One of the most important considerations in baghouse operation is the effect of bag failure on outlet loading. This information would be Of use to equipment manufacturers, users, and regulatory officials. Unfortunately, little information is available in the literature on this aspect of baghouse performance. Equations describing changes in outlet loading resulting from the sudden rupture of one or more bags are developed from first principles. Calculated results from these equations are presented in the form of a chart which can very quickly and simply be used to obtain a numerical value for a revised outlet loading resulting from bag failure(s) for a variety of system conditions. Due to an assumption made in the derivation, the new outlet loading thus obtained represents the maximum increase (worst case conditions) to be expected from the rupture of one or more bags. The following variables are included in the analysis: inlet loading, outlet loading (prior to bag failure), number of bag failures, bag diameter, system pressure drop; and gas temperature.  相似文献

The engineering, construction, performance and running costs of a catalytic flue gas cleaning component in the low dust area of a municipal waste incinerator is discussed. For this purpose, the case study of a Flemish incineration plant is presented, covering the history, the design procedure of the catalyst, relevant process data and the financial aspects. A reliable PCDD/F-destruction by means of oxidation by the catalyst to typical values of 0.001 ng TEQ/Nm3 has been demonstrated. At the same time, NOx- and CO-emissions are reduced by 90% and 20% to about 50 mg/Nm3 and below 10 mg/Nm3, respectively.  相似文献

This paper examines various health effects of photochemical air pollution in Japan, primarily through the review of epidemiological studies. Health effects discussed include subjective respiratory symptoms, respiratory function testing, ocular effects, and hospital diagnostic tests. The downward trend in oxidant cautions and paralleled health effects, as reported by the Japanese Environmental Agency, are discussed. The application of an improved method based on multidetector gas chromatography to the determination of trace levels of organoarsines in complex matrices is described. The method using headspace-mode solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was applied to a carefully sampled and preserved freshwater sediment core obtained from central Green Bay, Lake Michigan. The sediment core was collected and fractionated in an inert atmosphere. A carboxen/ polydimethylsiloxane-coated SPME fiber (85 microm film thickness) was equilibrated (n = 4) for 60 min at 25 degrees C in the headspace of the sample vessel before introduction to the chromatograph. Conventional quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometry (electron impact ionization), electron capture detection, and pulsed flame photometric detection (arsenic mode) were employed for structure elucidation. A heretofore unidentified species in this region, dimethylchloroarsine (DMCA). was identified. The mass spectrum for DMCA is interpreted based on the observed fragmentation pattern. A bimodal vertical distribution of DMCA in the sediment core sample was observed and its interpretation based on Pb-210 dating is reported.  相似文献

This paper uses an environmental partitioning model to evaluate the concentration of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) in various environmental media. These concentrations are then used to estimate the amount of TCDD entering the food chain and the average daily intake of TCDD by the general population of the US. The food chain accounts for 98% of human exposure to TCDD. The model estimated the average daily intake of TCDD to be 0.05 ng/day.  相似文献

Techniques were developed to sample and analyze the Cr content of participate samples with emphasis on determining the concentration of the carcinogen Cr+6. Cr+6 is extracted to alkaline solution and analyzed colorimetrically. Residual particles are extracted with acid solution to remove soluble Cr+3, which is determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. This methodology was tested on samples from three diverse types of sources: a ferrochrome smelter, a chemical plant, and a refractory brick plant. Identical quadruplicate samples were collected to determine accuracy and precision of the collection and analysis procedures, and extraction of Cr+6 and Cr+3. A statistical analysis revealed that the precision of Cr+6 analysis is comparable to that of the particulate mass determination. The stability of Cr+6 In particulate form and in solution was determined. Size resolved particulate samples were collected to determine the particle size versus the Cr+6 content. At the ferrochrome smelter and the chemical plant the majority of the Cr+6 was contained in the respirable particles. The accuracy and completeness of the chemical methods employed were verified by neutron activation analysis, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopyenergy dispersive x-ray analysis.  相似文献

Incidental exposure to high explosive compounds can cause subtle health effects to which a population could be more susceptible than injury by detonation. Proper source characterization is a key requirement in the conduct of risk assessments. For nonvolatile solid explosives, dissolution is one of the primary mechanisms that controls fate and transport, resulting in exposure to these compounds remote from their source. To date, information describing dissolution rates of high explosives has been sparse. The objective of this study was to determine the dissolution rates of three high explosive compounds, 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), and octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX), in dilute aqueous solutions as a function of temperature, surface area, and energy input. To determine each variable's impact on dissolution rate, experiments were performed where one variable was changed while the other two were held constant. TNT demonstrated the fastest dissolution rate followed by HMX and then RDX. Dissolution rate correlation equations were developed for each explosive compound incorporating the three aforementioned variables, independently, and collectively in one correlation equation.  相似文献
