Mobility is a matter of great importance in daily life: However, it also causes costs and involves accident risks. To make mobility safer and reduce accident risks, a scientifically based road safety management is needed. Within such a safety management system, a concert of adequate and efficient strategies, tools and measures is developed and implemented. To ensure that the chosen means are efficient they should be derived from research evidence. Secondly, research is also needed to regularly monitor the impact of road safety management tools, serving as a “controlling instrument” for the appropriateness of safety management efforts. This article explains the main strategic aspects of safety management in Germany and illustrates it exemplarily on the basis of two recently implemented road safety measures.  相似文献

This article presents a review of the current municipal solid waste (MSW) and domestic waste generation and recovery situation in Hong Kong and identifies the factors affecting the waste generation rates. The results show that before 1997, MSW and domestic waste generation rates were driven by population growth and growth in the gross domestic product, with the latter having the larger effect. But recent waste generation data show poor correlation between waste generation rates and economic and population figures due to the increase in recycling efforts in the community. The results are also reported of a small-scale survey to explore the public attitude to waste recovery. The results show that most domestic householders have developed habits to carry out separation of waste at source for recycling, but the amount of recyclables recovered was low.  相似文献

Experiments were performed in order to investigate the possibility for the development of catalysts for low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) using municipal waste char and RDF byproduct. Physical and chemical activations, using water, and HCl and KOH, were employed to increase the catalytic activities. The characteristics of the activated catalysts were investigated using N2 adsorption–desorption and FT-IR. The catalysts activated chemically using basic treatment showed higher NO x removal efficiencies than those activated physically or chemically using acidic treatment. The de-NO x performance of the activated catalysts was dependent on the chemical properties, such as oxygen functional groups as well as physical properties, such as specific surface area and pore volume. In order to investigate the effect of MnO x , which has been reported to be efficient for the removal of NO x in low-temperature SCR processes, the chemically activated catalyst was impregnated with manganese. The Mn-impregnated catalyst had the highest NO x conversion at all of the temperatures tested in this study.  相似文献

Permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid pesticide and potential toxic pollutant contaminating aquatic ecosystems, was investigated in the present study for acute toxicity. Guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata) were selected for the bioassay experiments. The experiments were repeated 3 times and the 48-h LC(50) was determined for the guppies. The static test method of acute toxicity test was used. Water temperature was regulated at 20+/-1 degrees C. In addition, behavioral changes at each permethrin concentration were observed for the individual fish. Data obtained from the permethrin acute toxicity tests were evaluated using the probit analysis statistical method. The 48-h LC(50) value for guppy was estimated as 245.7 microg/l. Values in the range of 0.05-97.0 microg/l have been reported for various other fish species.  相似文献

We investigated the influence of mating frequency on lifetime reproductive success in females of the bulb mite, Rhizoglyphus robini. This species is highly promiscuous, and its colonial lifestyle promotes mating frequencies of at least several times a day. We manipulated mating frequencies either by keeping females continuously in the presence of a male, with males replaced every second day, or by exposing females to a new male for 4 h every second day (4 h is enough for a male to complete at least one copulation). We used males that were isolated from females either for 2 days, and thus had large reserves of sperm and seminal fluid, or for 2 h. We found that females with continuous access to a male had lower lifetime egg output than those exposed to males intermittently. This effect was mediated through decreased fecundity and not longevity. Male mating history had no significant effect on female fecundity or longevity. These results confirm that mating frequencies observed in bulb mite colonies exceed those necessary for sperm replenishment, and suggests that frequent mating is costly to females. We discuss possible explanations for the maintenance of mating frequencies that are detrimental to females.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to investigate the application of fly ash adsorbent for removal of arsenite ions from dilute solution (100–1,000 ppm). Experiments were carried out using material from the “Turów” (Poland) brown-coal-burning power plant, which was wetted, then mixed and tumbled in a granulator to form spherical agglomerates. Measurements of arsenic adsorption from aqueous solution were carried out at room temperature and natural pH of fly ash agglomerates, in either a shaken flask or circulating column, to compare two different methods of contacting solution with adsorbent. Adsorption isotherms of arsenic were determined for agglomerated material using the Freundlich equation. Kinetic studies indicated that sorption follows a pseudo-second-order model. Preferable method to carry out the process is continuous circulation of arsenite solution through a column.  相似文献

We report for the first time the distribution and hazard potential of aerosol and metals resulting from joss paper burning. Burning joss paper and incense is a traditional custom in many Oriental countries. Large amounts of air pollutants, including particles, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, toxic metals and other gaseous pollutants, are released into the environment during the burning stage. Many investigations have reported on the emission of pollutants from the incense burning. However, no work has been reported until now on the analysis of the released pollutants apart from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. In this study, a micro-orifice uniform-deposit impactor and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry were, respectively, used to collect aerosols and characterize the toxic metals from joss paper burning. We studied two types of particulate matter (PM): PM2.5 that are particles with a diameter smaller than 2.5 μm and PM10 that are particles with a diameter smaller than 10 μm. PM2.5 are the most potentially toxic particles. Our results showed that PM2.5 are the major component of the pollutants and that the PM2.5 to PM10 ratio ranged from 62 to 99%. The metals Na, Ca, Mg, Al and K were the main species in the aerosol and in the bottom ash.  相似文献

Hematite (Fe2O3) chemical reduction into FeO and Fe3O4 by releasing O2 at high temperatures is considered one of the generally accepted mechanisms for processing waste minerals and clay into lightweight aggregate construction materials. In many case studies, this mechanism has not been strictly confirmed. To verify whether hematite can effectively release O2 at 1,000–1,260°C, a material containing hematite, simulating waste sediments from a Taiwanese reservoir, was shaped into pellets and fired into lightweight aggregates at high temperatures for 20 min and studied with various techniques. As revealed by the X-ray absorption near-edge structure technique, almost all the hematite remained as Fe(III) in the pellets when fired at 1,000–1,260°C, implying a negligible release of O2 leading to the creation of pores. This finding shows that the generally accepted mechanism for lightweight aggregate formation associated with hematite decomposition into FeO, Fe3O4, and O2 is invalid. Furthermore, Fe(III)-containing composites were formed in the fired pellets. Although firing at 1,000°C can trigger the decomposition of the components K2CO3, Na2CO3, and CaCO3 with a release of CO2, the sintering reaction was seemingly too weak to encapsulate the gases effectively. For pellets fired at 1,050–1,150°C, pores grew in size because the sintering reaction sufficed to generate a glassy phase that could better encapsulate gases.  相似文献
