In soil, chromium can be found in two main valence states: hexavalent Cr(VI) and trivalent Cr(III). In this study, we investigated the impact of Cr on photosynthetic gas exchange, photosystem II (PSII) activity, Cr translocation and accumulation, proline content and alkaloids production, i.e. scopolamine and hyoscyamine, in Datura innoxia. Cr uptake was influenced by its oxidation state and its concentration in growth medium. The plant roots were determined as being the main organ of Cr accumulation. Cr(VI) was more toxic than Cr(III) as indicated by reduction in plant biomass and net photosynthesis. The stomatal conductance showed a similar trend to that of photosynthetic capacity. Cr(III) and Cr(VI) had a different impact on substomatal CO(2) concentration then Cr toxicity was related to its oxidation states. In plants stressed with a Cr(VI) excess, a down regulation of PSII activity was observed with an impairment of photochemical activity. Indeed, the maximum quantum yield of PSII (F(v)/F(m)), the quantum yield of PSII (PhiPSII) and the efficiency of excitation capture by open centers (F'(v)/F'(m)) decreased. Cr(III) had little effects on PSII primary photochemistry, whatever its form induces an increase of scopolamine content without changes in hyoscyamine content in leaves of D. innoxia. These results provide that chromium contamination can change the secondary metabolites composition of leaves, thereby, impacting the quality, safety and efficacy of natural plant products synthesized by D. innoxia plants.  相似文献

The paper presents a comparative analysis of the development and present state of compensation for victims of catastrophes in Belgium and the Netherlands. These two neighbouring countries have both seen legislative changes in this field in recent years, albeit with different outcomes. The paper thus analyses to what extent the two compensation scheme structures allow for conclusions as to the comparative benefits of a comprehensive insurance scheme for natural disasters. From the perspective of law and economics, the evolution of private insurance and public intervention through compensation funds, the preference for private or public solutions and the actual financing of these are examined. Drawing on practical experience, such as the case of flood risks, the solutions are tested in view of incentive-based financing. The paper concludes that the private insurance market is more developed in Belgium than it is in the Netherlands, where the reform process has not yet ended.  相似文献

Given a numerical model for solving two-dimensional shallow water equations, we are interested in the robustness of the simulation by identifying the rate of change of the water depths and discharges with respect to a change in the bottom friction coefficients. Such a sensitivity analysis can be carried out by computing the corresponding derivatives. Automatic differentiation (AD) is an efficient numerical method, free of approximation errors, to evaluate derivatives of the objective function specified by the computer program, Rubar20 for example. In this paper AD software tool Tapenade is used to compute forward derivatives. Numerical tests were done to show the robustness of the model and to demonstrate the efficiency of these AD-derivatives.  相似文献

Many drugs such as beta-blockers have been shown to occur in aquatic environments. Even if adequate ecotoxicity data are not available, it is of primary importance to get informations about their fate in environmental waters, particularly about their photofate in sewage treatment plant effluents (STP). The main difficulties when studying pharmaceutical photochemical behaviour in environmental waters, are linked to the very low environmentally relevant concentrations (ng L(-1) to microg L(-1)) which can generate problems in terms of analytical sensitivity. Moreover, the complexity of environmental matrices can modify micropollutants degradation kinetics. The photodegradation of beta-blockers has been compared at two concentration levels (10 microg L(-1) and 10 mg L(-1)) and in two different matrices (pure water and STP effluent). It has been shown that the concentration does not influence beta-blockers degradation pathways, thus allowing the identification of degradation compounds using the 10 mg L(-1) solutions. Although environmental waters speed up the degradation process, the same photoproducts were appeared in both matrices. Using LC-MS/MS, hydroxyl radical additions have been identified as an important degradation pathway for especially pindolol, propranolol and timolol, leading to several positional isomers, corresponding to mono-, di- or tri-hydroxylations. Kinetics of appearance/disappearance of these photoproducts have been studied in STP effluents.  相似文献

Tolerance to Cu, Cd, Ni and Zn was investigated in a population of the pioneer species Plantago arenaria growing in a metallurgical landfill. Tolerance levels were compared with those of two other pioneer species (Coniza sumatrensis and Verbascum densiflorum) growing in the same location, and with a control population taken from an uncontaminated site. Results showed that the metalliferous population of P. arenaria was more tolerant to metal toxicity than C. sumatrensis and V. densiflorum. Comparisons with literature data confirmed that the metalliferous population of P. arenaria was highly tolerant to Cu, moderately tolerant to Cd and Ni, but not particularly tolerant to Zn. The control population of P. arenaria responded the same as the metalliferous one excepted for Cu, for which it was much more sensitive. This suggested that multi-metal tolerances in the metalliferous population of P. arenaria resulted both from constitutive and adaptative traits, depending on the metal. To check whether P. arenaria was able to cope with high internal metal levels, accumulation patterns were evaluated in pot experiments. Results showed that metals accumulated in roots and leaves, at levels proportional to soil content. Metal content was much higher in roots than in leaves and the leaf:root concentration ratio was kept constant over a wide range of soil metal contents. This suggested that metal tolerance was related to the ability to retain metal ions in roots and to tightly control their translocation to leaves. Finally metal tolerance in P. arenaria is discussed in relation to its pioneer and xerophytic characteristics.  相似文献

It is becoming more common for public authorities in charge of dam construction and management to inform the population living in the area soon to be submerged by a proposed dam. However, populations living further downstream along a river to be dammed, have often been left to find out by chance, despite the fact that the changes to the river flow regime will have an important impact on their lives, sometimes serious negative impacts. This article makes a comparison between two dams, one at Bort-les-Orgues across the upper Dordogne River in southern France, the other the Bagré Dam over the Nakambé (or White Volta) River in south-eastern Burkina Faso. The article discusses dam construction and operation from the point of view of the concerned populations living in the reservoir and downstream areas.
In 2000, a study was carried out in the Dordogne Valley to ascertain downstream impacts of dam operations and information needs of the population. Suggestions from local river users related mostly to improving public information about predicted and actual flow rates and actual flow in real time along the 300 km course of the Dordogne between the dams and the estuary. Such information should be disseminated as widely as possible through available media, including the Internet, and also displayed visibly in key locations along the length of the river.  相似文献
