Simultaneous measurements were made of the concentrations of NO, NO2, and CO inside and outside of a building. The building is located in the Los Angeles area, which is heavily polluted by photochemical smog, and the experiments were conducted at a time of the year when the pollutants in question tend to be high. The results shows that there is a direct relationship between the inside and outside concentrations, and that the phase lag between the concentrations depends principally on the ratio of the building volume to the ventilation rate. Although the outside concentrations of the pollutants in question did not follow the same pattern every day, peak concentrations seemed to be related to “rush-hour” traffic. By reducing ventilation rates during these periods, it may be possible to reduce the concentration peaks inside of the building. The building involved in the current study was not located in the immediate vicinity of heavy traffic, and the indoor concentrations of NO, NO2, and CO did not appear to be very severe when compared to those defined by present air quality standards. Finally, the results support the belief that NO and O3 do not co-exist indoors except in very small quantities.  相似文献

The tape samplers using lead acetate impregnated paper tapes for continuous hydrogen sulfide sampling are subject to a number of errors which can throw considerable doubt on the accuracy of H2S concentrations being measured. The EPA Train for this measurement originally comprised two segments: the front half and the impinger train downstream from the filter proper. The study considers a range of possible effects on the transportation industry, satellite industries, the labor market, and the economy which may be anticipated in the event mass production of unconventional low emission automotive propulsion systems should occur, whether as a consequence of federal intervention, or not. A postulated 1 976 Otto Cycle Internal Combustion Engine equipped with a dual catalyst manifold reactor and other “conventional” emission control devices was compared in detail with a Regenerative Free Turbine Engine and a Rankine Cycle Engine, as specified by the contracting agency. Manufacturing costs, operating and ownership costs, consumer demand, inter-industry effects, employment, resource requirements, and international trade implications were analyzed in depth under a number of plausible sets of policy constraints and parametric variations. Principal conclusions are that conversion over a 10 year period is feasible, that manufacturing cost differentials are less critical than fuel consumption and cost differentials, that industry/employment impacts are minor, and that resource/trade effects are dominated by petroleum imports. Implications for federal policy are discussed.  相似文献

Gross average automotive exhaust emissions data collected by the Atlantic Richfield Clean Air Caravan during the summer of 1970 showed only slight geographical variations when the specific makes were ignored. When considering specific makes, significant differences were found on an average emissions basis. Vehicle population—emission distributions showed wide variations in the 50% population levels and in the percent of vehicles with emissions greater than specified values. Hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) data are given on a gross basis for the 1970, 1968-69, 1966-67, and pre-1966 model year group vehicles. Average HC and CO emissions and vehicle population-Idle emissions distribution curves are included for specific make vehicles in selected areas.  相似文献

Measurements conducted on full-scale hazardous waste incinerators have occasionally shown a relationship between carbon monoxide (CO) emissions and emissions of toxic organic compounds. In this study, four mixtures of chlorinated C1 and C2 hydrocarbons were diluted in commercial-grade heptane and burned in a water-cooled turbulent flame reactor (TFR) under two different excess air levels. No correlation between CO and organic emissions could be discerned. Reasons for this lack of observable correlations are discussed in terms of combustion and chemical reaction kinetic theory.  相似文献

Calculations of pollutant concentrations at various downwind and crosswind distances from an elevated point source are frequently based on diffusion models and parameter values contained in Turner’s Workbook of Atmospheric Dispersion Estimates.1 These calculations can be made much more speedily on a computer or on a currentgeneration, programmable desk calculator, if the values of the horizontal and vertical standard deviations of plume concentrations distributions are stated explicitly as a mathematical function of downwind distance. The alternative is to read the values from Turner’s Figures 3-2 and 3-3 and input them into the calculation for each individual value of downwind distance.  相似文献

Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT) has been marketed as a combustion improver for fuel oil and turbine fuel.
