The aim of this study was to evaluate the importance of biotransformation of paralytic shellfish toxins during the detoxification process in contaminated oysters. Mathematical models based upon the detoxification patterns of digestive gland and other tissues were developed. It was demonstrated that biotransformations do not seem to play an important role in digestive gland or other tissue detoxification kinetics with our data set. Moreover, different toxin transfers from digestive gland toward other tissues were investigated. No significant transfer was highlighted in our data set. These first conclusions were drawn after comparing the results obtained from 13 biotransformations and identifiable transfer scenarios. Finally, to determine a more robust model, all 12 states corresponding to toxic compounds and tissues were aggregated into a single state model. The best adjustment was obtained with a simple one-compartment model based on total flesh toxicity with elimination rate expressed by a function depending on initial concentrations of GTX3 and GTX2 (i.e. the two major toxic compounds found in contaminated oysters).  相似文献

The research presented here was initiated to improve the current knowledge on easily released metals from atmospheric particles. The objectives of this paper were to develop an in vitro method to estimate lung bioaccessibility and to provide quantitative data on metals bioaccessibility. A large set of metals has been investigated (Ba, Cd, Ce, Co, Cu, La, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Rb, Sb and Zn) using two distinct fluids (water and Gamble solution) on four reference materials representing different types of particle sources. Through this study, different parameters such as extraction-time, composition of the leaching solution and solid-to-liquid (S/L) ratios were investigated. The findings obtained for four SRMs suggest that the bioaccessibility is maximized after a 24 h extraction for a range of S/L ratios varying from 1/500 to 1/50,000. We clearly demonstrate that the higher bioaccessibility of metals is obtained with the Gamble solution. Moreover, our results imply that bioaccessibility is speciation and element dependent with percentages varying from 3.3% for Pb to 92.5% for Zn. An estimation of uncertainties of 11% to 30% was obtained for metals bioaccessibility in the four reference materials. In addition, the extraction procedure was validated by performing a mass balance on both soluble and insoluble fractions. This developed method may be used to evaluate the pulmonary bioaccessibility of trace elements present in the atmospheric particles without major artefacts.  相似文献

Fetal anomalies are detected in approximately 2% of all fetuses and, among these, genitourinary tract abnormalities account for 30% to 50% of all structural anomalies present at birth. Although ultrasound remains the first line diagnostic modality, fetal MRI provides important additional structural and functional information, especially with the development of faster sequences and the use of functional sequences. The added value of MRI-based imaging is three-fold: (a) improvement of diagnostic accuracy by adequate morphological examination, (b) detection of additional anomalies, and (c) in addition, MRI has the potential to provide information regarding renal function. In this review, we describe the role of fetal MRI in the anatomical evaluation of renal and urogenital tract anomalies, and we also touch upon the contribution of functional MRI to the diagnostic workup of these conditions.  相似文献

Fusion imaging (FI), the simultaneous display of the same anatomical region using two imaging modalities, has been used in other areas of medicine for both diagnosis and guiding interventions. Examples include positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) imaging in oncology and ultrasound-magnetic resonance imaging (US-MRI) fusion in biopsies of the prostate gland. The underlying principle is to take advantage of the complementary information in each modality to improve accuracy, be it diagnostic accuracy or targeting accuracy in biopsies. For example, PET-CT overlays the metabolic activity of lesions on the superb spatial and anatomical detail of CT. While the historical mainstay of fetal imaging has been ultrasound, advances in ultrafast MR imaging together with advances in fetal MRI over the past two decades, have resulted in the opportunity to explore fusion imaging in fetal medicine. We present an overview of the principles of US-MRI fusion imaging in prenatal medicine, report our local experience, and review the literature in this emerging area. We share our perspective on how FI can improve diagnostic confidence, be used as an educational tool, and potentially enhance guidance in certain fetal procedures.  相似文献
