Previous research has shown that plant diversity influences N and P cycles. However, the effect of plant diversity on complete ecosystem N and P budgets has not yet been assessed. For 20 plots of artificially established grassland mixtures differing in plant diversity, we determined N and P inputs by bulk and dry deposition and N and P losses by mowing (and subsequent removal of the biomass) and leaching from April 2003 to March 2004. Total deposition of N and P was 2.3 +/- 0.1 and 0.2 +/- 0.01 g m(-2) yr(-1), respectively. Mowing was the main N and P loss. The net N and P budgets were negative (-6.3 +/- 1.1 g N and -1.9 +/- 0.2 g P m(-2) yr(-1)). For N, this included a conservative estimate of atmospheric N(2) fixation. Nitrogen losses as N(2)O were expected to be small at our study site (<0.05 g m(-2) yr(-1)). Legumes increased the removal of N with the harvest and decreased leaching of NH(4)-N and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) from the canopy. Reduced roughness of grass-containing mixtures decreased dry deposition of N and P. Total dissolved P and NO(3)-N leaching from the canopy increased in the presence of grasses attributable to the decreased N and P demand of grass-containing mixtures. Species richness did not have an effect on any of the studied fluxes. Our results demonstrate that the N and P fluxes in managed grassland are modified by the presence or absence of particular functional plant groups and are mainly driven by the management.  相似文献

Seit Oktober 2003 liegt der Verordnungsentwurf zur Neuordnung der europ?ischen Chemikalienpolitik vor. Aus ihm ergeben sich zahlreiche, zum Teil neuartige Aufgaben für Hersteller und Importeure von Chemikalien, Zubereitungen und Erzeugnissen, für nachgeschaltete Anwender und für den Handel. Die Landesregierung Nordrhein-Westfalen hat in einem Pilotprojekt Schlüsselelemente des REACH-Systems in der Praxis erprobt. A case of complete karyotype discrepancy between cultured chorionic villi and amniotic in addition to fetal cells is reported. Ring chromosome 18 and monosomy 18 mosaicism was detected after amniocentesis. The pregnancy was terminated in the 23rd gestational week. Cytogenetic analysis of cultured umbilical cord tissue after termination confirmed the finding of ring chromosome 18/monosomy 18 mosaicism. In cultured umbilical blood lymphocytes monosomic cells 45,-18 were not detected and the karyotype was 46,XY,r(18). In contrast, short-term and long-term cultured chorionic villi showed a normal male karyotype of 46,XY. Wastewater from wash down of boat hulls contains typically Cu, Zn and organometallic biocides, e.g. tributyltin (TBT). In some cases this wastewater is led directly into the marine system. In the present paper, a cheap flocculation method (iron flocculants) for removal of Cu and Zn from the wastewater is investigated and the method was shown successful. TBT concentration in a sample from a German dockyard was also decreased during flocculation, but the TBT removed was already associated with small particulates in the original sample. Low concentrations of heavy metals were obtained by flocculation: <0.05 mg Cu/l and 0.2 mg Zn/l. An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

If volatile organoselenides are to be analyzed for their stable Se isotope composition to elucidate sources and formation processes, organoselenides need to be trapped quantitatively to avoid artificial Se isotope fractionation. We developed an efficient trap of organoselenides to be used in microcosms designed to determine the Se isotope fractionation by microbial transformation of inorganic Se to volatile organoselenides. The recoveries of volatilized dimethyldiselenide (DMDSe) from aqueous standard solutions by activated charcoal and alkaline peroxide solution with subsequent freeze-drying and purification via a cation exchange resin were tested. Microcosm experiments with the Se-methylating fungus in a growth medium were conducted, and tightness of the microcosm was assessed by comparing mass balances of total Se of the fungus, medium, and trapped organoselenides with the supplied Se mass. At the end of the experiment, we calculated δSe values of the whole microcosm and compared them with the δSe value of supplied Se(IV) and Se(VI). Our results demonstrated that activated charcoal cannot be used for quantitative trapping of organoselenides because generally <64% of the outgassed DMDSe were recovered. The mean recovery of Se volatilized from an aqueous DMDSe standard trapped in alkaline peroxide, in contrast, was 96 ± 11% (SD) after 2 h ( = 4). The mass balances of total Se in microcosm experiments with alkaline peroxide traps run for 11 to 15 d were 96 ± 15 and 102 ± 2.4% for Se(IV) and Se(VI) ( = 3), respectively. The mass-weighted mean δSe values for the Se(IV) and Se(VI) batch experiments were -0.31 ± 0.05‰ ( = 3) and -0.76 ± 0.07‰ ( = 3), compared with -0.20 ± 0.10‰ and -0.69 ± 0.10‰ in the supplied Se oxyanions, respectively. We conclude that the alkaline peroxide trap can reliably be used to determine the Se isotope composition of organoselenides.  相似文献

Agricultural intensification can affect biodiversity and related ecosystem services such as biological control, but large-scale experimental evidence is missing. We examined aphid pest populations in cereal fields under experimentally reduced densities of (1) ground-dwelling predators (-G), (2) vegetation-dwelling predators and parasitoids (-V), (3) a combination of (1) and (2) (-G-V), compared with open-fields (control), in contrasting landscapes with low vs. high levels of agricultural intensification (AI), and in five European regions. Aphid populations were 28%, 97%, and 199% higher in -G, -V, and -G-V treatments, respectively, compared to the open fields, indicating synergistic effects of both natural-enemy groups. Enhanced parasitoid: host and predator: prey ratios were related to reduced aphid population density and population growth. The relative importance of parasitoids and vegetation-dwelling predators greatly differed among European regions, and agricultural intensification affected biological control and aphid density only in some regions. This shows a changing role of species group identity in diverse enemy communities and a need to consider region-specific landscape management.  相似文献
