This study is considered as a completion for the carried out previous research on the Egyptian northern coast near Port Said.
An evaluation was carried out for the purpose of analyzing satellite measured wave data, or carrying out preliminary evaluations
for the study area, in the Nile delta coast near Damitta. The available offshore historical significant wave heights from
altimeter measurements are used in this research for the period from 2005 to 2008. In this study waves were transformed from
the offshore area to nearshore, sediment transport volumes were evaluated by applying and adjusting some of the practical
formulae, which are considered reasonable for this area. The study domain dimensions are 50 km long offshore and 15 km wide
alongshore. Wave nearshore transformation is carried out by using the mathematical Simulating WAves Nearshore model (SWAN)
based on seasonal/directional bases. Two seasons are considered in the analysis, which are both winter and summer, to represent
the mean seasons of the year. The three formulae, which are CERC, van Rijn and Boer and Galvin for sediment transport evaluation
are applied in the study area. The reference values were applied for comparison were checked. The obtained rough evaluations
were considered acceptable and can be roughly applied for both research and engineering purposes. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine residents’ perception, knowledge and attitude towards environmental issues and management in the Al-Suwaiq Wilayat (administrative zone) of Al-Batinah North, Sultanate of Oman. For this purpose, a questionnaire was used with questions on issues related to environment and surveyed across 109 households in the Wilayat following a random sampling method in early 2015. The results show that education, health-related infrastructure and unemployment are ranked as most important issues for government attention today and in coming 10 years besides their concern for the environment. Resident’s perceptions on most important environmental issues were concerned about solid-waste pollution, degradation of coastal areas, saltwater intrusion and land degradation. The sources for environmental information, government agencies, local media and schools were regarded as most reliable. Top environmental priorities were suggested to deal with enforcement of regulations, provide effective environmental awareness and education programs. Further, it is suggested that additional studies should be conducted such as ‘State of Environment Reporting’, thereby such reporting, for instance would provide some form of verification of reported behaviour and improved knowledge. 相似文献

Building demolition waste constitutes a major component of municipal solid waste in Kuwait. Over 90% of this waste is currently land-filled, causing extreme pressure on the available land-fill sites. At the same time, the sources of natural aggregates are almost depleted, and there is an increasing demand because of the increased construction and maintenance activities. This article presents the results of a technical feasibility study into meeting this need by recycling the aggregates obtained from building demolition waste for asphalt concrete. The Marshall test, the immersion compression test, the loss of stability test, and the wheel track test were performed to evaluate the asphalt concrete made with recycled aggregate. The results showed that the asphalt concrete produced using an aggregate of demolition waste met all the requirements of local specifications. 相似文献

Transfer factors of (40)K, (238)U, (210)Pb, and (210)Po from soil to some agriculture crops in various locations in south of Syria (Dara'a and Assuwaydaa districts) have been determined. Soil and vegetable crops (green pepper, cucumber, tomato, and eggplant), legumes crops (lentil, chickpea, and broad bean), fruit trees (apple, grape, and olives) and cereals (barley and wheat) were collected and analyzed for (238)U, (210)Pb, and (210)Po. The results have shown that higher transfer factors (calculated as Bqkg(-1) dry wt. plant material per Bqkg(-1) dry wt. soil) for (210)Po, (210)Pb and (238)U were observed in vegetable leaves than fruits and cereals leaves; the highest values of transfer factor (TF) for (238)U were found to be 0.1 for straw of chickpea. Transfer factors for (210)Po varied between 2.8x10(-2) and 2 in fruits of eggplant and grain of barley, respectively. In addition, several parameters affecting transfer factors of the radionuclides were evaluated. The results can be considered as base values for TF of natural radionuclides in the region. 相似文献

This paper puts forward sustainable development indicators and an index appropriate for monitoring and guiding development
planning in the villages of rural Egypt, as an improvement on the current approach which is informed by locally calculated
Human Development Indices (HDI). This has two principal weaknesses. Firstly many of the issues of importance to villagers
are not covered by the economic and social scope of the HDI. Secondly the HDI, along with international sustainable development
indicator sets, fails to identify problems which are of importance in specific national or sub-national contexts. We have
therefore worked from a simplified but holistic model of the socio-economic-environmental system of a rural Egyptian village,
informed by the outputs of a participatory planning process. An indicator set based on a one-to-one correspondence between
system components and indicators was created. This comprehensive set is detailed but consequently rather unwieldy, and a core
set is selected and compared with the HDI indicators for a sample of villages to demonstrate the impact of considering environmental
and institutional factors on establishing priority areas for government intervention. We conclude that a combination of a
locally relevant index and an easily comprehended diagrammatic approach to presenting a small indicator set offers advantages
to decision makers in comparison to local application of the HDI. 相似文献
