The cyclization of ethyl 2-(aminosulfonyl)benzoate (ASB) to give saccharin was investigated in aqueous solutions at pH between 5.2 and 9.5 and in the temperature range of 296.2-334.2 K. The initial concentration of the reactant was varied between 1.45 x 10(-5) and 3.86 x 10(-4) M. Ultraviolet spectroscopy was used to obtain the kinetic data. The reaction is acid catalyzed and follows pseudo-first-order kinetics. The experimental rate constant, k(obs), increases with temperature and pH. Its dependence on the temperature and pH is well described by: k(obs) = k1 [OH-] = [(2.52 +/- 0.9) x 10(16) exp(-20.2 +/- 1 kcalmol(-1)/RT) s(-1)][OH-] A mechanism is proposed and the half-life of ethyl ASB is calculated. 相似文献

The Trans-Amazonian Highway (TAH) is located in the northern region of Brazil, comprising a border region where agricultural, mining, and logging activities are the main activities responsible for fostering economic development, in addition to large hydroelectric plants. Such activities lead to environmental contamination by potentially toxic elements (PTEs). Environmental monitoring is only possible through the determination of element contents under natural conditions. Many extraction methods have been proposed to determine PTEs’ bioavailability in the soil; however, there is no consensus about which extractor is most suitable. In this study, we determined the contents of PTEs in soils in the surroundings of TAH after mineral extraction with diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid-triethanolamine (DTPA-TEA), Mehlich I, and Mehlich III solutions. Soil samples were collected in areas of natural vegetation in the vicinity of TAH in the state of Pará, Brazil. Chemical attributes and particle size were determined, besides concentrations of Fe, Al, Mn, and Ti by sulfuric acid digestion, Si after alkaline solution attack, and poorly crystalline Fe, Al, and “free” Fe oxides. Mehlich III solution extracted greater contents from Fe, Al, and Pb as compared to Mehlich I and DTPA-TEA and similar contents from Cd, Mn, Zn, and Cu. Significant correlations were found between concentrations of PTEs and the contents of Fe and Mn oxides as well as organic carbon and soil cation exchange capacity. Biodegradable composites can be produced by the combination of biodegradable polymers (BP) as matrix and vegetal fibers as
reinforcement. Composites of a commercial biodegradable polymer blend and curauá fibers (loaded at 5, 15 and 20 wt%) were
prepared by melt mixing in a twin-screw extruder. Chemical treatments such as alkali treatment of the fiber and addition of
maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (MA-g-PP) as coupling agent were performed to promote polymer/fiber interfacial adhesion so that mechanical performance can be
improved. The resulting composites were evaluated through hardness, melt flow index and tensile, flexural and impact strengths
as well as water absorption. Thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were also employed to characterize
the composites. The polymer/fiber interface was investigated through scanning electron microscopy analysis. The biodegradability
of composites was evaluated by compost-soil burial test. The addition of curauá fiber promoted an increase in the mechanical
strengths and composites treated with 2 wt% MA-g-PP with 20 wt% curauá fiber showed an increase of nearly 75% in tensile and 56% in flexural strengths besides an improvement
in impact strength with respect to neat polymer blend. Nevertheless, treated composites showed an increase in water absorption
and biodegradation tests showed that the addition of fiber retards degradation time. The retained mass of BP/20 wt% fiber
composite with MA-g-PP and neat BP was 68 and 26%, respectively, after 210 days of degradation test. 相似文献

Jackfruit starch based biodegradable films containing lysozyme were characterized for their antimicrobial activity, thickness, solubility, water vapor permeability and mechanical properties. The biodegradable films had good appearance and antimicrobial activity against Micrococcus lysodeikticus. The thickness of the biodegradable films were not affected by the variation in pH, but the addition of lysozyme increased the thickness, the thickest films being those with the highest lysozyme concentrations. The variation in pH of the filmogenic solutions affected the solubility of the biodegradable films, water solubility being greatest at pH 7.0 and with the highest lysozyme concentration. The permeability of the biodegradable films was increased by incorporating lysozyme. The lysozyme concentration and pH variation caused changes in the mechanical properties. The addition of 8% lysozyme increased the tensile strength and Young’s modulus for all the pH values studied. With respect to the release of antimicrobial activity, the diffusion of lysozyme was shown to follow Fickian transport mechanism. 相似文献

Given the excessive use pressure on forests, characterisation of the major users of forest resources can help guide conservation efforts. This study examines whether socio-economic variables explain domestic wood use in an area of Atlantic forest in the community of Três Ladeiras (Pernambuco, north-east Brazil). Socio-economic data were collected from 62 households, and geometric measurements of wood products in each household were taken to calculate the wood volume. An informant in each household indicated the average replacement time for each type of wood use. Data were analysed for static volume (wood volume found at the time of the visit) and dynamic volume (rate of wood consumption, calculated as the ratio between volume and replacement time). Multiple regression analyses were performed to determine the relationships between wood volume (static and dynamic) and the number of species used; independent variables including monthly family income, number of residents, average age of heads of the household, age of oldest household member, average residence time of heads of the household, average education level of heads of the household and education level of the most educated household member. Monthly income was inversely related to the static wood volume (adjusted R 2 = 17.6%, p < 0.001), rate of wood consumption (adjusted R 2 = 23.0%, p < 0.001) and number of species used (adjusted R 2 = 22.3%, p < 0.001) and was the most important predictive variable for these three outcomes. Other factors such as average education level and average age of heads of the household were also explanatory variables of the total rate of wood consumption, as these two variables, together with monthly family income, explain 31.3% of the total dynamic volume. Given the high importance of income in our study, we suggest that future conservation strategies give special attention to the poorest members of the community. 相似文献

The accumulation of lead (Pb) in tilapias Oreochromis niloticus, acclimatized in cement tanks, and fed once a day with pellets of commercial food with lead nitrate, was investigated by square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWV). The head (including head bones, proteins, and brain) was the main target of lead uptake by tilapias, with a small amount in muscle tissue. A high concentration of Pb was found in feces which indicated low absorption by the organism when fed with high Pb concentration. The protective effects of zinc (Zn) against the Pb poisoning, the accumulation of Pb in the heads of the fishes of 107.8?±?3.1?mg?kg?1 and in the viscera of 57.1?±?2.9?mg?kg?1 with consequent decrease of calcium (Ca) concentration, were observed. In spite of the experimental time of 16 months and higher Pb concentration in the dietary food of 320?mg?kg?1, no death of tilapias was observed due to the protective action of Zn. 相似文献
