In Austria, the impact of sulphur has been assessed since 1985 with the help of the Austrian Bioindicator Grid on 760 sample plots with Picea abies as the main tree species (90%). The annual sampling allows a precise evaluation of the temporal and regional development of the impact of sulphur on the basis of legal standards. Despite the reduction of SO2 emissions in Austria, the legal standard is still exceeded on 8% of the plots. These plots are mainly located near large Austrian emittors, but also in areas affected by transboundary sulphur emissions from neighbouring countries. The present paper describes how the Bioindicator Grid can be applied for the control of legal requirements to enact effective clean air measures in Austria and take supportive measures that reduce the impact of sulphur from emittors in neighbouring countries. 相似文献

The effect of ambient air with increased ozone concentrations and artificial acid mist on the population growth of two different aphid species was studied: Aphis fabae on Phaseolus vulgaris and Phyllaphis fagi on seedings of Fagus sylvatica. Whereas the ambient air inhibited growth of Aphis fabae, it stimulated population growth of Phyllaphis fagi. In Fagus, analysis of a phloem exudate revealed that the amino acid/sugar ratio was significantly increased by the ambient air compared to filtered air. In Phaseolus, no significant differences in amino acid or sugar content of the phloem exudate could be found. Acid mist inhibited population development in both aphid species; the strongest effect was observed in the first weeks after artificial infestation. 相似文献

Concentrations of 2,3,7,8-chlorine substituted PCDDs, PCDFs, selected PCB congeners and HCB were determined in sediment samples collected from sites along the east coast of Queensland in northern Australia. PCDDs were detectable in all sediment samples while PCDFs, PCBs and HCB were mainly found in sediment samples collected from sites in the Brisbane metropolitan area. For the assessment of emission inventories matching pairs of activities (emission explaining variables) and emission factors are used. Simpler and detailed methodologies are proposed within the emission inventory handbooks. The data sets needed to serve the detailed methodologies have not been at public disposal so far. Therefore, this paper investigates the applicability of simpler methodologies to the statistical data sets of activities officially available in Germany. The statistical data base for the assessment of emissions from fertilised soils is adequate if one assumes that fertilisers sold in one financial year are applied in the same year. For grassland, statistical data describing the actual management do not exist. Lack of nitrogen inputs with crop residues and due to nitrogen fixation make it impossible to deduce the respective emissions. The assessment of indirect emissions due to reactions of leached nitrogen is also impossible. For extensively managed grasslands, data concerning fertiliser application or grazing are missing when calculating emissions. The determination of emissions from organic soils presupposes the knowledge of both the area concerned and the degree of mineralisation which has been attained at the time of the inventory. The results of the biennial animal census meet the requirements of the simpler methodologies. However, the assumptions made to evaluate the mean emission factors are not correct in many cases, as far as animal performance, housing, storage and application of animal excreta are concerned. The simpler methodologies are biassed, as the emission factors are (Northwest) European means. Chromate (Cr) decreases the growth of Spirodela polyrhiza. The fronds lost their pigments. The O2 evolution was also decreased. The Cr effect was found to be dose dependent. The toxic effects of Cr have further been studied on the photosynthetic activity of Spirodela polyrhiza by means of the chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence transient O-J-I-P. The Chl a fluorescence transients were recorded in vivo with high time resolution and analyzed according to the JIP-test which can quantify the photosystem II behavior. Cr treated plants show a decrease in yield for primary photochemistry, phi Po. The performance index of PSII, PIABS, which is the combination of the indexes of three independent parameters, (1) the total number of active reaction centers per absorption (RC/ABS), (2) yield of primary photochemistry (phi Po) and (3) efficiency with which a trapped exciton can move an electron into the electron transport chain (psi 0), decreased due to Cr treatment. Chromate sensitivity varies within plant populations. In summary Cr affects several targets of PSII. More specifically, the main targets of Cr, according to the JIP-test, can be listed as a decrease in the number of active reaction centers and damage to the oxygen-evolving complex. 相似文献

A comparative study of the degradation of commercial acrinathrin spiked in water using TiO2 photocatalysis and photolysis under sunlight was performed. Samples were analysed by liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) and gas chromatography-ion trap-mass spectrometric detector (GC-ITMS). Additional total organic carbon (TOC) analyses were carried out to evaluate the mineralisation rates. One photoproduct, 2-phenoxy benzaldehyde, was unequivocally identified and evaluated by GC-ITMS during the processes. Although acrinathrin is almost destroyed when exposed to irradiation for more than 400 h, photocatalysis with TiO2 noticeably reduced degradation to a few hours. In this case, with the additional presence of peroxydisulphate, in less than 2 h acrinathrin is completely destroyed. Mineralisation of acrinathrin, without catalyst, was only around 50% after 400 h of irradiation. 相似文献
