One of the major problems in copper-producing countries is the treatment of the large amount of copper slag or copper flotation waste generated from copper slag which contains significant amounts of heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Pb and Co. Dumping or disposal of such large quantities of flotation waste from copper slag causes environmental and space problems. In this study, the treatment of flotation waste from copper slag by a thermal method and its use as an iron source in the production of inorganic brown and black pigments that are used in the ceramic industry were investigated. The pigments were produced by calcining different amounts of flotation waste and chromite, Cr2O3, ZnO and CoO mixtures. The pigments obtained were added to transparent ceramic glazes and porcelainized tile bodies. Their colours were defined by L*a*b* measurements with a spectrophotometer. The results showed that flotation waste from copper slag could be used as an iron source to produce brown and black pigments in both ceramic body and glazes.  相似文献

This case study examines the coastal zone problems focusing on the existing conflicts between tourism and commercial activities on the coasts of Edremit Bay, Turkey, and attempts to suggest solutions to these problems. Edremit Bay is a characteristic example of such a conflict in collective use of natural resources. The study area, with its 100-km-long sandy beach, naturally attracts different coastal user groups with different beneficial expectations: in terms of rest and recreation for one group and commercial gain offered in a variety of ways for another group. Significant coastal zone problems exist in the study area. Deterioration of shoreline due to tourism activities and illegal constructions, damage to the coastal ecosystem due to domestic/industrial wastewater discharges and some agricultural activities, and disordered urbanization are only a few of the many problems. The data presented here were partly derived from field study and partly collected from local state or private organizations. In this study, it is emphasized that there is a need for viable economic and environmental strategies to be designated in Edremit Bay, Turkey, in order to provide sustainable resource use. For this purpose, an integrated project together with a relevant planning chart including subprojects is also suggested. The success of a local environmental protection management project depends on active participation of all stakeholders including governmental organizations and nongovernmental organizations.  相似文献

Many problems such as health and environment issues are identified with the use of cutting fluids (CFs). There has been a high demand for developing new environmentally friendly CFs such as vegetable based cutting fluids (VBCFs) to reduce these harmful effects. In this study, performances of six CFs, four different VBCFs from sunflower and canola oils with different ratios of extreme pressure (EP) additives, and two commercial types of CFs (semi-synthetic and mineral) are evaluated for reducing of surface roughness, and cutting and feed forces during turning of AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel with carbide insert tool. Taguchi’s mixed level parameter design (L18) is used for the experimental design. Cutting fluid, spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut are considered as machining parameters. Regression analyses are applied to predict surface roughness, and cutting and feed forces. ANOVA is used to determine effects of the machining parameters and CFs on surface roughness, cutting and feed forces. In turning of AISI 304L, effects of feed rate and depth of cut are found to be more effective than CFs and spindle speed on reducing forces and improving the surface finish. Performances of VBCFs and commercial CFs are also compared and results generally show that sunflower and canola based CFs perform better than the others.  相似文献

This paper documents the culture‐specific understanding of social capital among Haitians and examines its benefits and downsides in post‐disaster shelter recovery following the 12 January 2010 earthquake. The case study of shelter recovery processes in three socioeconomically diverse communities (Pétion‐Ville, Delmas and Canapé Vert) in Port‐au‐Prince suggests that social capital plays dual roles in post‐disaster shelter recovery of the displaced population in Haiti. On the one hand, it provides enhanced access to shelter‐related resources for those with connections. On the other hand, it accentuates pre‐existing inequalities or creates new inequalities among displaced Haitians. In some cases, such inequalities lead to tensions between the have and have‐nots and instigate violence among the displaced.  相似文献
