A study of chemical and sedimentological parameters integrated with benthic foraminifera investigation was conducted along
the northern coast of Gabes Gulf. Thirty-two samples were studied and a total of 68 benthic foraminiferal species were identified.
Heavy metals enrichment factors and total hydrocarbon concentrations showed both metal and petrogenic pollution related mainly
to phosphogypsum, sewage, and fishing activities. Statistical analysis (bivariate correlation and hierarchical cluster analysis)
show a possible control of these pollutants on density, diversity, as well as the taxonomic composition of the benthic foraminiferal
assemblages. The extent to which the population was found less dense and less diversified corresponded to the degree to which
the sediment was contaminated. In these contaminated sites, an increase in relative abundance of opportunistic species such
Ammonia tepida and Haynesina germanica was found. Far from pollution, foraminiferal assemblages are dominated by species characteristic of Mediterranean shallow
water (Ammonia beccarii, Ammonia parkinsoniana, Elphidium crispum, Elphidium williamsoni, Elphidium advenum, Peneroplis planatus, Peneroplis pertesus). 相似文献

An adequate human diet should satisfy the requirements for energy and nutritive components including essential polyunsaturated
fatty acids, essential amino acids, mineral components, vitamins, and fat. The benefits of the fish consumption are, however,
often counteracted by toxic metals such as lead present in fish meat. Adverse effects of toxic metals on the aquatic environment
and human health have aroused increasing interest in recent years. The achievement of an appropriate balance between the risks
and benefits associated with fish consumption has therefore become a key health issue in current research. Therefore, we studied
health impacts associated with the consumption of sardine fish, one of the most commonly consumed fish species throughout
the world. Hepatic damages associated with the consumption of white or red muscle of sardine fish were explored and evaluated
using a rat model. Rats were fed for 60 days with white or red sardine meat. Findings revealed (1) an elevated level of uric
acid in the blood, (2) an accumulation of lead in the liver, (3) an atrophy of the liver, (4) an increase in plasma aspartate
aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activities, and (5) an oxidative stress in the liver, including increased levels
of lipid peroxidation and enhanced activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase. Several abnormalities
were also observed in liver histology. The alterations observed in the animals can be attributed to both the accumulation
of lead and the high levels of purine in the sardine meat. The findings show that special attention should be given to the
health effects associated with high intakes of sardine meat, particularly dark-meat sardine. 相似文献

An integrated system, consisting of Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB)-duckweed-tilapia ponds was used for recovery of
sewage nutrients and water recycling. A UASB reactor with 40 liter working volume was used as pre-treatment unit followed
by a series of three duckweed ponds for nitrogen recovery. The treated effluent and duckweed biomass was used to feed fishponds
stocked with Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The UASB reactor was fed with raw, domestic sewage at 6 h hydraulic retention time. The three duckweed ponds were stocked
with Lemna gibba and fed with UASB effluent at 15 days hydraulic retention time. Nitrogen recovery from UASB effluent via duckweed biomass
represented 81% of total nitrogen removal and 46.5% from the total nitrogen input to the system. In subsequent fishponds the
nitrogen recovery from duckweed as fish feed was in the range of 13.4–20%. This nitrogen in fish biomass represented 10.6–11.5
g N from the total nitrogen in the raw sewage fed to the UASB reactor. The growth performance of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) showed specific growth rates (SGR) in the range of 0.53–0.97. The range of feed conversion ratio (FCR) and protein efficiency
ratio (PER) were 1.2–2.2 and 2.1–2.28, respectively. The results of the experiments showed total fish yield and net fish yield
in the range of 17–22.8 ton/ha/y and 11.8–15.7 ton/ha/y respectively. In conclusion UASB-duckweed-tilapia ponds provide marketable
by-products in the form of duckweed and fish protein, which represent a cost recovery for sewage treatment. 相似文献

The present work presents a study of the biological treatment of fish processing wastewater at salt concentration of 55 g/L. Wastewater was treated by both continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) and membrane bioreactor (MBR) during 50 and 100 days, respectively. These biological processes involved salt-tolerant bacteria from natural hypersaline environments at different organic loading rates (OLRs). The phylogenetic analysis of the corresponding excised DGGE bands has demonstrated that the taxonomic affiliation of the most dominant species includes Halomonadaceae and Flavobacteriaceae families of the Proteobacteria (Gamma-proteobacteria class) and the Bacteroidetes phyla, respectively. The results of MBR were better than those of CSTR in the removal of total organic carbon with efficiencies from 97.9% to 98.6%. Nevertheless, salinity with increasing OLR aggravates fouling that requires more cleaning for a membrane in MBR while leads to deterioration of sludge settleability and effluent quality in CSTR. 相似文献

X-linked hydrocephalus, HSAS (hydrocephalus due to stenosis of aqueduct of Sylvius), MASA (mental retardation, aphasia, shuffling gait, and adducted thumbs), and CRASH (corpus callosum hypoplasia, retardation, adducted thumbs, spastic paraplegia, and hydrocephalus) syndromes are allelic disorders. X-linked hydrocephalus and associated phenotypes are due to mutations in the L1CAM gene, which has been identified as a coding neural cell adhesion molecule. We report two cases of L1 spectrum disorders within the same family. The first case was diagnosed by ultrasonographic examination prenatally and the second case was diagnosed postnatally. Both patients and their mothers carry a novel mutation of the L1CAM gene. In this family, nine X-linked hydrocephalus and five female carriers were found in three generations, and molecular genetic analysis was performed to detect the asymptomatic carriers. Concentration of the some heavy metals (Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn) Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis from Yalova (Marmara Sea) were investigated seasonally. The mean concentrations of Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn in the soft tissues were 4.08 ± 0.67, 5.54 ± 0.59, 156.72 ± 20.18, 3.71 ± 1.14, 2.92 ± 0.51 and 106.23 ± 5.66 mg kg(?-1) dry weights, respectively. There were no significant differences between the metal concentrations among the seasons (P > 0.05). The mean Pb and Zn concentrations were higher than the acceptable limit proposed by International Turkish standards. 相似文献

Sulfated polysaccharides were isolated from two Tunisian fish skins grey triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) (GTSP) and smooth hound (Mustelus mustelus) (SHSP). Their chemical and physical characteristics were investigated. The Analysis of surface morphology by scanning electron microscopy of both sulfated polysaccharides displayed the same shape with netted structure. The antioxidant activities of GTSP and SHSP were evaluated using various in vitro antioxidant assays: 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity, reducing power, β-carotene bleaching inhibition assay (IC50 GTSP = 0.5 mg mL?1 and IC50 SHSP = 0.6 mg mL?1) and DNA nicking assay. Both sulfated polysaccharides exhibited good antioxidant activities. The sulfated polysaccharides showed strong angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitory activities (IC50 GTSP = 0.16 mg mL?1 and IC50 SHSP = 0.18 mg mL?1). These results revealed that GTSP and SHSP exhibited significant antihypertensive activities. Overall, the results indicated that grey triggerfish and smooth hound skins can be used to generate high value-added products, thus offering a valuable source of bioactive sulfated polysaccharides for application in wide range of biotechnological applications. 相似文献
