In order to understand the bioaccumulation of 241Am and 134Cs in scallops living in sediments, the uptake and depuration kinetics of these two elements were investigated in the king scallop Pecten maximus exposed via seawater, food, or sediment under laboratory conditions. Generally, 241Am accumulation was higher and its retention was stronger than 134Cs. This was especially obvious when considering whole animals exposed through seawater with whole-body concentration factors (CF7d) of 62 vs. 1, absorption efficiencies (A0l) of 78 vs. 45 for seawater and biological half-lives (Tb½l) of 892 d vs. 22 d for 241Am and 134Cs, respectively. In contrast, following a single feeding with radiolabelled phytoplankton, the assimilation efficiency (AE) and Tb½l of 134Cs were higher than those of 241Am (AE: 28% vs. 20%; Tb½l: 14 d vs. 9 d). Among scallop tissues, the shells always contained the higher proportion of the total body burden of 241Am whatever the exposure pathway. In contrast, the whole soft parts presented the major fraction of whole-body burden of 134Cs, which was generally associated with muscular tissues. Plasma gasification is an innovative technology for transforming high calorific waste streams into a valuable synthesis gas and a vitrified slag by means of a thermal plasma. A test program has been set up to evaluate the feasibility of plasma gasification and the impact of this process on the environment. RDF (refuse derived fuel) from carpet and textile waste was selected as feed material for semi-pilot gasification tests. The aim of the tests was: (1) to evaluate the technical feasibility of making a stable synthesis gas; (2) to characterize the composition of this synthesis gas; (3) to define a suitable after-treatment configuration for purification of the syngas and (4) to characterize the stability of the slag, i.e., its resistance to leaching for use as a secondary building material. The tests illustrate that plasma gasification can result in a suitable syngas quality and a slag, characterized by an acceptable leachability. Based on the test results, a further scale-up of this technology will be prepared and validation tests run. 相似文献

X-ray lithography using synchrotron radiation has been applied in a multi-step process for the production of plastic moulds to be used in the fabrication of separation nozzles by electrodeposition. For characteristic dimensions of a few microns a total height of the nozzle structure of about 400 μm has been achieved. Structural details of about 0.1 μm are being reproduced across the total thickness of the polymer layer. The surface finish of metallic separation nozzles produced by electrodeposition was equivalent to the high quality of the polymer surface. The separation-nozzle systems fabricated by the described method allow an increase by a factor three of the gas pressure in separationnozzle plants as compared to the present standard. The photosystem II-herbicide diuron is widely used for weed control in Champagne's vineyards. Its important use and its relative persistence make it of particular interest for ecotoxicological studies. Toxicity of diuron was assessed on Lemna minor L., a representative aquatic macrophyte regularly used for toxicological studies. Toxicity assessments were based on inhibition of growth and total chlorophyll content of L. minor cultures after 7 days. Growth was inhibited and IC(50) and IC(90) were, respectively, 25 and 60 microg l(-1), but chlorophyll content of L. minor increased in response to the herbicide. When diuron was combined with copper, growth inhibition of L. minor depended on the concentrations of both chemicals. For some concentrations, combination of these chemicals resulted in a slight (but non-significant) antagonism. Additivity was observed for all other mixtures. When diuron was combined with folpet, growth and chlorophyll content of L. minor only depended on the concentration of the herbicide. Diuron was also found to prevent the copper-induced decrease of chlorophyll content when it was combined with this metal. A multifactorial model was found more appropriate to characterize interactions between pesticides than Abott's model. 相似文献

Oligomers of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) (P(3-HB)) were prepared by partial degradation of high molecular weight P(3-HB) dissolved
in 1,2-dichloroethane/water mixture in the presence of p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA). The water-soluble fraction of the
resulting oligomers was extracted from the mixture with neutral sodium phosphate buffer. Capillary zone electrophoresis showed
that the aqueous extracts were composed of two series of oligomers. The first one was composed of one to seven P(3-HB) oligomers
(O(3-HB)). In contrast, the second series was composed of four oligomers characterized by the presence of a terminal C=C bond
[O’(3-HB)]. Both series of oligomers behaved differently insofar as their fate in aqueous medium was concerned. The 0(3-HB)
compounds were stable over a period of 2 months. On the other hand, the population of the O’(3-HB) oligomers varied, the proportion

The purpose of this study was to examine the cumulative effects of exposure to a pathogenic bacteria and municipal effluent in the freshwater mussel Elliptio complanata. Mussels were exposed to increasing concentrations of an ozone-treated effluent at 15°C for 7 days. A sub-group of mussels was inoculated with Vibrio anguillarum and exposed to the same conditions as above.After the exposure period, mussels were collected to assess hemocyte count and viability,immunocompetence(phagocytosis and nitrite production), oxidative stress/inflammation(cyclooxygenase and lipid peroxidation) and oxygen radical/xenobiotic scavenging activity(metallothioniens, glutathione S-transferase). The results showed that mussels exposed to municipal effluent had increased hemocyte counts, phagocytosis, nitrites, lipid peroxidation and metallothioneins. In the inoculated mussels, the same responses were observed, in addition to cyclooxygenase and glutathione S-transferase activities. Multivariate analyses revealed that(1)the response pattern changed with effluent concentration, where increased responses observed at low effluent concentrations(10%, V/V) were attenuated at higher effluent concentrations,(2)the effluent produced more pronounced changes in lipid peroxidation, metallothionein and hemocyte viability, and(3) the simultaneous presence of V. anguillarum led to more important changes in hemocyte count and viability and nitrite levels. In conclusion, the presence of V.anguillarum could alter the response of mussels to municipal effluent, which could lead to increased inflammation in mussels. 相似文献
