Seasonal lipid dynamics of the copepod Pseudocalanus acuspes were studied in the Bornholm Basin (Central Baltic Sea) on a monthly basis from March 2002 until March 2003 and were interpreted in light of life cycle strategies and diet selection. The individual total lipid content of females ranged from 0.9 to 1.8 μg, with relative wax ester content reaching a significant maximum in May (44% of total lipids) and minimum (17% of total lipids) in April and November. Significant changes in size, lipid content, lipid classes and fatty acid composition of structural as well as storage lipids suggested five characteristic seasonal phases that were induced by different feeding histories and environmental conditions. Storage lipids were characterized by 18:1(n−9) as major component, which ranged between 44% of total fatty acids in June and 23% in February. The strong coherence between 18:1(n−9) in the seston lipids and the occurrence of ciliates emphasized the importance of ciliates in the diet of P. acuspes. As indicated by changes in the amounts of fatty acid markers, other food sources varied over the year, suggesting an opportunistic feeding behavior. The spring period was characterized by an increase in typical diatom and dinoflagellate markers, whereas other sources, potentially cyanobacteria, became more important during summer. The life cycle strategy is discussed with respect to extant adaptations to high latitudinal habitats.  相似文献

Semarang coastal area has geomorphologically complex processes, such as erosion-sedimentation, land subsidence, and tidal inundation hazard. Multi-years shoreline mapping is considered a valuable task for coastal monitoring and assessment. This paper presents maps illustrating the shoreline dynamic in a coastal area of Semarang-Indonesia using multi-sources spatial data. The segment data has been obtained by visual delineation of the topographic maps Year 1908, 1937, 1992 and Ikonos image Year 2003 as well as digital number (DN) value analysis and masking operation of Landsat MSS Year 1972 and Landsat ETM Year 2001. For the long period of almost 100 year, the shoreline dynamic in Semarang coastal area is dominated by sedimentation process. Shoreline extended to the sea as a result of man-made infrastructure and natural processes. The research's result was satisfactory and the method has proven to be effective considering lack of homogeneous data-series. However, some further improvement regarding geo-processing can be made and the accuracy can be tested in future version.  相似文献

A leachate purification system, equipped with the thin open channel spiral wound modules, is studied in this paper. In Phase I, effluent from an activated sludge process followed by the flocculation/sedimentation process was fed into the landfill leachate treatment unit. After 2 wk of operation, the permeate flux dropped dramatically, from an average value of 6.5l/m(2)/h to 4.23 l/m(2)/h. The significant decline of membrane flux was likely caused by membrane fouling. In Phase II, raw leachate was fed directly into the reverse osmosis leachate treatment system. An average flux of 7.8l/m(2)/h was maintained at an initial trans-membrane pressure difference of 20 bar, which increased to 40 bar before membrane chemical cleaning. An average recovery rate of 70% was achieved. Throughout the observation in Phase II, an average reduction rate of 98.2% for the dissolved solids was obtained. The reduction rate of COD was greater than 99.5% with a constant level of the permeate COD. Chloride was eliminated by more than 99%, while over 98% of NH(4)-N was reduced. A negligible permeate flux drop was observed after cleaning the membrane effectively. The study shows that direct reverse osmosis membrane filtration with thin open channel spiral wound modules is able to achieve satisfactory results in terms of water quality, process stability and membrane flux. The obtained quality of the permeate quality in this study met the German standards for leachate discharge. At the end of each filtration cycle, the membrane was maintained through alkaline chemical cleaning in order to remove any irreversible membrane fouling. After the maintenance procedure, the membrane flux was found to recover to the initial value.  相似文献

Humic substances, in aqueous bodies primarily fulvic acids, may demonstrate an inhibitory as well as an activating influence on organisms. We present evidence with bacteria-containing algal cultures and with cultures of the nematodeCaenorhabditis elegans. Structural elements of the fulvic acids which may be responsible for such effects are not yet known. Furthermore, the presence of fulvic acids may lead to increases in bioconcentration of xenobiotics. Increase in the toxicity of xenobiotics in the presence of humic substances have also been described. We present studies applying lethal as well as sublethal toxicity endpoints.  相似文献

Zoospores, gametophytes, young sporophytes and discs cut from mature sporophytes of Laminaria digitata, L. hyperborea and L. saccharina were exposed in the laboratory to UV-radiation, with a spectral composition and irradiance similar to natural sunlight, for periods ranging from 15 min to 8 d, and were then returned to white light. Germination of zoospores and the growth of gametophytes were reduced after exposures to UV longer than 1 h, whereas UV had little effect on the growth of young or mature sporophytes unless exposure continued for more than 48 h. The variable fluorescence (F v:Fm) of all stages was strongly reduced immediately after short exposures to UV, but recovered almost completely within 24 h. However, exposure of gametophytes to UV for >4 h resulted in little or no recovery of F v:Fm, whereas >16 h of UV were required to produce this result in young sporophytes, and >48 h in mature sporophytes. Thus, sensitivity to UV-radiation decreased from gametophytes to sporophytes, and with increasing age of sporophytes, but, in gametophytes, growth appeared to be a more sensitive indicator of UV-damage than F v:Fm after 24 h recovery. The responses to UV of the zoospores and gametophytes of all three species were similar, but both growth and fluorescence measurements suggested that the sporophytes of L. saccharina were more sensitive to UV than those of the other two species.  相似文献

This study was designed to assess the degree of exposure to PCDD/F in 56 selected persons living in the vicinity of a former copper smelter located in Marsberg, Germany. The copper smelter was in operation until 1945. In 1991, high levels of PCDD/F were found particularly in materials from the slag dumps (10 000 – 100 000 ng TE/kg). The levels of PCDD/F in blood fat were used as parameters for individual PCDD/F exposure. Since only limited reference data for PCDD/F in human blood were available, blood samples of a reference group were analyzed in the same way. The criteria were collected from a group matched for sex, age (±3 years) and body mass. The median NATO/CCMS-Toxicity equivalency values (NATO/CCMS-TE-values) of the Marsberg group (43,2 pg NATO/CCMS-TE/g blood fat) and the reference group (43,0 pg NATO/CCMS-TE/g blood fat) were similar, whereas the arithmetic mean of the Marsberg group (52,7 pg NATO/CCMS-TE/g blood fat) was higher than that of the reference group (44,4 pg NATO/CCMS-TE/g blood fat). The frequency distribution of the individual TE-values of the Marsberg group was slightly shifted toward higher values. The individuals of the Marsberg group had significantly higher levels of PentaCDF, HexaCDF and HeptaCDF on average than the individuals of the reference group. On the basis of TE-values, the majority of the individuals from Marsberg did not have an increased body burden of PCDD/F. However, some individuals could be identified with TE-values exceeding background levels ranging up to 231 pg NATO/CCMS-TE/g blood fat. Although it must be assumed that the unusual congener pattern found in many of the test subjects is a result of ingestion of contaminated slag material or soil, the findings of this study could not verify this fact.  相似文献
