Thermally assisted mechanical dewatering (TAMD) is a new process for energy-efficient liquid/solids separation which enhances conventional-device efficiency. The main idea of this process is to supply a flow of heat in mechanical dewatering processes to favour the reduction of the liquid content. This is not a new idea but the proposed combination, especially the chosen operating conditions (temperature <100 degrees C and pressure <3000 kPa) constitutes an original approach and a significant energy saving since the liquid is kept in liquid state. Response surface methodology was used to evaluate the effects of the processing parameters of TAMD on the final dry solids content, which is a fundamental dewatering parameter and an excellent indicator of the extent of TAMD. In this study, a two-factor central composite rotatable design was used to establish the optimum conditions for the TAMD of suspensions of fine particles. Significant regression models, describing changes on final dry solids content with respect to independent variables, were established with regression coefficients (usually called determination coefficients), R(2), greater than 80%. Experiments were carried out on a laboratory filtration/compression cell, firstly on different compressible materials: synthetic mineral suspensions such as talc and synthetic organic suspensions such as cellulose, and then on industrial materials, such as bentonite sludge provided by Soletanche Bachy Company. Experiment showed that the extent of TAMD for a given material is particularly dependent on their physical and chemical properties but also on processing parameters.  相似文献

Current levels of airborne polyfluorinated telomers in Japan   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs), a class of per- and poly-fluorochemicals (PFCs), are environmental contaminants characterized by high volatility and are therefore prone to long-range atmospheric transport. In this study, airborne FTOHs were identified in Japan using a newly developed passive air sampler containing activated carbon felts. Air sampling was conducted at 33 sites all over Japan from April to June 2007. 8:2 FTOH, the dominant analyte, ranged from <32 to 2466pgm(-3) (mean: 241pgm(-3)) followed by 6:2 FTOH from n.d. to 768pgm(-3) (mean: 51.6pgm(-3)), 10:2 FTOH from <17 to 113pgm(-3) (mean: 26.8pgm(-3)) and 8:2 FTOAcryl from n.d. to 480pgm(-3) (mean: 25.8pgm(-3)). 8:2 FTOMethacryl was not detected above detection limit (3pgm(-3)) in all samples. The highest concentration of total investigated PFCs was found in Chiba (35 degrees 43'20' N 140 degrees 39'46' E) (2152-3181pgm(-3)). On the other hand, in three locations of Higashi-Yodogawa (34 degrees 44' N 135 degrees 32' E), high levels of 8:2 FTOAcryl (239pgm(-3), 109-480pgm(-3)) were detected, the levels of which were comparable to those of 8:2 FTOH (mean: 175pgm(-3), range: 115-292pgm(-3)). This study is the first national wide-scale survey of FTOHs and 8:2 FTOAcryl across Japan, showing that 8:2 FTOH was ubiquitous in the environment in Japan.  相似文献

This study explores a combined pyro-hydrometallurgical method to recover pure aluminium, nickel-copper alloy(s), and some valuable salts from spent fluorescent lamps (SFLs). It also examines the safe recycling of clean glass tubes for the fluorescent lamp industry. Spent lamps were decapped under water containing 35% acetone to achieve safe capture of mercury vapour. Cleaned glass tubes, if broken, were cut using a rotating diamond disc to a standard shorter length. Aluminium and copper-nickel alloys in the separated metallic parts were recovered using suitable flux to decrease metal losses going to slag. Operation variables affecting the quality of the products and the extent of recovery with the suggested method were investigated. Results revealed that total loss in the glass tube recycling operation was 2% of the SFLs. Pure aluminium meeting standard specification DIN 1712 was recovered by melting at 800 degrees C under sodium chloride/carbon flux for 20 min. Standard nickel-copper alloys with less than 0.1% tin were prepared by melting at 1250 degrees C using a sodium borate/carbon flux. De-tinning of the molten nickel-copper alloy was carried out using oxygen gas. Tin in the slag as oxide was recovered by reduction using carbon or hydrogen gas at 650-700 degrees C. Different valuable chloride salts were also obtained in good quality. Further research is recommended on the thermodynamics of nickel-copper recovery, yttrium and europium recovery, and process economics.  相似文献

Water samples from the Kuwaiti coasts of the Arabian Gulf were used for counting and isolating bacteria capable of growth on low molecular weight organic compounds known to be released by picocyanobacteria. The compounds tested were potassium acetate, sodium pyruvate, fumaric acid, succinic acid, sodium citrate and glycerol. For comparison, the bacterial numbers on glucose (a conventional carbon source) and Tween 80 and crude oil (unconventional carbon sources), as sole sources of carbon and energy were also determined. Sodium pyruvate was, in most cases, the carbon and energy source most commonly utilized by the cultivable surface water bacteria. The most common cultivable bacterial genera on the test carbon sources were Pseudoalteromonas, Vibrio, Cobetia and Roseobacter. Less common genera were Rhodococcus, Pseudomonas and Bacillus. Quantification of heterotrophic bacteria associated with cultures of local picocyanobacterial strains, originally isolated from the Gulf surface water, also revealed that the carbon source most commonly utilized by cultivable bacteria was sodium pyruvate. However, a different bacterial composition was identified, with Alcanivorax, Stappia and Marinobacter as the major heterotrophic genera. All heterotrophic bacteria that grew on sodium pyruvate could also grow on β-alanine, as sole sources of carbon and energy. From this study we suggest that the Arabian Gulf bacteria utilizing picocyanobacterial low molecular weight compounds, particularly pyruvate may potentially contribute to the food web in this aquatic system. In the Hyrcanian forests of northern Iran, reduced-impact silviculture systems, (single-tree and group-tree selection) were applied over a large area, which generated different local habitat structures. The aim of this study was to assess the differences between treated and untreated areas of forest and their effect on avian richness, abundance and diversity (R.A.D). Birds were surveyed during the breeding season in 2009 by 100-point counts, equally distributed in the treated and untreated area. Avian R.A.D was significantly different and higher in the untreated area. Generally, forestry practices cause noticeable changes in canopy percentage, tree composition, snags and shrub number. Treated forest habitats in the area of study had a much more developed understory, fewer snags and fewer large diameter trees. The results highlighted the importance of forest maturity and showed that preventing silvicultural disturbances may not be the best solution for conserving and enhancing biodiversity. Rather, methods such as selective cutting seem an appropriate and sustainable way of forest management. It is suggested that forests should be managed to conserve structural elements which create favorable habitat for bird species, preventing future species losses due to logging practices.  相似文献

Aqueous and flavonoid-enriched extract as well as essential oil (EO) obtained from leaves of Pistacia lentiscus were assessed for antibacterial and antimutagenic activities. Antibacterial activity of different extracts and EO were evaluated against six bacterial strains. A marked inhibitory effect was observed against Salmonella typhimurium, whereas lower activity was observed against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enteritidis. EO showed significant inhibitory effects against Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella enteritidis and Staphylococcus aureus. The antimutagenic activity of the different extracts against Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and sodium azide was demonstrated with the Salmonella typhymurium assay. The number of revertants per plate decreased significantly when the plant extracts were added to the assay system using Salmonella typhimurium TA100, TA98 and TA1535.  相似文献
