In vitro biotransformation rates of tetrachlorobenzyltoluene (TCBT) isomers 3,3',4,4'-Cl4-2-Me (TCBT 87), 3,3',4,4'-Cl4-5-Me (TCBT 88), and 3,3',4',5-Cl4-4-Me (TCBT 94) were determined using trout and rat hepatic microsomes. The disappearance of the TCBTs from the in vitro system followed first-order kinetics. The estimated biotransformation constants (k) for the rat ranged from 0.96 to 4.14 h(-1). Biotransformation rates for trout microsomes were much lower and ranged from 0.009 to 0.017 h(-1).  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) contaminated ground water has proven to be exceptionally difficult to remediate for both physical and chemical reasons. Since DNAPL's are denser than water, their movement is not governed by the direction of ground water flow as is generally the case for other ground water contaminants. Additionally, DNAPLs' interactions with aquifer solids through processes such as sorption tend to make the pollution linger or sometimes apparently disappear, only to return later. Unfortunately, pump-and-treat systems, the traditional way ground water contamination is addressed, have not been effective in cleaning DNAPL contaminated water. Other remediation technologies continue to be developed to address these problems. Policy changes will also be necessary to effectively address the difficulties associated with ground water remediation.  相似文献

Vertebrate visual cells represent a system in an extraordinarily dynamic state. Major parts of the photoreceptors are continually degraded and resynthesized, thus, the cell's morphological and functional integrity is maintained. Some components of visual cell renewal processes follow an endogenous, circadian rhythm driven by an ocular oscillator. Regulative mechanisms of these circadian rhythms may comprise interactions between the neurohormone melatonin and the putative retinal neurotransmitter and neuromodulator dopamine.  相似文献

We studied 201 pregnancies that were established by in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF–ET) and compared the frequency of cytogenetic abnormalities with that found in a large control population matched for indication group (advanced maternal age) and time of sampling. A total of 252 IVF–ET fetuses were cytogenetically analysed by either chorionic villus sampling (CVS; n = 80) or amniocentesis (n = 172). Eleven chromosome abnormalities were found in the CVS group (13·8 per cent); among them, a 45, X/46, X, dic(q11)/46, X, del(Y)(q11) mosaic that was found in an IVF pregnancy established by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), four cases of trisomy 21, and three cases of trisomy 7 confined to the placenta. The results indicate a statistically significant three-to five-fold increase in both confined placental abnormalities (P<0·008) and true fetal chromosome anomalies (P<0·04). In the amniocentesis group, identical rates (1·7 per cent) of chromosome abnormalities were found in the IVF–ET and control groups. It is concluded that late first trimester, but not early second trimester, IVF–ET pregnancies are characterized by an increased frequency of cytogenetic abnormalities found at prenatal diagnosis.  相似文献

Trisomy 18 in direct chorionic villus preparations needs further investigation since the chromosome abnormality may be confined to the placenta and may not represent the actual fetal karyotype. We performed, retrospectively, fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) with the chromosome 18 centromere probe (L1.84) on interphase nuclei of destained slides of all cases of full trisomy 18 (n=22) and mosaic trisomy 18 (n=8) detected among 7600 first-trimester chorionic villus samples during an 8-year period (1985–1992). More nuclei displaying three signals were encountered in cases of full and mosaic trisomy 18 confirmed in fetal tissue than in non-confirmed cases. FISH can be useful for the verification of trisomy 18 in direct chorionic villus preparations.  相似文献

The literature on the citrus psylla, Trioza erytreae, published since 1897, is reviewed. The citrus psylla is an important vector of the greening disease of citrus. The stages of development and life history are discussed. Of the factors that influence population size, flushing of the host plants and high saturation deficits are the most important. Methods of population monitoring and control are summarised. The main means of reducing vector numbers and therefore the spread of greening disease, are resistance of citrus trees to greening disease, restricting citrus growing to hot, low-lying regions of the country, and strict vector control in nurseries.
