The development and implementation of a microstructure-based finite element model for the machining of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites is presented. A new approach to interfacial modeling is introduced where the material interface is modeled using continuum elements, allowing failure to take place in either tension or compression. The model is capable of describing the fiber failure mode occurring throughout the chip formation process. Characteristic fiber length in the chips, and machining forces for microstructures with fibers orientated at 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135° are examined. For model validation purposes, the model-based machining performance predictions are compared to the machining responses from a set of orthogonal machining experiments. A parametric study is presented that identifies a robust tool geometry, which minimizes the effects of fiber orientation and size on the machining forces. 相似文献

Tool life has been a vital issue in machining titanium alloys. Recently, an atomization-based cutting fluid (ACF) application has been found to be an effective approach for cooling and lubrication in micromachining operations. In this study, an ACF spray system is developed for macro-scale turning of Ti–6Al–4V. The spray system is designed to minimize interaction between the fluid droplets, and the gas nozzle to control the divergence of the fluid droplets. Experiments are conducted to study the effect of five specific ACF spray parameters including fluid flow rate, spray distance, impingement angle, and type and pressure level of the droplet carrier gas on cutting forces, tool life, and chip characteristics. It has been observed that the combination of lower pressure (150 psi) air-mixed CO2 with a higher flow rate (20 ml/min) and a larger spray distance (35 mm) produces a significantly longer tool life and broken chips. The results also reveal that the ACF spray system can extend tool life up to 40–50% over flood cooling. 相似文献

Introduction
The purpose of the current study was to examine differences in factors associated with self-reported collision involvement of three age groups of drivers based on a large representative sample of Ontario adults. Method: This study was based on data from the CAMH Monitor, an ongoing cross-sectional telephone survey of Ontario adults 18 years and older from 2002 to 2005. Three age groups were examined: 18-34 (n = 1,294), 35-54 (n = 2,428), and 55+ (n = 1,576). For each age group sample, a logistic regression analysis was conducted of self-reported collision involvement in the last 12 months by risk factor measures of driving exposure (kilometers driven in a typical week, driving is stressful, and driving on busy roads), consuming five or more drinks of alcohol on one occasion (past 12 months), cannabis use (lifetime, and past 12 months), and driving after drinking among drinkers (past 12 months), controlling for demographics (gender, region, income, and marital status). Results: The study identified differences in factors associated with self-reported collision involvement of the three age groups of adult drivers. The logistic regression model for the youngest group revealed that drivers who reported that driving was stressful at least some of the time, drank five or more drinks on an occasion, and drove after drinking had an increased risk of collision involvement. For the middle age group, those who reported using cannabis in the last 12 months had significantly increased odds of reporting collision involvement. None of the risk factor measures showed significant associations with collision risk for older drivers (aged 55+). The explosion of flammable mixtures in interconnected compartments is commonly defined as “pressure piling”. Peak pressures much higher than the predictable thermodynamic values are likely to be generated in this geometry, yielding the phenomenon of major interest in industrial safety. In this paper, a CFD model was implemented, aiming at understanding the major factors affecting pressure piling in two cylindrical interconnected vessels, by varying the volume ratio between the two interconnected vessels and the ignition position. A combustion model was specifically developed to follow the flame propagation in any combustion regimes as a function of the local conditions: laminar, flamelet and distributed reaction zone.The model was validated by comparison with experimental results. The agreement between the experiments and the simulations has allowed the interpretation of the pressure piling phenomenon and the understanding of the mechanisms involved. More precisely, the results have showed that the pressure peak intensity is mainly affected by the coupling between the pre-compression of the mixture in the secondary vessel and the violence of explosion in the same vessel as related to the venting time, the latest quantified by the turbulent Bradley number, Brt i.e. by the reaction time to the venting time ratio. 相似文献

In order to evaluate the leading and lagging effects of process safety climate on incidents, we correlated safety climate survey data with organizational safety records from before and after the survey time period. We obtained data from a large, multinational organization with manufacturing operations involving a number of complex processes, chemicals, and hazardous substances. A total of 7728 employees from 62 sites responded to a safety climate survey in 2007. Individual responses were aggregated to the site-level and matched to site-level organizational records of process safety incidents 1 year before and 1 year after survey administration. Employees’ perceptions of good routine housekeeping were significantly related to environmental impact incidents as both a leading and a lagging indicator, as well as fires/explosions and property damage outcomes. Employees’ perceptions of systems to prevent backlogs and the extent to which health and safety problems are promptly corrected were also related to environmental releases and fires/explosions. Implications for process safety climate research, organizational survey strategies, and organizational climate change are discussed. 相似文献

A juvenile lizard specimen with well-preserved skin impressions from the Upper Jurassic/Lower Cretaceous of Daohugou, Inner Mongolia, China 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Lizards are now relatively well known from the Yixian Formation of northeastern China. In this study, we describe a juvenile
lizard from a fossil horizon at Daohugou, Inner Mongolia. These beds predate the Yixian Formation, and are probably Late Jurassic
or earliest Cretaceous in age. The new specimen thus documents the first lizard material from the Daohugou locality and is
the earliest lizard skeleton from China. Comparisons with developmental stages of modern lizards suggest the Daohugou lizard
is a hatchling. Although tiny, the specimen is notable in preserving exquisite skin impressions showing the variation in scalation
across the body, the shape and position of the cloacal outlet, and details of the manus and pes. These are the earliest recorded
lepidosaurian skin traces. In its general proportions and the possession of paired frontals, the small Daohugou lizard resembles
both the Yixian taxon Yabeinosaurus tenuis and the questionable Jeholacerta formosa, but it differs from the latter in scalation and, based on other characters, may be distinct from both. 相似文献

Most plant families are distinguished by characteristic secondary metabolites, which can function as putative defence against
herbivores. However, many herbivorous insects of different orders can make use of these plant-synthesised compounds by ingesting
and storing them in their body tissue or integument. Such sequestration of putatively unpalatable or toxic metabolites can
enhance the insects’ own defence against enemies and may also be involved in reproductive behaviour. This review gives a comprehensive
overview of all groups of secondary plant metabolites for which sequestration by insect herbivores belonging to different
orders has been demonstrated. Sequestered compounds include various aromatic compounds, nitrogen-containing metabolites such
as alkaloids, cyanogenic glycosides, glucosinolates and other sulphur-containing metabolites, and isoprenoids such as cardiac
glycosides, cucurbitacins, iridoid glycosides and others. Sequestration of plant compounds has been investigated most in insects
feeding or gathering on Apocynaceae s.l. (Apocynoideae, Asclepiaoideae), Aristolochiaceae, Asteraceae, Boraginaceae, Fabaceae and Plantaginaceae, but it also occurs
for some gymnosperms and even lichens. In total, more than 250 insect species have been shown to sequester plant metabolites
from at least 40 plant families. Sequestration predominates in the Coleoptera and Lepidoptera, but also occurs frequently
in the orders Heteroptera, Hymenoptera, Orthoptera and Sternorrhyncha. Patterns of sequestration mechanisms for various compound
classes and common or individual features occurring in different insect orders are highlighted. More research is needed to
elucidate the specific transport mechanisms and the physiological processes of sequestration in various insect species. 相似文献
