The aim of this research is to determine the effects of Izmir Big Channel Waste Water Treatment Project on the sediment quality of Izmir Bay. Wastewater treatment improves the water quality. However, sediment does not respond to this treatment as fast as water column. Monitoring of bottom water and sediment quality is necessary for identification of the recovery of the whole ecosystem. For this purpose, bottom water and sediment samples were collected from three stations which are located in the middle and inner parts of the Izmir Bay on a monthly basis between January 2003 and December 2003. Values measured at stations ranged between; 0.54-12.82 microg/L for chlorophyll-a, 0.09-9.32 microg/L for phaeopigment, 0.05-1.91 mg/L for particulate organic carbon in bottom waters, 11.88-100.29 microg/g for chlorophyll degradation products and 1.12-5.39% for organic carbon in sediment samples. In conclusion, it was found that grazing activity explained carbon variations in sediment at station 2, but at station 1 and station 3 carbon variations in sediment were not related to autochthonous biological processes. 相似文献

The effects of cycle time on the biodegradation of the azo dye remazol brilliant violet 5R (RBV-5R) were investigated in an anaerobic–aerobic sequencing batch reactor (SBR). System performance was determined by monitoring chemical oxygen demand (COD), color, anaerobic enzyme (azo reductase) and aerobic enzyme (catechol 2,3-dioxygenase), and aromatic amine concentration. SBR was operated in three different total cycle times (48 h, 24 h and 12 h), fed with a synthetic textile wastewater. In this study, the anaerobic period of SBR was found to allow the reductive decolorization of azo dye and the aerobic period was found to be effective on further COD removal after the anaerobic period. The percentage reductions in color by the anaerobic stage of the SBR were at 72%, 89% and 86% for the 24-h, 12-h and 6-h cycle times, respectively. Total COD removal efficiencies were over 75% for all operational conditions and about 70% of the COD removal was achieved in the first 3 h of anaerobic stages. During the decolorization of RBV-5R, two sulfonated aromatic amines (benzene-based and naphthalene-based) were formed and detected by HPLC. Aerobic phases of SBR with total cycle times of 48 h, 24 h and 12 h were able to remove benzene-based aromatic amines with removal efficiency of 64%, 92% and 89%, respectively. The results indicated that the best SBR performance in terms of color removal and aromatic amine degradation was achieved from total cycle time of 24 h. 相似文献

Efficient removal of triphenylmethane dyes from aqueous medium by in situ electrogenerated Fenton's reagent at carbon-felt cathode 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Fenton's reagent (Fe2+ +H2O2) has been electrogenerated in situ in an undivided electrolytic cell from the effective reduction of Fe3+ and O2 at carbon-felt cathode for the treatment of aqueous solutions of four triphenylmethane dyes (TPMs), namely malachite green (MG), crystal violet (CV), methyl green (MeG) and fast green FCF (FCF), at pH 3.0 and room temperature. MG has been used as a model among them to study the influence of some experimental parameters on the decay kinetics, COD removal and current efficiency. The results in such electro-Fenton system are explained in terms of the many parasitic reactions involving .OH. Higher efficiency values are obtained with rising organic content and decreasing applied current. The first stage of the mineralization process, involving aromatic by-products, leads to fast decoloration as well as quick initial COD removal that fit well to a pseudo-first-order kinetics. At prolonged electrolysis time, the mineralization rate and efficiency decrease due to the formation of hardly oxidizable compounds and the enhancement of wasting reactions. Solutions of all four TPMs are quickly degraded following a pseudo-first-order decay kinetics. The absolute rate constant (kTPM) for their reaction with .OH increases in the order MeG相似文献

Removal of propham from water by using electro-Fenton technology: kinetics and mechanism 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The removal of a carbamate herbicide, propham, from aqueous solution has been carried out by the electro-Fenton process. Hydroxyl radical, a strong oxidizing agent, was generated catalytically and used for the oxidation of propham aqueous solutions. The degradation kinetics of propham evidenced a pseudo-first order degradation. The absolute rate constant of second order reaction kinetics between propham and ()OH was determined as (2.2+/-0.10)x10(9)m(-1)s(-1). The mineralization of propham was followed by the organic carbon (TOC) removal. The optimal Fe(3+) concentration was found as 0.5mM at 300mA. The 94% of initial TOC of 0.25mM propham solution was removed in 8h at the optimal conditions by using the cathode area to solution volume ratio of 3.33dm(-1). The maximum mineralization current efficiency values were obtained at 60mA in the presence of 0.5mM Fe(3+). During the electro-Fenton treatment, several degradation products were formed. These intermediates were identified by using high performance liquid chromatography, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and ion chromatography analysis. ABSTRACT: The quality of ground water in any aquifer takes its final form due to natural mixture of waters, which may originate from different sources. Water quality varies from one aquifer to another and even within the same aquifer itself. Different ground water quality is obtained from wells and is mixed in a common reservoir prior to any consumption. This artificial mixing enables an increase in available ground water of a desired quality for agricultural or residential purposes. The question remains as to what proportions of water from different wells should be mixed together to achieve a desired water quality for this artificial mixture. Two sets of laboratory experiments were carried out, namely, the addition of saline water to a fixed volume of fresh water. After each addition, the mixture volume and the electric conductivity value of the artificially mixed water were recorded. The experiments were carried out under the same laboratory temperature of 20°C. A standard curve was developed first experimentally and then confirmed theoretically. This curve is useful in determining either the volume or discharge ratio from two wells to achieve a predetermined electrical conductivity value of the artificial mixture. The application of the curve is given for two wells within the Quaternary deposits in the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 相似文献

Individual tree mortality model was developed for crimean pine (Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana) plantations in Turkey. Data came from 5 year remeasurements of the permanent sample plots. The data comprises of 115 sample plots with 5029 individual trees. Parameters of the logistic equation were estimated using weighted nonlinear regression analysis. Approximately 80% of the observations were used for model development and 20% for validation. The explicatory variables in the model were ratio of diameter of the subject tree and basal area mean diameter of the sample plot as measure of competition index for individual trees, basal area and site index. All parameter estimates were found highly significant (p < 0.001) in predicting mortality model. Chi-square statistics indicate that the most important variable is d / d(q), the second most important is site index, and the third most important predictor is stand basal area. Examination of graphs of observed vs. predicted mortality rates reveals that the mortality model is well behaved and match the observed mortality rates quite well. Although the phenomenon of mortality is a stochastic, rare and irregular event, the model fit was fairly good. The logistic mortality model passed a validation test on independent data not used in parameter estimation. The key ingredient for obtaining a good mortality model is a data set that is both large and representative of the population under study and the data satisfy both requirements. The mortality model presented in this paper is considered to have an appropriate level of reliability. 相似文献

In this study, the removal of color, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and aromatic group from one of the azo dyes, Remazol Yellow RR Gran, had been carried out by using one of the white rot fungi, Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Experimental studies were performed in growth media containing different amounts of dye and glucose. Color measurements were done at 436nm wavelength using spectrophotometer while aromatic group measurements were done at 280 nm wavelength using UV/Visible spectrophotometer. As a result of this study the values of the removable color concentration were determined as 10 mgl(-1) and lower. The optimum medium glucose concentration was determined to be 2 gl(-1) during color removal processes, aromatic group measurements were done in samples in the UV region at 280 nm wavelength. As a result of the measurements, it was shown that certain amount of aromatic group remained in the model wastewater at the end of the process. 相似文献
