Commercially known Ahmer oxide paints are prepared from raw material mainly composed of red iron oxides (hematite) and iron oxyhydroxides. The raw material used in manufacturing of Ahmer oxide comes from some localities in southwest Sinai such as Abu Thor, Allouga, and El lehian. The adsorption of uranium and other radioelements on iron oxides could make the raw material (red iron oxides) and their products environmentally hazardous. The studied samples were subjected to radiometric analysis using NaI (Tl) gamma-ray spectrometer. The average activity concentration of U, Th, Ra, and K are 108.7, 458.8, 88.8, and 627.5?Bq?kg?1, respectively in raw material and 136.4, 14.6, 58.3, and 95.9?Bq?kg?1 in Ahmer oxide. High values of activity concentrations of 238U, 226Ra, and 40K were recorded in Allouga and El lehian raw material. High radioactivities of Allouga and El lehian raw material are mainly attributed to the presence of torbernite, zircon, and monazite, in addition to adsorbed elemental uranium in Ahmer oxide. absorbed dose rate (D), annual effective dose equivalent, radium equivalent activity (Raeq), external hazard index (Hex), and internal hazard index (Hin), as well as representative gamma index (Iγ) were determined from the activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K. This study was conducted to assess the retail food as a possible vehicle for antimicrobial resistant, particularly quinolones resistant and pathogenic Escherichia coli. We determined the prevalence and characteristics of nalidixic acid (Nal) resistant E. coli isolates from diverse retail food samples. In all, 70 (28%) of 250 E. coli isolates studied were Nal-resistant E. coli and 91% of these were multi-drug resistant. Plasmid mediated quinolone resistance genes were identified in 32 isolates, including aac(6′)-Ib-cr (n = 16), qnrS1 (n = 11) and qnrB19 (n = 7). Mutations in gyr A and par C genes were detected among 80% of the isolates, and the isolates showed substitution Ser83-Leu and Asp87-Asn in gyrA and Ser80-Ile in parC. In addition, three different gene cassettes were identified (aadA1, aadA7, aac(3)-Id) in 18%. Virulence-associated genes stx1, eae, sfa, hlyA and stx2 were found in six (8%), three (4%), two (3%), three (4%) and three (4%) isolates, respectively. E. coli isolates of phylogenetic group A were dominant (64%, 45/70). Pulsed field gel electrophoresis revealed none epidemiological relationship between these isolates. Biosorption of colours is an important technology for treatment of different types of industrial wastewaters containing dyes. The objective of this study was to convert green alga Ulva lactuca to dye adsorbents for wastewater treatment. The importance of commonly available green alga Ulva lactuca was investigated as viable biomaterials for the biological treatment of synthetic basic blue 9 (5-ch1oro-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-5λ4-phenothiazine-3,7-diamine) effluents. The results obtained from the batch experiments revealed the ability of the green algae to remove the basic blue 9, and this was dependent on the dye concentration, pH, and algal biomass. We investigated the equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption, and the Langmuir and Freundlich equations were used to fit the equilibrium isotherm. The adsorption isotherm of basic blue 9 followed both the Langmuir and Freundlich models with a correlation coefficient of ∼0.96-0.99, and the adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model (R2=1.0). The maximum adsorption capacity was about 40.2 mg of dye per gram of dry green algae at pH 10, 25 g l-1 dye and 2.5 g l-1 alga concentrations. Water samples were taken from 12 stations at El-Dikheila Harbour, El-Mex Bay, Western Harbour, Qayet Bey outfall, Eastern Harbour, El-Ibrahemiya, Gleem, Sidi Bishr and Mandara, during January, April, August and November 1995. the area lies between latitude 31˚ 8' and 31˚ 17' North and longitude 29˚ 47' and 30˚ East. the annual mean of chlorinity (11.69-20.5%0), pH (7.9-8.3), reactive phosphate (0.31-2.24 μM), nitrite (0.18-1.98 μM), oxidizable organic matter (1.97-8.95 mgO2 1-1), iodide (21.14-46.74 μg 1-1) and iodate (4.61-2.04 μg 1-1) were measured. Iodide content in water is three times higher than iodate. The rapid growth of industry in Egypt in recent years has made industrial pollution an important issue. During the past decade fish production in some canals and lakes have virtually ceased due to the discharge of industrial and agricultural wastewater. The alternatives under study include effluent treatment before discharge to receiving water. Highly polluted wastewater from a hard board mill was treated using the activated sludge process. Factors affecting the efficiency of the treatment were detention time and organic loading rate. The results indicated that BOD and phenol reduction reached 82% and 94% respectively. when the organic loading rate was 0.1 (kg BOD/kg SS). To develop alternatives to methyl bromide (MeBr) for soil disinfection under environmental Moroccan conditions, distribution and persistence of 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) and methyl isothiocyanate (MITC) were tested in undisturbed soil columns (12 cm internal diameter, 1 m length). 1,3-D was injected at a 15 cm depth and directly followed by metam-sodium (a precursor of MITC), which was applied at the soil surface of the same column using a peristaltic pump. Concerning the distribution of these fumigants in the soil profiles, our results showed that 24 h after treatment, 1,3-D and MITC were concentrated at the 0-40 cm soil layers, and reached the deeper layers 48 h later. MITC and 1,3-D dissipation was studied and the half-life (DT50) measured were 6.5 and 8 days, respectively. Total volatilization losses reached 9% for MITC and 28% for 1,3-D. MITC and 1,3-D volatilization was found to be influence by soil water contents.The results show that by reducing volatilization, photodegradation and leaching of these fumigants a suitable alternative to MeBr use is offered. 相似文献

The distribution of Pb, Ni and Zn in two contaminated soils was determined before and after treating the soils with an EDTA solution. After the EDTA extraction, the proportion of Pb accumulated in the acid-extractable fraction considerably increased, which was related to the greater degree of metal extraction from the other fractions. EDTA was also able to extract certain amounts of Pb, Zn and Ni from the silicate matrix, which implied that these extractable amounts were not so strongly fixed to the residual fraction as previously supposed. As a consequence, after EDTA application, metal content (especially Pb) remained more weakly adsorbed to soil components (more easily leachable), potentially favouring the application of phytoremediation technologies. The extraction recoveries (for only one application) were generally low for the three metals (33-37% for Pb, 5-11% for Ni and 14-19% for Zn), although this fact is an advantage as plants would not be able to assimilate very high mobilised contents of metals. 相似文献
