The present study was conducted to determine the physico-chemical properties and heavy metal contents in soils under three land uses (agricultural, riverbank and roadside) from areas situated around rivers (Beas and Sutlej) in Punjab, India. Heavy metal contents in wheat samples (grain and fodder) growing in the area were also analyzed in order to find out potential human health risk through wheat consumption. The studied soils under the three land uses were found to be basic in nature with sandy texture, low soil organic matter and other soil nutrients. Comparatively higher amounts of soil nutrients were observed in soils under agricultural land use as compared to riverbank and roadside land uses. The amounts of heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Co and Pb) analyzed in soils were lower than the various national and international maximum permissible limits, but heavy metal contents observed in wheat fodder samples exceeded the maximum permissible limits for fodder. The soil-to-plant metal bioaccumulation factor was found to be highest for Cu (3.812 for soil–wheat grain and 1.874 for soil–wheat fodder), which showed the bioaccumulation of heavy metals from soils to crops, and the wheat straw-to-grain translocation factor was found to be highest for Co (4.375). The hazard index calculated to assess non-carcinogenic health risks was found above 1 for children, meaning that the wheat grains can pose health risks to children. 相似文献

Water-quality parameters and concentrations of various metals in bed sediments of the River Kali and the River Hindon in India were analysed to understand their behaviour in subtropical fluvial systems. Variations in the physico-chemical parameters of the river water and metal content in the bed sediments were recorded in four seasons of the year (post-monsoon, winter, summer and monsoon). Results show that water and sediments contain high cadmium (Cd) and Zinc (Zn). Total and soluble Cd and Zn profiles show that in summer, metals in the water phase exist predominantly in the bound form. Cd and Zn in bed sediments increase from the post-monsoon to the summer season. During and after the monsoon season, metal concentrations in sediments fall rapidly. A single intraperitoneal administration of tin (II) tartrate to albino rats (2 mg body wt) depressed the levels of hepatic glutathione reductase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, succinic dehydrogenase, reduced glutathione (GSH) and total sulfhydryl contents and led to an elevated level of tin. Serum aminotransferase levels were however, not affected but an increase in serum bilirubin and calcium levels was noticed. studies showed that tin tartrate upto a concentration of 2 uM did not affect the activity of liver enzymes tested, when the enzyme preparations were incubated with metallic salts during the time of assay. Distribution of radiotin (Sn113) in target organs and in the hepatic subcellular fractions was studied in sham and partially hepatectomised rats 72 hrs after the administration of tin (II) tartrate (2 mg Sn++, 10 uCi/100 gm body weight) intraperitoneally. The results indicate that in both the groups Sn113 was maximally accumulated in liver followed by kidney and spleen. Partially hepatectomised rat however accumulated less Sn113 in liver while an increase was observed in kidney. Subcellular studies showed significantly high affinity of tin for microsomes. This study demonstrates the influences of position, number of nitrogen (N) atoms and –C–N– or –N=N– linkage present in the six membered heterocyclic compounds such as pyridine, pyrazine, and pyridazine on their photocatalytic degradation by Au, Ag, and Fe+2 deposited TiO2 photocatalyst. The photodegradation rate of these heterocyclic compounds follow the order pyridine > pyrazine > pyridazine due to the different extent of hydroxylation and difference in position and number of N atoms in the aromatic moiety. The Au photodeposition significantly improved the TiO2 photoactivity as compared to Ag and Fe+2 loading. The presence of two N atoms in pyrazine and pyridazine as compared to one N atom in pyridine hamper the nucleophilc attack of OH radicals in comparison to easy hydroxylation of pyridine ring. There is 1 N atom, 4C–C, 1C–N and 1C=N bond in pyridine, 2 N atoms in the 1 and 4 positions, 2C–C, 2C–N bonds and 2C=N bonds in pyrazine, and pyridazine ring contains 2 N atoms in the 1 and 2 positions, 3C–C, 1N–N bond and 2C=N bonds. The bond strength/energy decreases gradually as: C=N– (615 KJ/mol)?>?–N=N– (418 KJ/mol)?>?–C–C– (347 KJ/mol)?>?–C–N– (305 KJ/mol)?>?–N–N– (163 KJ/mol). As pyridine has 1C–N, 1C=N, and no N–N bond, it photodegrades easily as compared to 1 N–N and 2C=N bonds of pyridazine of lowest photodecomposition rate. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is grown as a rainfed crop in the sub-mountainous region of the Punjab state of India, with low crop and water productivity. The present study aims to assess the effect of climate change scenario (A1B) derived from PRECIS—a regional climate model—on wheat yield and water productivity. After minimizing bias in the model climate data for mid-century (2021–2050), evapotranspiration (ET) and yield of wheat crop were simulated using Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer, version 4.5, model. In the changed climate, increased temperature would cause reduction in wheat yield to the extent of 4, 32 and 61 % in the mid-century periods between 2021–2030, 2031–2040 and 2041–2050, respectively, by increasing water stress and decreasing utilization efficiency of photosynthetically active radiation. The decreases in crop water productivity would be 40, 56 and 76 %, respectively, which are caused by decreased yield and increased ET. Planting of wheat up to November 25 till the years 2030–2031 seems to be helpful to mitigate the climate change effect, but not beyond that. 相似文献
