This paper introduces a flexible skewed link function for modeling ordinal response data with covariates based on the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution. Commonly used probit, logit and complementary log-log links are prone to link misspecification because of their fixed skewness. The GEV link is flexible in fitting the skewness in the response curve with a free shape parameter. Using Bayesian methodology, it automatically detects the skewness in the response curve along with the model fitting. The flexibility of the proposed model is illustrated by its application to an ecological survey data about the coverage of Berberis thunbergii in New England. We employ the latent variable approach by Albert and Chib (J Am Stat Assoc 88:669–679, (1993) to develop computational schemes. For model selection, we employ the Deviance Information Criterion (DIC).  相似文献

This study analyzes the National Residue Program (NRP) of the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), data for the years 1983-1998 to determine the effectiveness of all three microbiological screen tests that were developed and used by the FSIS to control antimicrobial residues in food animals. The Swab Test On Premises (STOP) was the first screen test introduced in slaughterhouses, followed by the Calf Antibiotic Sulfonamide Test (CAST) and the Fast Antimicrobial Screen Test (FAST). The data for STOP indicates that during 1983-1998, the rate of food animal carcasses with violative levels of antimicrobial residues reduced from 2.33% to 0.45% under the monitoring plan and under the surveillance plan, the rate reduced from 55.1% to 0.56%. Similarly, the data for CAST indicates that the rate of calf carcasses with violative levels of antimicrobial residue also declined significantly during those years. Because of its higher sensitivity and shorter analytical time, the use of FAST started in 1995. By 1999, it had practically replaced the use of STOP and CAST in bovine species. The use of only one test such as FAST instead of different tests has removed confusion for testing different species of food animals and thereby has enhanced the efficiency of the NRP.  相似文献

The seed testing laboratories of Maharashtra discard 10 tonnes of grains and oil seeds treated with pesticides per annum. These agricultural wastes could be converted to reducing sugar and ethanol in a two stage semicontinuous fluidised bed bioreactor containing immobilised, Bacillus sp. and Zymomonas mobilis in the 1st stage and Saccharomyces diastaticus and S. cerevisae in the 2nd stage. The optimum temperature and pH for fermentation in both the stages were 30 degrees C and 7.2 respectively. In this process 600 g (approximately 400 g starch) waste seeds could yield 402 g of reducing sugar in the 1st stage after 20 h and 205 g ethanol in the 2nd stage after 40 h incubation with a yield factor 0.51. Using these system 10 tonnes of agricultural wastes could be converted to 3.4 x 107 g of ethanol.  相似文献

Membrane damage is one of the important consequence of chromium,an environmental toxicant,to produce cytotoxicity.α-tocopherol,a membrane protectant can be used to reduce the chromium-induced membrane damage.In the present study,the impact of chromium in presence and absence of α-tocopherol was studied on plasma membrane of live and kidney in male Wistar rats(80-100g body weight).Significant increase in membrane cholesterol level as well as significant decrease in membrane phospholipid level in chromium exposed(0.8mg/100g body weight/d,i.p.,for 4 weeks)animals suggest structural alteration of both liver and kidney plasma memebrane.The alkaline phosphatase,total ATPase and Na^ -K^ -ATPase activities of plasma membrane were significantly decreased in both liver and kidney after chromium treatment.However,α-tocopherol (30mg/100g diet)supplementation can restrict the changes in these membrane-bound enzyme activities.Thus,the usefulness of dietary supplementation of α-tocopherol to restrain the chromium-induced membrane damage is suggested.  相似文献

A highly tolerant phenol-degrading yeast strain PHB5 was isolated from wastewater effluent of a coke oven plant and identified as Candida tropicalis based on phylogenetic analysis. Biodegradation experiments with C. tropicalis PHB5 showed that the strain was able to utilize 99.4 % of 2,400 mg l?1 phenol as sole source of carbon and energy within 48 h. Strain PHB5 was also observed to grow on 18 various aromatic hydrocarbons. Haldane model was used to fit the exponential growth data and the following kinetic parameters were obtained: μ max?=?0.3407 h?1, K S?=?15.81 mg l?1, K i?=?169.0 mg l?1 (R 2?=?0.9886). The true specific growth rate, calculated from μ max, was 0.2113. A volumetric phenol degradation rate (V max) was calculated by fitting the phenol consumption data with Gompertz model and specific degradation rate (q) was calculated from V max. The q values were fitted with Haldane model, yielding following parameters: q max?=?0.2766 g g?1 h?1, K S ?=?2.819 mg l?1, K i ?=?2,093 (R 2?=?0.8176). The yield factor (Y X/S ) varied between 0.185 to 0.96 g g?1 for different initial phenol concentrations. Phenol degradation by the strain proceeded through a pathway involving production of intermediates such as catechol and cis,cis-muconic acid which were identified by enzymatic assays and HPLC analysis.  相似文献
