Abstract

Atrazine (6‐chloro‐N‐ethyl‐N'‐isopropyl‐1,3,5‐triazinedyl‐2,4‐diamine) was treated with ozone alone and in combination with hydrogen peroxide or UV radiation in three surface waters. Experiments were carried out in two bubble reactors operated continously. Variables investigated were the ozone partial pressure, temperature, pH, mass flow ratio of oxidants fed: hydrogen peroxide and ozone and the type of oxidation including UV radiation alone. Residence time for the aqueous phase was kept at 10 min. Concentrations of some intermediates, including deethylatrazine, deisopropylatrazine and deethyldeisopropylatrazine, were also followed. The nature of water, specifically the alkalinity and pH were found to be important variables that affected atrazine (ATZ) removal. Surface waters with low alkalinity and high pH allowed the highest removal of ATZ to be reached. There was an optimum hydrogen peroxide to ozone mass flow ratio that resulted in the highest ATZ removal in each surface water treated. This optimum was above the theoretical stoichiometry of the process. Therefore, to reach the maximum removal of ATZ in a O3/H2O2 process, more hydrogen peroxide was needed in the surface waters treated than in ultrapure water under similar experimental conditions. In some cases, UV radiation alone resulted in the removal of ATZ higher than ozonation alone. This was likely due to the alkalinity of the surface water. Ozonation and UV radiation processes yield different amounts of hydrogen peroxide. Combined ozonations (O3/H2O2 and O3/UV) lead to ATZ removals higher than single ozonation or UV radiation but the formation of intermediates was higher.  相似文献

Introduction

Photochemical ozone pollution of the lower troposphere (LT) is a very complex process involving meteorological, topographic emissions and chemical parameters. Ozone is considered the most important air pollutant in rural, suburban and industrial areas of many sites in the world since it strongly affects human health, vegetation and forest ecosystems, and its increase during the last decades has been significant. In addition, ozone is a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. For these reasons, it is necessary to carry out investigations that determine the behaviour of ozone at different locations. The aim of this work is to understand the levels and temporal variations of surface ozone in an industrial-urban region of the Southwest Iberian Peninsula.  相似文献

A monitoring programme was carried out on wastewater, surface and drinking water on the NW area of Spain during the four seasons of a year period (November 2007-September 2008). This study covered a series of emerging pollutants of different classes, including pharmaceuticals, neutral and acidic organophosphorus flame retardant/plasticizers (OPs), triclosan, phenoxy-herbicides, insect repellents and UV filters. From the total set of 53 compounds, 19 were found in raw wastewater with median concentrations higher than 0.1 μg L−1. Among them, salicylic acid, ibuprofen and the UV filter benzophenone-4 (BP-4) were the most concentrated, exceeding the 1 μg L−1 median value. Subsequently, 11 of these contaminants are not efficiently enough removed in the small WWTPs tested and their median concentrations in effluents still surpassed the 0.1 μg L−1, so that they can spread through surface water. These chemicals are the pharmaceuticals naproxen, diclofenac and atenolol; the OPs tri(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tri(chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP), tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP), diphenyl phosphate (DPhP) and diethylhexyl phosphate (DEHP); and the sulphonate UV filters BP-4 and 2-phenylbenzimidazole-5-sulphonic acid (PBSA). These OPs were then the dominant emerging pollutants occurring in surface and drinking water, where they are detected in the 20-200 ng L−1 range. Pharmaceuticals and UV filters are typically below the 10 ng L−1 level. Finally, herbicides were only detected in the last sampling campaign under the 100 ng L−1 drinking water European Union limit.  相似文献

In order to improve our knowledge of the surface ozone in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, annual, monthly, weekly and daily ozone concentrations have been closely monitored in the Seville metropolitan area highlighting those episodes that exceed the European Ozone Directive. A three-year period (2003-2005) and eight ozone stations were used; five of them located in the city's busiest areas and the rest in adjacent zones ( approximately 25km). In addition, the wind regime was also studied in order to understand the main characteristics of the surface atmospheric dynamics. The lowest ozone concentrations 17-33microgm(-3) took place in January while the highest 57-95microgm(-3) occurred in June. The ozone concentration week-weekend differences from May to September indicate that this phenomenon does not affect the ozone stations analysed. Daily cycles show minimum values between 7:00 and 8:00 UTC and maximum at noon, exceeding 90microgm(-3) during summer months. From March to October the ozone concentrations were above the target value for the protection of human health, especially during the summer months, with values up to 30% over the limit. The information threshold has been exceeded at all ozone stations studied but with greater frequency in the stations far from the city centre. In addition, at these latter stations the alert threshold was also exceeded on six occasions. This study in the city of Seville indicates that the high ozone levels are due to local atmospheric effects, mainly since the ozone air masses may undergo recirculation processes. The ozone is transported to the city from the S-SW, having a major impact in the NE areas.  相似文献
