The objective of this study was to examine the toxicological effect of two major heavy metal pollutants, lead chloride (PbCl2) and cadmium chloride (CdCl2), in the freshwater climbing perch, Anabas testudineus. Fish were exposed to 1.0 and 2.0 mg/L both metals and histopathological changes in gill, kidney and liver tissues were studied. Major changes observed in gill tissue were epithelial lifting, proliferation of epithelial cells, fusion of secondary lamellae, hyperplasia and hypertrophy of mucous cells, and necrosis of epithelial cells. Cell necrosis, degenerated kidney tubules, congestion, lymphocytic infiltration and vacuolation were the major abnormalities observed in kidney tissue. The most conspicuous changes in liver were darker nucleoli, irregularly shaped hepatocytes with dilated blood capillaries, and focal as well as single necrosis. Fish specimens exposed to PbCl2 exhibited pronounced changes in all tissues examined compared with those exposed to CdCl2. A field investigation was conducted at all water treatment plants throughout 11 states and Federal Territory in Peninsular
Malaysia. The sampling points in this study include treatment plant operation, service reservoir outlet and auxiliary outlet
point at the water pipelines. Analysis was performed by solid phase micro-extraction technique with a 100 μm polydimethylsiloxane
fibre using gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection to analyse 54 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of different
chemical families in drinking water. The concentration of VOCs ranged from undetectable to 230.2 μg/l. Among all of the VOCs
species, chloroform has the highest concentration and was detected in all drinking water samples. Average concentrations of
total trihalomethanes (THMs) were almost similar among all states which were in the range of 28.4--33.0 μg/l. Apart from THMs,
other abundant compounds detected were cis and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene, trichloroethylene, 1,2-dibromoethane, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, chlorobenzene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene
and 1,2-dichloro - benzene. Principal component analysis (PCA) with the aid of varimax rotation, and parallel factor analysis
(PARAFAC) method were used to statistically verify the correlation between VOCs and the source of pollution. The multivariate
analysis pointed out that the maintenance of auxiliary pipelines in the distribution systems is vital as it can become significant

We analyzed metals (Mg, Al, Ca, V, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Ag, Cd, Cs, Ba, Pb and Bi), water-soluble ions (Na+, NH4+, K+, Ca2+, Cl?, NO3? and SO42?) and carbonaceous mass (EC and OC) in SPM aerosol samples using an ICP-MS, ion chromatograph and CHN corder, respectively. The SPM samples were collected from 1999 to 2005 at two locations (urban site A and industrial site B) of Yokohama, Japan with concentrations in mean and ranges of 34.2 and 19.7–50.3 μg m?3 and 22.9 and 12.7–35.1 μg m?3 for the respective location. Source apportionment of SPM aerosol was conducted appropriately for the first time to these locations employing PCA-APCS technique. Major sources of SPM at site A were a) crustal source, b) urban origin, c) undefined, and d) mineral rock. At site B, the sources were predicted as a) urban origin, b) undefined, c) crustal source, and d) secondarily formed aerosol. The tracers and nature of the source related to urban origin at both sites were similar but retaining different source strength. Secondarily formed aerosol was quite unique at site B. This paper examined the factors that might influence participating farmers’ willingness-to-pay for the Tree Farming Fund (TFF)
established for sustainable development of participatory forest management (PFM). Information on willingness-to-pay, socioeconomic
characteristics, and attitudes of participating farmers toward TFF were obtained from interviews with 581 participating farmers.
Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the dominant factors that might influence participating farmers’ willingness-to-pay
for the TFF. The results showed that participating farmers’ willingness-to-pay was significantly affected by (i) family income;
(ii) education level; (iii) confidence that his aspired benefits will be received; (iv) agreement with the statement that
‘PFM is sustainable under the present state of management’; (v) agreement with the statement that ‘PFM is a good strategy
for forest conservation’; and (vi) knowledge of PFM strategies. Thus, participating farmers with a higher level of education,
higher income and positive attitudes toward TFF tended to express more willingness-to-pay. Establishment of TFF could be an
effective strategy in implementing sustainable PFM in Bangladesh. For this strategy to succeed, however, active partnership
between the participating farmers and Forest Department is required. Participating farmers’ attitudes toward TFF should therefore
be taken into consideration as should the results of this study, which are important indicators of participating farmers’

Methomyl, S-methyl (EZ)-N-(methylcarbamoyloxy)thioacetimidate, is a systemic insecticide chosen for the management of shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis G. Codex Alimentarious Commission has proposed a maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.2 mg kg???1 of methomyl, and there is a need to validate this value on eggplant. First + first-order model can explain the nonlinear dissipation pattern of methomyl conveniently in comparison to first-order kinetics. The preharvest intervals (PHI) of 27.3 and 35.3 days as obtained from first + first-order model for single and double doses would bring down the methomyl residue below MRL in actual practice. The respective half-lives were 6.6 and 7.8 days. On the other hand, first-order model suggests methomyl dissipated with a half-life value around 5 days and proposed PHIs of 6.57 and 8.57 days for single and double doses, which was far from reality. Hence, five different decontamination agents were chosen for the decontamination of methomyl from eggplant. Safety factors such as theoretical maximum daily intake and maximum permissible intake were used to evaluate risk assessment to human health. A 3-day waiting period for the both doses, following conventional agricultural practice and processing factor could not ensure sufficient margin of safety. Subjecting the data to a processing factor of 60% could not bring the residues below the proposed MRL by Codex. Methomyl is not found appropriate and effective for application in eggplant. Either the proposed MRL needs to be revised or good agricultural practice involving methomyl for plant protection in eggplant cultivation is questioned. 相似文献

This study investigated the corrosion characteristics of widely used automotive materials: copper (Cu), aluminum (Al) and stainless steel (SS) in Jatropha biodiesel. The corrosion rate of the materials was measured by the weight loss and changes in the surface morphology using immersion test in biodiesel. Before and after the immersion test, fuel samples were characterized by the change in chemical composition, viscosity, density, and water content. Experimental results revealed that Cu had the highest corrosion rate, while SS had the lowest. The main fatty acids observed in the tested biodiesel were oleic (44.6 wt %), linoelic (31.9 wt %), Palmitic (14.6 wt %), and Stearic (7.6 wt %). Apart from linoelic acid, the compositions of all other acids were increased after the immersion test of 1600 h. Also, the viscosity, density, and water content of the fuel samples were increased after the immersion test. Objective: The adaptive behavior of mobile phone–distracted drivers has been a topic of much discussion in the recent literature. Both simulator and naturalistic studies suggest that distracted drivers generally select lower driving speeds; however, speed adaptation is not observed among all drivers, and the mechanisms of speed selection are not well understood. The aim of this research was to apply a driver behavioral adaptation model to investigate the speed adaptation of mobile phone–distracted drivers.
Methods: The speed selection behavior of drivers was observed in 3 phone conditions including baseline (no conversation) and hands-free and handheld phone conversations in a high-fidelity driving simulator. Speed adaptation in each phone condition was modeled as a function of secondary task demand and self-reported personal/psychological characteristics with a system of seemingly unrelated equations (SURE) accounting for potential correlations due to repeated measures experiment design.
Results: Speed adaptation is similar between hands-free and handheld phone conditions, but the predictors of speed adaptation vary across the phone conditions. Though perceived workload of secondary task demand, self-efficacy, attitude toward safety, and driver demographics were significant predictors of speed adaptation in the handheld condition, drivers' familiarity with the hands-free interface, attitude toward safety, and sensation seeking were significant predictors in the hands-free condition. Drivers who reported more positive safety attitudes selected lower driving speeds while using phones.
Conclusion: This research confirmed that behavioral adaptation models are suitable for explaining speed adaptation of mobile phone distracted drivers, and future research could be focused on further theoretical refinement. 相似文献
Increasing deployment of cellular networks across the globe is pushing the energy consumption in cellular networks at an exceptional rate. The integration of renewable energy (RE) harvesting technology into future mobile networks has the potential to positively cope with environmental contamination and ensure self-energy sustainability as a means to decrease fossil fuel consumption. Diesel generator (DG) in conjunction with on-site RE harvester has emerged as an economic and extent efficient option where commercial grid supply is not viable. This paper is focused on the cost aware energy management framework addressing to least net present cost (NPC) for the envisioned hybrid powered green cellular base stations (BSs) considering tempo-spatial traffic dynamics. In such wireless networks, solar photovoltaic modules are considered as a primary energy source, while the DG and energy storage device are kept as the standby supply in case of inadequate solar energy to ensure zero outage. A comprehensive simulation-based investigation is carried out in the context of downlink Long-Term Evolution (LTE) cellular networks for evaluating cost-efficiency and reliability performance under a wide range of network settings. Particularly, this paper examines the energy yield, greenhouse gas emissions, and cost analysis based on the optimal architecture of Remote Radio Head-enabled LTE BS. Moreover, wireless network performance in terms of throughput, energy efficiency gain, and radio efficiency is thoroughly investigated using Monte Carlo simulations.
