Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are fully fluorinated organic compounds, which have been used in many industrial processes and have been detected in wastewater and sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) around the world. This study focused on the occurrences of PFCs and PFCs mass flows in the industrial wastewater treatment plants, which reported to be the important sources of PFCs. Surveys were conducted in central wastewater treatment plant in two industrial zones in Thailand. Samples were collected from influent, aeration tank, secondary clarifier effluent, effluent and sludge. The major purpose of this field study was to identify PFCs occurrences and mass flow during industrial WWTP. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) coupled with HPLC-ESI-MS/MS were used for the analysis. Total 10 PFCs including perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluoropropanoic acid (PFPA), perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA), perfluorohexane sulfonate (PFHxS), perfluoronanoic acid (PFNA), perfluordecanoic acid (PFDA), perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnA), and perfluorododecanoic acid (PFDoA) were measured to identify their occurrences. PFCs were detected in both liquid and solid phase in most samples. The exceptionally high level of PFCs was detected in the treatment plant of IZ1 and IZ2 ranging between 662-847 ng L−1 and 674-1383 ng L−1, respectively, which greater than PFCs found in most domestic wastewater. Due to PFCs non-biodegradable property, both WWTPs were found ineffective in removing PFCs using activated sludge processes. Bio-accumulation in sludge could be the major removal mechanism of PFCs in the process. The increasing amount of PFCs after activated sludge processes were identified which could be due to the degradation of PFCs precursors. PFCs concentration found in the effluent were very high comparing to those in river water of the area. Industrial activity could be the one of major sources of PFCs contamination in the water environment. 相似文献

In early April 2011, radiostrontium was accidentally released from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to the Pacific coast of eastern Japan. We developed a simple procedure to analyze radiostrontium levels in marine mussels (Septifer virgatus) and seawater using crown ether (Sr Resin; Eichrom). Then, we used our method to describe the spatial and temporal distribution of radiostrontium in mussels and seawater on the Pacific coast of eastern Japan from 2011 to 2013 and for 2015. Activity of 90Sr in mussels and seawater decreased with distance from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and between 2011 and 2013 tended to be higher in areas south of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant than to the north of it. Activity in mussels and seawater also tended to decrease from 2011 to 2013 and by 2015 had reached levels experienced prior to the Fukushima accident. Our results suggest that radiostrontium discharged from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant was dispersed by coastal currents in a southerly direction along the Pacific coast of eastern Japan from 2011 to 2013, following which its activity decreased to background levels by 2015. 相似文献

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin, polychlorinated dibenzofuran and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyl concentrations in human liver, kidney, fat, blood, muscle, richly perfused tissue (brain, lung etc.) and skin were simulated to assess the health risk for Japanese fetuses. A 40-year time course of dioxin accumulation via food ingestion was simulated using a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model. In richly perfused tissue, the concentration estimated by the PBPK model showed better agreement with measured concentrations than that calculated by the one-compartment model. Fetal dioxin concentration was simulated based on the assumption that the fetal concentration was almost equal to the concentration in the mother's richly perfused tissue. To assess the reproductive risk, the estimated concentration in human fetus was compared with that in rat fetus in which reproductive function showed signs of alteration by 2,3,7,8-TCDD in previous reports [Toxicol. Appl. Pharmacol. 114 (1992) 118; 146 (1997) 11; Toxicol. Sci. 53 (2000) 411; 57 (2000) 275]. The present daily intake of 2,3,7,8-TCDD is approximately 1/50 of the amount that leads to possible reproductive toxicity in the next generation. However, when 29 kinds of dioxin congeners are considered, the present level is 1/5 of the hazardous levels. For species extrapolation of dioxin risk, further study on tissue concentration versus toxicity is required. 相似文献

为了了解北京大气降水的化学组成与时间变化特征,连续进行了2年的降雨采样与分析.在65个降雨样品中,12%的降水呈酸性;全年降水的酸度主要取决于夏季的降水.SO42-、NH4+与Ca2+是含量最丰富的组分,其平均浓度均接近或超过200礶q/L.比较分析表明,在近几年,SO42-对降水酸度的贡献显著降低,降水的硫污染特征减弱,而No3-的贡献显著增加.人为污染元素和地壳元素的浓度均在冬春季较高,在夏季最低. 相似文献

A new process for the removal of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] contaminated soil is described. The process provides for an efficient removal of anionic chemicals from contaminated soils. Chromate anions were removed from the soil to the anodic reservoir by the moving force of electromigration. In this process, the chromate anions that accumulate in the anodic reservoir are simultaneously eliminated by using a column packed adsorbent. The adsorbent (immobilized tannin) used was chemically incorporated into cellulose. Cr(VI) was found to be adsorbed to this adsorbent efficiently. In the electrokinetic process, the pH of the aqueous solution in the anodic reservoir was decreased by the electrolysis of water. In the present study, the pH of the solution in the anodic reservoir is maintained at pH 6 by the addition of an aqueous alkaline solution during the electrokinetic process. The advantage of pH control is that it promotes the release of Cr(VI) from the soil by electromigration, thus permitting the maximum adsorption of Cr(VI) on the immobilized tannin. In vehicle-pedestrian collisions, lower extremities of pedestrians are frequently injured by vehicle front structures. In this study, a finite element (FE) model of THUMS (total human model for safety) was modified in order to assess injuries to a pedestrian lower extremity. Dynamic impact responses of the knee joint of the FE model were validated on the basis of data from the literature. Since in real-world accidents, the vehicle bumper can impact the lower extremities in various situations, the relations between lower extremity injury risk and impact conditions, such as between impact location, angle, and impactor stiffness, were analyzed. The FE simulation demonstrated that the motion of the lower extremity may be classified into a contact effect of the impactor and an inertia effect from a thigh or leg. In the contact phase, the stress of the bone is high in the area contacted by the impactor, which can cause fracture. Thus, in this phase the impactor stiffness affects the fracture risk of bone. In the inertia phase, the behavior of the lower extremity depends on the impact locations and angles, and the knee ligament forces become high according to the lower extremity behavior. The force of the collateral ligament is high compared with other knee ligaments, due to knee valgus motions in vehicle-pedestrian collisions. 相似文献

The dechlorination reaction pathways of 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9-octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (OCDD) by the hydrogen atom are investigated by the density-functional theory B3PW91 method. The dechlorination reactions have large exothermicity and small activation energies. The activation energies (approximately 5 kcal/mol) of the sigma-complex formation due to the hydrogen addition are lower than those (approximately 9 kcal/mol) of the direct chlorine abstraction. It is suggested that the sigma-complex plays an important role in the reactions, although it has scarcely been shown in previous studies of the dechlorination of dioxins. The sigma-complex formation is favored at low temperatures and the chlorine abstraction is favored at high temperatures. Furthermore, it is found that the lateral positions have a marginal preference over the longitudinal positions. The dechlorination of OCDD by the hydrogen atom is thus not likely to result in a dominant formation of the laterally substituted toxic congeners. 相似文献

The extinction probability is one of the most useful endpoints that are utilized in conservation biology. A parallel approach is advocated for the ecological risk assessment of chemical pollutants. The presented framework estimates extinction probability induced by pollutant chemicals in order to evaluate ecological hazards of pollution, and is applicable to any biological community (aquatic or terrestrial). The analytical framework, which is based on stochastic population dynamics theory, is briefly explained. The extinction risk estimation is feasible if ecotoxicological data concerning pollutant effects on population growth rate of organisms (the intrinsic rate of natural increase), and if environmental exposure concentration is provided.
