This research examines the moderating or buffering effects of two social support variables—support from the work group and from the supervisor—on the relationships of role conflict and ambiguity to intrinsic job satisfaction, job involvement and job anxiety. Data were collected from a sample of 89 middle-lower managerial personnel in a large, heavy equipment manufacturing firm in the Midwest. The moderated regression technique was used in data analysis. Significant interactions were obtained between the role variables and both social support variables. The results were in the predicted direction for positive work outcomes (i.e. job satisfaction and involvement) and contrary to prediction for negative work outcome (i.e. job anxiety). Implications of the findings for future research, the management of stress and leadership behaviour are discussed. 相似文献
The concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pd and Zn) were measured in the Bivalves (Modiolus auriculatus and Donax trunculus) collected from the Egyptian coasts of Mediterranean Sea and Brachiodonates sp. from the Egyptian coasts of Red Sea. The average concentrations of the heavy metals analyzed exhibited the following decreasing order: Fe > Zn > Cu > Mn > Ni > Co > Pb > Cd for both Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea. The analyses of Cd, Co, Ni, Pb, and Zn showed higher average concentrations for samples collected from Red Sea than that collected from Mediterranean Sea, while Fe, Cu and Mn showed the reverse results. Fe was used as a normalizing agent for all studied metals and exhibited presence of two locations from each of Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea have anthropogenic inputs of heavy metals. These results suggest that the coastal area in both Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea of Egypt might be considered relatively unpolluted with heavy metal. 相似文献
Methanotrophic based process can be the remedy to offset the wastewater treatment facilities increasing energy requirements due to methanotroph's unique ability to integrate methane assimilation with multiple biotechnological applications like biological nitrogen removal and methanol production. Regardless of the methanotrophic process end product, the challenge to maintain stable microbial growth in the methanotrophs cultivation bioreactor at higher cell densities is one of the major obstacles facing the process upscaling. Therefore, a series of consecutive batch tests were performed to attentively investigate the biomass density influence on type I methanotrophs bacterial growth. In addition, food to microorganisms(F/M), carbon to nitrogen(C/N) and nitrogen to microorganisms(N/M) ratio effect on the microbial activity was studied for the first time. It was clarified that the F/M ratio is the most influencing factor on the microbial growth at higher biomass densities rather than the biomass density increase, whereas C/N and N/M ratio change, while using nitrate as the nitrogen source, does not influence methanotrophs microbial growth. These study results would facilitate the scaling up of methanotrophic based biotechnology by identifying that F/M ratio as the key parameter that influences methanotrophs cultivation at high biomass densities. 相似文献
Nowadays, trends in wastewater treatment by zero-valent iron (ZVI) were turned to use bimetallic NZVI particles by planting another metal onto the ZVI surface to increase its reactivity. Nano size zero-valent iron/copper (NZVI/Cu0) bimetallic particles were synthesized in order to examine its toxicity effects on the wastewater microbial life, kinetics of phosphorus, ammonia stripping and the reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD). Various concentrations of NZVI/Cu0 and operation conditions both aerobic and anaerobic were investigated and compared with pure NZVI experiment. The results showed that addition 10 mg/L of NZVI/Cu0 significantly increased the numbers of bacteria colonies under anaerobic condition, conversely it inhibited bacteria activity with the presence of oxygen. Furthermore, the impact of nanoparticles on ammonia stripping and phosphorus removal was also linked to the emitted iron ions electrons. It was found that dosing high concentration of bimetallic NZVI/Cu0 has a negative effect on ammonia stripping regardless of the aeration condition. In comparison to control, dosing only 10 mg/L NZVI/Cu0, the phosphorus removal increased sharply both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, these outcomes were obtained as a result of complete dissolution of bimetallic nanoparticles which formed copper-iron oxides components that are attributed to increasing the phosphorus adsorption rate. 相似文献
The use of spatial methods to detect and characterize changes in land use has been attracting increasing attention from researchers.
The objectives of this article were to formulate the dynamics of land use on the temporal and spatial dimensions from the
perspectives of the Change-Pattern-Value (CPV) and driving mechanism, based on multitemporal remote sensing data and socioeconomic
data. The Artificial Neural Networks were used to identify the factors driving changes in land use. The Pearl River Delta
Region of southeast China, which was experiencing rapid economic growth and widespread land conversion, has been selected
as the study region. The results show that from 1985 to 2000 in the study region (1) the most prominent characteristics of
change in land use were the expansion of the urban land at the expense of farmland, forests, and grasslands, (2) the land-use
pattern was being optimized during this period, (3) in an analysis of value, built-up land can yield a return of more than
30 times that of farmland, water area, and forests lands, and (4) rapid economic development, growth in population, and the
development of an infrastructure were major driving factors behind ecological land loss and the nonecological land expansion. 相似文献
ABSTRACT: Continuous rainfall patterns are currently simulated by approximating them by stair-stepped (piece-wise) patterns. The effects of this approximation on infiltration and runoff processes are not well known. A new technique for simulating smooth-variable intensity rainfall patterns is presented. This technique is based on the fundamental principles of a moving water head in a container. The proposed technique is general and capable of simulating any rainfall pattern. However, as the rainfall pattern gets more complicated, the equipment required for simulation becomes more involved. The proposed technique has been tested experimentally. A close agreement was found between the theoretical and experimental simulations. It is concluded that the proposed technique might be very useful in studying the infiltration and runoff processes under variable intensity rainfall, especially for simple convex patterns. 相似文献
Sensitive analytical methods indicate the presence of hundreds of chemical contaminants in our environment. However, concentration of these pollutants is usually at the low parts per million or parts per billion level. At such low levels, toxicants induce long-term (chronic) rather than short-term (acute) toxicities. Experiments are designed to evaluate chronic toxicity using early bioindicators. Recently, fish have been used as experimental animals because some species show early (weeks as opposed to years in other research animals), sensitive responses. Thus, medaka (Oryzias latipes), following exposure to diethylnitrosamine (DEN), exhibited liver tumors in several weeks; more interestingly its DNA was modified (to a DNA-adduct) after only 24–48 hours exposure. Such adducts show promise as early bioindicators because they are formed within hours of exposure. The formation of DNA-adducts were monitored in medaka and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) exposed to DEN by aqueous or intra-peritoneal routes. Using HPLC-Fluorimetry, O6-ethylguanine (O6-EtGua) was detected and monitored in acid thermal hydrolysates of DNA isolates. (Detection limit for O6-EtGua was as low as 3 ng, 1.7×10-11 moles). Fourier transform cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry with IR laser desorption/ionization was used advantageously to establish the structure of nucleotides, bases and nucleosides directly, without further cumbersome derivatizations. Other aspects of DNA-adducts are discussed. 相似文献

The South American country Brazil is one of the richest countries in terms of natural resources, representing 14 percent of the world’s total biocapacity. However, the biocapacity (biosphere’s ability to generate resources and sequester waste) per capita in Brazil has shown a massive decline over the last five decades, while economic growth and urbanization have rapidly increased for the same period. Brazil is one of the largest creditors of biocapacity to the world, and biocapacity loss in Brazil can lead to devastating environmental consequences. Therefore, this work empirically investigates the influence of urbanization, economic growth, and industrialization on biocapacity controlling human capital from 1961 to 2016 in Brazil. The Bayer and Hack cointegration test, the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique, and Hacker and Hatemi-J (J Econ Stud 39:144–160, 2012) causality tests are employed. The findings unfolded a U-shaped relationship between economic growth and biocapacity, evidencing that economic growth reduces biocapacity, but after achieving a threshold level, it promotes biocapacity. Urbanization has a negative relationship with biocapacity per capita, indicating that urbanization is a significant driver of the biocapacity loss in Brazil. Further, urbanization and economic growth Granger cause biocapacity. Lastly, relevant policy implications are proposed to overcome the reduction in biocapacity.
A gram-negative psychrophilic bacterium, with potential for biodegradation of long-chain n-alkanes was isolated from ice samples collected in Spitzbergen, Denmark. On the basis of results of biochemical and morphological
tests and sequence analysis of 16S rRNA, the strain was identified as Pseudomonasfrederiksbergensis. In this work, a short-chain NAD+-dependent alcohol dehydrogenase (alcDH) (Accession number: AAR13804) from the P.frederiksbergensis was cloned and transformed in E. coli BL21 (3DE) competent cells. The alcDH activity was highest in the crude extract of cells induced with 1.0 mM IPTG. The recombinant
alcDH enzyme was purified to 93.4% homogeneity using three consecutive purification steps including ammonium sulphate, Q-Sepharose
Fast Flow column and gel filtration chromatography employing Superdex 200 10/30 HR column. Enzyme enrichment and yield levels
of 31.4 folds and 25.5%, respectively, were achieved. While the subunit molecular mass of the enzyme was determined on SDS-PAGE
to be ~38 kDa, the aggregated native form of the enzyme had a molecular mass of ~238 kDa by gel filtration analysis. Reaction
conditions optima for the recombinant alcDH were determined with propan-1-ol as the substrate. While the optimum pH was 9,
the optimum temperature was 35 °C. The alcDH enzyme exhibited moderate thermal stability with half-lives of 150 min at 55 °C,
27 min at 65 °C and 8 min at 75 °C. Results for kinetic parameters indicated that the apparent Km value for alcDH with propan-1-ol as the substrate was found to be 1.42 mM and the Vmax value was 0.63 mmol mg−1 min−1. Experimental evidence revealed that the recombinant alcDH exhibited a wide range of substrate specificity, with higher levels
of specific activity for aliphatic alcohols as compared to secondary alcohols. Taken together, the present study highlights
the potential of alcDH as a member of cold-adapted enzymes in several key biotechnological applications including environmental
bioremediation and biotransformations. It is envisaged that, with the ongoing screening of microorganisms and metagenomes,
directed evolution approaches and the subsequent overexpression of recombinant proteins, more enzymes will be found that are
suitable for bioremediation purposes. 相似文献
