zones such that parameters are assumed to be constant within zone. The purpose of this study is to apply Tabu Search (TS) to find the best zonation of parameters that can result in the best ground water simulation. The initial zonation can be determined as the Thiessen method, and then zonation is optimized by T.S. The mean square error between simulated and observed hydraulic heads was used as the objective function. A designed confined aquifer with known zonation was used as an example to test the proposed method. Results indicated that Tabu Search can locate the optimal zonation successfully and avoid being trapped by local optimal zonations. Besides this, four other arbitrary initial zonations can be directed to the optimal zonation by TS, which proves the robustness of the proposed method. The method proposed in this study is feasible and expected to work well in the field problems with sufficient sampling of concerned parameters. 相似文献

对云南蛇纹岩发育土壤进行了植物和土壤的重金属含量调查和分析.结果表明,Ni、Co为土壤中的主要污染金属,在土壤中的含量范围分别为565~4844mg/kg和69~481mg/kg,Cu、Zn含量则在正常范围内;土壤中Ni、Co生物可利用态的含量均较低.统计分析显示,土壤中Ni、Co含量之间存在显著正相关(R=0.794,P<0.01).调查蛇纹岩发育土壤上隶属21科的42种高等植物,并分析其重金属含量,发现植物体内Ni、Co含量也存在显著相关,可能受到土壤因素的影响所致.调查并未发现Ni、Co的超累积植物,但发现此区域存在较多的Ni、Co耐性植物,对Ni矿废弃地的植被重建有一定的研究意义.图1表6参8 相似文献

An ecological data base for the San Jacinto Mountains, California, USA, was used to construct a probability model of wildland
fire occurrence. The model incorporates both environmental and human factors, including vegetation, temperature, precipitation,
human structures, and transportation. Spatial autocorrelation was examined for both fire activity and vegetation to determine
the specification of neighborhood effects in the model. Parameters were estimated using stepwise logistic regressions. Among
the explanatory variables, the variable that represents the neighborhood effects of spatial processes is shown to be of great
importance in the distribution of wildland fires. An important implication of this result is that the management of wildland
fires must take into consideration neighborhood effects in addition to environmental and human factors. The distribution of
fire occurrence probability is more accurately mapped when the model incorporates the spatial term of neighborhood effects.

Continuous measurements of hourly PM10 soluble ions were performed by the in situ IC technology in order to assess the impact of Asian outflows on local air quality. The intensive aerosol observation was carried in Taipei from 11 February 22:00 to 7 April 19:00, 2004. Concentrations of the water-soluble ions (Cl(-), NO(-)(2), NO(-)(3), SO(2-)(4), Na(+), NH(+)(4), K(+), and Ca(2+)) were measured in a total of 3,300 samples. The characteristics of air pollutant events in Taipei Basin were classified as frontal dust, dust, northeast monsoon, south wind and sea/land breeze according to the hourly meteorology and air pollutant concentrations. Factor analysis was conducted based on hourly data for 13 variables to find the group of variables with similar behavior. According to the source characteristics of high loading species, the possible sources of PM10 aerosols in each group were identified. Three to four factors were identified for each event. The total variances of frontal dust, dust, northeast trade, south wind, and sea/land breeze events were explained about 85%, 86%, 76%, 77%, and 80%, respectively, indicating that the identified factors were satisfactory. 相似文献

Modeling the width and placement of riparian vegetated buffer strips: a case study on the Chi-Jia-Wang stream,Taiwan 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Improper agricultural activities seriously affect water quality. It is very important to control agricultural nonpoint source pollution along the Chi-Jia-Wang Stream to protect the habitat of land-locked salmon (Oncorhynchus masou formosanus), one of the endangered species in Taiwan. Riparian vegetative buffer strips are used to intercept wastewater, surface runoff and groundwater flow to reduce pesticide, nutrient and other organic pollutants before they enter the stream. This study estimates the suitable width for vegetated buffer strips in the riparian zone along the stream using a geographic information system and an index model. The groundwater in the study area is easily contaminated by pollutants due to the high hydraulic conductivity in the riparian zone of the Chi-Jia-Wang Stream. After comparing simulations on selected 46 kinds of selected pesticides, the maximum safety depth of Fenarimol was estimated. A wider Fenarimol vegetated strip is needed as a buffer zone to ensure pollution control effectiveness. Simulation results can provide a preliminary evaluation for the soil or groundwater pollution caused by pesticides, but the actual influences require onsite data verification. 相似文献
