Starch-based composite films have been proposed as food packaging. In this context, the study of non-conventional starch sources (sagu, Canna edulis Kerr) has worldwide special attention, because these materials can impart different properties as carbohydrate polymers. A thorough study of the matrices used (sagu starch and flour) was carried out. In the same way, thermoplastic starch (TPS)/PCL blend and thermoplastic flour (TFS)/PCL blend were obtained by melt mixing followed by compression moulding containing glycerol as plasticizer. In this study, chemical composition of the matrices and their properties were related with the properties of the developed films. Moisture content, water solubility, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and mechanical and microstructural properties were evaluated in the films. Taking into account the results, the sagu flour has great potential as starchy source for food packaging applications. However, concretely the flour had lower compatibility with the PCL compared to the starch/PCL blend. 相似文献

In recent years, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has attracted a lot of attention from academics and businesspeople as an essential part of any company's ability to thrive. Many research papers had published focusing on CSR. However, very few studies examine CSR's multidimensions (economic, philanthropic, environmental, and ethical) on behavioral intentions with the mediating impact of brand recognition. To explore customer's hotel experiences, the proposed hypotheses were tested with a Structural equation model. Results show that all forms of CSR (ethical, economic, environmental, philanthropic) positively relate to the hotel's brand recognition and behavioral intentions (revisit intention, making recommendations, willingness to pay more). The link between CSR and behavioral intention is found to be significantly mediated by brand recognition. Because of this, the current study has developed a theoretical framework to explain the interplay among CSR factors, brand recognition, and consumer behavioral intention. By checking CSR activities' impact as a focal factor in enhancing hospitality industry facilities, this study offers empirical implications for hotels. 相似文献

Anthropogenic impairment of water bodies represents a global environmental concern, yet few attempts have successfully linked
fish performance to thermal habitat suitability and fewer have distinguished co-varying water quality constraints. We interfaced
fish bioenergetics, field measurements, and Thermal Remote Imaging to generate a spatially-explicit, high-resolution surface
of fish growth potential, and next employed a structured hypothesis to detect relationships among measures of fish performance
and co-varying water quality constraints. Our thermal surface of fish performance captured the amount and spatial-temporal
arrangement of thermally-suitable habitat for three focal species in an extremely heterogeneous reservoir, but interpretation
of this pattern was initially confounded by seasonal covariation of water residence time and water quality. Subsequent path
analysis revealed that in terms of seasonal patterns in growth potential, catfish and walleye responded to temperature, positively
and negatively, respectively; crappie and walleye responded to eutrophy (negatively). At the high eutrophy levels observed
in this system, some desired fishes appear to suffer from excessive cultural eutrophication within the context of elevated
temperatures whereas others appear to be largely unaffected or even enhanced. Our overall findings do not lead to the conclusion
that this system is degraded by pollution; however, they do highlight the need to use a sensitive focal species in the process
of determining allowable nutrient loading and as integrators of habitat suitability across multiple spatial and temporal scales.
We provide an integrated approach useful for quantifying fish growth potential and identifying water quality constraints on
fish performance at spatial scales appropriate for whole-system management. 相似文献

Symbiont-induced male-killing phenotypes have been found in a variety of insects. Conventionally, these phenotypes have been
divided into two categories according to the timing of action: early male killing at embryonic stages and late male killing
at late larval stages. In Drosophila species, endosymbiotic bacteria of the genus Spiroplasma have been known to cause early male killing. Here, we report that a spiroplasma strain normally causing early male killing
also induces late male killing depending on the maternal host age: male-specific mortality of larvae and pupae was more frequently
observed in the offspring of young females. As the lowest spiroplasma density and occasional male production were also associated
with newly emerged females, we proposed the density-dependent hypothesis for the expression of early and late male-killing
phenotypes. Our finding suggested that (1) early and late male-killing phenotypes can be caused by the same symbiont and probably
by the same mechanism; (2) late male killing may occur as an attenuated expression of early male killing; (3) expression of
early and late male-killing phenotypes may be dependent on the symbiont density, and thus, could potentially be affected by
the host immunity and regulation; and (4) early male killing and late male killing could be alternative strategies adopted

Arabic gum (AG) is the most common emulsifier used for beverage emulsions. Cashew tree gum (CG) is a biological macromolecule that has been proposed as a substitute for the AG, although their technological properties comparison is still necessary. The aim of this study was to evaluate an isolation method for CG, and then evaluate CG technological properties in comparison to AG. The CG isolation methodology was improved using a small solvent amount. CG zeta-potential ranged from +8.0 mV (pH 2) to ?9.7 mV (pH 5), while the electric charge in solution of AG ranged from ?2.7 mV (pH 2) to ?28.6 mV (pH 6). As compared to AG, the CG showed a 50 % higher swelling, a 36 % lower oil absorption capacity, a slightly lower (4–8 %) solubility and lower consistency. CG is a feasible polyelectrolyte, promotes lower consistency solutions, and exhibits good swelling property. 相似文献

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is the liquid waste from palm oil mills, and is generally treated using open lagoon technology. However, open lagoons can also be combined with more environmentally friendly technologies. In this study, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to determine the best combination open lagoon of technology (COLT) for POME treatment. The selected criteria were benefit, opportunity, risk, and cost, with sub-criteria further determined based on these criteria. The sub-criteria were revenue, greenhouse gas reduction, employment absorption, corporate social responsibility, co-processing, environmental risk, marketing risk, technology reliability, investment cost, operation and maintenance cost, and opportunity cost. The alternatives were COLT-composting for fertilizer purpose and COLT-biogas for energy generation purpose. Calculation and analysis was performed on questionnaire data using Expert Choice®. COLT-composting proved to be the superior COLT using tentative performance of alternative in this research, with advantages in benefit, opportunity, and risk. The priority weight for COLT-composting was 0.636. Sensitivity analysis was performed by changing criteria priorities. For COLT-biogas to be considered better than COLT-composting, the cost would need to be weighted more than 0.954. 相似文献

Natural aggregates (NA) are crushed and processed in crushing plants after the extraction stage in quarries. In the present study, the aggregates are divided into three scenarios, depending on the production methods. The first scenario considers the production of NA, the second scenario deals with the production of recycled aggregates (RA) with respect to construction and demolition waste, and the third scenario, which is a hybrid scenario, handles the combination of NA and RA by assuming a 50% mixing percentage. In this research, we assess the environmental impacts on the production of aggregates via each scenario, using life cycle assessment; in addition, energy consumption and CO2 emissions are considered as the environmental variables. We conclude that Iran’s current policy with an annual energy consumption of 1.48 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) can have a footprint of 2.88 million tons of CO2 eq emissions per year (the first scenario). Achieving 30 and 36% reduction in annual energy consumption and CO2 emissions, respectively, by the third scenario compared to the first scenario indicates the destructive effect of the first scenario from the environmental outlook. 相似文献

Blending of polylactide (PLA) with low stereoregularity and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane grafted with arms of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether, acting as a plasticizer, allowed us previously to obtain a novel stable elastomeric-like material. The present contribution focuses on the properties of semi-crystalline PLA plasticized with this compound. Melt blends of PLA with 5–15 wt% of the plasticizer, were compression molded, quenched and annealed, which enabled cold-crystallization. The glass transition temperature of the blends and their drawability depended on their crystallinity and plasticizer content. The best ductility was reached at the plasticizer content of 15 wt%; the achieved strain at break was 6.5 (650%) and 1.3 (130%), for the quenched and annealed material, respectively. The latter value exceeded 20 times the strain at break of neat crystalline PLA. The tensile toughness of the annealed 15 wt% blend was 12 times larger than that of crystalline PLA. Moreover, annealing of 15 wt% blend improved its yield strength by 40%. Despite the two peaks of the loss modulus, indicating the two glass transitions in this blend, no heterogeneities were found by scanning electron microscopy, indicating that the plasticizer enriched phase formed instead of distinct inclusions of the plasticizer. 相似文献

The objective of this work was to improve the impact and thermal properties of polylactic acid (PLA)-based biocomposite by appropriate application of cellulosic fiber and a bioelastomer. Biocomposites formulations with fiber contents of up to 20% in combination with a bioelastomer were extrusion-compounded in a twin-screw extruder followed by molding in an injection molding system. Fibers used in the formulations included three types of cellulosic fiber; namely, raw fiber from oat hull biomass (RF), hydrolysis byproduct (ATF) which was the solid fraction obtained from an acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of RF, and delignified fibers (AD30, AD65, AD100) which were the products of delignification of ATF. Formulated biocomposites were characterized for thermal (glass transition and melting temperatures, and enthalpy of melting) and physico-mechanical (tensile and bending strengths, stiffness, impact energy, and water absorption) properties. Among all types of biofibers, RF resulted in poor properties in the biocomposites due to the high hemicellulose content in the structure. On the other hand, the ratio of lignin to cellulose (in the absence of hemicellulose) in the modified fibers did not significantly affect the physico-mechanical and thermal properties of the biocomposites. The elastomer applied in the formulations improved the impact energy, thermal properties, and elongation at break of the composites. However, it adversely affected the strength and water resistance of biocomposites, especially in the presence of hemicellulose. The results indicated that, depending on the application, a wide range of PLA green composites with different physico-mechanical properties can be achieved. 相似文献

Channa argus, a type of snakehead fish native to China, is a popular food fish in certain Asian countries but is a known destructive invasive species in the US. In this study, the two collagens, i.e. acid-soluble collagen (ASC) and pepsin-solubilized collagen (PSC), were obtained from C. argus skin. The yield of ASC was 28.0% and that of PSC was 16.8% on the dry bases. The collagens were identified as the collagen of type I by SDS–PAGE patterns. The Tds were approximately 27.0?°C. Similar ultraviolet spectra of both collagens were observed. Fourier Transform infrared spectra indicated PSC structure had a little change due to the loss of terminal domains by pepsin digestion. The results of XRD proved that the two collagens retained their helical structures. The results suggest that the collagens isolated from C. argus can potentially be alternative sources of vertebrate collagens for use in the food and other industries. 相似文献
