Population dynamics of weeds in successive maize and bean crops were evaluated in two soil management systems (conventional and no-tillage), for two maize applications (grain and silage), and in four consecutive growing seasons. Every year, conventional tillage consisted in plowing and harrowing before sowing. In no-tillage, chemical weed desiccation was made with the mixture glyphosate + 2.4-D. To control weeds, the mixture fluazifop-p-butil + fomesafen was applied on the bean crop in all the planting seasons, and the herbicides nicosulfuron + atrazine on maize after crop emergence (1998--1999, 1999--2000, 2001--2002) and atrazine + metolachlor before emergence (2000--2001). Purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus) was the most important species under conventional soil tillage; while in no-tillage the dicotyledonous weed species (Amaranthus deflexus, Bidens pilosa, Euphorbia heterophylla, Galinsoga parviflora Ipomoea grandifolia) were the most relevant. Regardless of the maize use, the C. rotundus population and tuber bank, with prevailingly dormant tubers, was considerably reduced in no-tillage compared with the conventional system. 相似文献

Many chemical, physiological, and trophic factors are known to affect bioaccumulation of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in biota. Understanding the primary factors affecting fish contamination is critical for predicting and assessing risks to upper-trophic level consumers, including humans. Here we identify PCB contamination pathways that could explain within- and between-species variability in fish concentration levels. Three freshwater river fish species (barbel, chub and bream) were sampled at three sites along the Rhone River (France) where fish consumption is partially prohibited because of PCB levels exceeding the European health-based benchmark. The trophic position was assessed using an innovative approach based on stable isotope analyses and Bayesian inference, which takes into account both isotope data variability and parameter uncertainty. The effect of foraging habitat on fish contamination was addressed using stable isotope mixing models. The fish trophic position and PCB concentrations were found to be unrelated while the exploitation of sediment detrital carbon as a food source appeared to be a critical factor affecting fish contamination. Fish length, PCB concentration of the sediment, and individual fish foraging habitat (exploitation of detrital versus planktonic carbon sources) explained 80% of within- and between-species variability observed in PCB concentrations. These results, obtained for species that have overlapping TPs and exploit different carbon sources, reveal that the important factor in fish PCB contamination is not only what fish consume, but also and essentially the feeding location. 相似文献

A study was conducted at three sampling regions along the Rio Negro and surrounding Puraquequara Lake, Amazonas, Brazil. The aim was to determine the influence of the local effects of climatic and hydrological variables on new malaria cases. Data was gathered on the river level, precipitation, air temperature, and the number of new cases of autochthonous malaria between January 2003 and December 2013. Monthly averages, time series decompositions, cross-correlations, and multiple regressions revealed different relationships at each location. The sampling region in the upper Rio Negro indicated no statistically significant results. However, monthly averages suggest that precipitation and air temperature correlate positively with the occurrence of new cases of malaria. In the mid Rio Negro and Puraquequara Lake, the river level positively correlated, and temperature negatively correlated with new transmissions, while precipitation correlated negatively in the mid Rio Negro and positively on the lake. Overall, the river level is a key variable affecting the formation of breeding sites, while precipitation may either develop or damage them. A negative temperature correlation is associated with the occurrence of new annual post-peak cases of malaria, when the monthly average exceeds 28.5 °C. This suggests that several factors contribute to the occurrence of new malaria cases as higher temperatures are reached at the same time as precipitation and the river levels are lowest. Differences between signals and correlation lags indicate that local characteristics have an impact on how different variables influence the disease vector’s life cycle, pathogens, and consequently, new cases of malaria. 相似文献

Tropical coastal lagoons are highly productive environments exhibiting high biodiversity. However, the use of these ecosystems by local communities is of concern, since this generally leads to environmental degradation. The Imboassica coastal lagoon, located in Macaé city, in Northern Rio de Janeiro, is an important ecosystem in the state, however, already displaying signs of anthropogenic impacts. Carnivorous fish Hoplias malabaricus specimens were sampled from this impacted site, as well as from a reference area. Fish from Imboassica Lagoon presented lower condition factor, lower cholinesterase activity, and higher percentage of erythrocyte micronuclei when compared to fish from the reference site. Metals in fish from Imboassica Lagoon were always higher than Encantada Lagoon, with some seasonal differences, where some metals were higher in the rainy season compared to the dry season in muscle tissue, with the exception of Cu, Fe, Sr, and Zn; and in the liver, except for Ba, Cd, Cr, Ni, and Sr. Cr and Mn in the edible muscle portion of the fish were higher than the limits established by Brazilian and International legislations as permissible for human consumption, thus leading to concerns regarding public health risks for the local population that use fish as their main protein source. 相似文献

Aquatic macrophytes’ decomposition is a source of recalcitrant carbon in the long term contributing to humic substances (HS) formation. Understanding the influence of plant detritus quality and oxygen availability over molecular changes of these compounds provides ecological information related to their cycling. This study described the molecular variation of dissolved HS from Eichhornia azurea, Egeria najas, Oxycaryum cubense and Salvinia molesta decomposition under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The aquatic HS formed from the four aquatic macrophytes showed similar features (e.g. molecular weight and aromaticity). This fact indicates little influence of the detritus quality or availability of oxygen on the fulvic acids (FA) and humic acid characteristics. Under aerobic condition a decrease in the polysaccharides content in FA occurred. HS from E. najas were related to less-recalcitrant features, while HS from S. molesta were related to recalcitrant. 相似文献

The study of stepped spillways in laboratory scales has been essentially focused on two separated sub-regimes within skimming flow. In this paper we investigate the appearance of an unclassified alternating skimming flow regime in a 0.5 m wide stepped spillway which does not fit on these earlier definitions, and which does not occur in a 0.3 m wide spillway. Our aim is to explain the genesis of this unclassified flow which is visualised in the physical stepped spillway, by using 3D numerical modelling. Flow depths and velocities are measured using an ultrasonic sensor and Bubble Image Velocimetry in the wider flume (0.5 m). The numerical model is validated with the experimental data from the 0.5 m wide spillway. After validation, the channel width of the same numerical model is reduced to 0.3 m wide spillway in order to characterise (compare) the case without (with) alternating skimming flow. Both cases are solved using Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes equations together with the Volume-of-Fluid technique and SST k-\(\omega\) turbulence model. The experimental results reveal that the alternating skimming flow regime is characterised by an evident seesaw pattern of flow properties over consecutive steps. In turn, the numerical modelling clarified that this seesaw pattern is due to the presence of a complex system of cross waves along the spillway. These cross waves are also responsible for a mass and momentum exchange in the transversal direction and for the formation of the alternating skimming flow in the spillway. 相似文献
